Launchpad update, new fx IAPS!
They've added a gate and delay fx which sounds cool but you have to buy each fx IAP to unlock full controls and track routing.
Comments
The delay and gate are free you just unlock extra presets and full fx controls. What do people think of the pricing, fair?
Its basically $20 for Audio Import and all the full FX controls. The pricing seems to be about standard for iOS apps. I am glad that they have not abandoned the app. It still has a lot of potential. My kids enjoy playing with it.
I think I still have issues with the concept of IAP sometimes. I completely understand most of the reasons behind it but if they bundled all the FX and Audio import for a lower price I might pull the trigger. Call it the "Pro" upgrade.
It would be a no brainer purchase for me if it allowed for direct recording into each of the pads instead of using just audio import.
Of course we basically have that with Loopy, Audiobus, and Turnado.
I was thinking that they should just add a bundle for the fx rather than making it 3 purchases but yeah a pro upgrade would make sense.
In the app store it says they're listening and one of the reviews requests extra fx as IAPs so i will contact them about the follow actions knewspeak wanted and live input. I'd also like to be able to categorise my imported loops by genre etc.
Wonder if it will work with the Launchpad Pro...
Oh yeah at seperate apps tis true but i like the layout of LP, it's great for performing and doesn't require much setting up and you can easily record your performances so the new fx should add an extra dimension.
I don't have a problem IAP's, considering the low prices we pay for apps. Since I believe that devs would like to (and should be able to) make more from their work. IAP's don't seem to be expensive at all, considering that I paid $1500 for my Roland XP-50 almost 20 years ago - imagine what that price would be in today's economy! I haven't come anywhere near that price with all the apps & IAP's I've bought and will buy. And taking into consideration that one can potentially attain their musical goals, it seems quite fair.
iOS prices don't bother me at all, as I've spent the last three years mulling over desktop VSTs in the $200 range. Always feels like a bargain on iOS.
I like the FX and hey, you can use the stock ones for free. Only when you want more presets or edit capabilities you Need the IAP.
The Audio Import though is a no brainer. Absolutely love transferring my Loopy Sessions to this
@Brain I won't lie, the app prices was a big incentive for buying the iPad.
@rhcball both platforms have their pros and cons but i think iOS has the edge on creative apps.
@0_imseng oh yeah i was just thinking how it starts to add up when you buy packs, no problem as long as the fx are decent and they do sound good from a brief play. Also transferring Loopy Sessions is a great idea, i was recording into AudioShare but it's a bit cumbersome and can do some pre fx processing before transferring the loops.
Cheers!
where's the follow actions ?
Tempting...

Very Tempting.
Just download it and looks cool, i need money in my itunes account
Soon to follow. :P
Seriously i will email them.
Aren't these the effects that are already on the phone (or they are at least on mine....)
@musikmachine Yep! Let's not get too jaded about this technological revolution that we are in the midst of! I don't... I love this!
Well I succumbed, I think they cost £10 in total. Worth it though - great fun to be had. Transforms the app into something more (potentially) useful than just good fun though.
Naturally, these FX are particularly immediate with a Launchpad Mini and a Launchcontrol. Still not sure about the sample import thing - is it just from Audiocopy (I don't want to do the dropbox thing) ?
I've got a lot of time for Launchpad, it's simple and fun. I went for the IAPs yesterday and they do add some nice touches. I didn't realise before I hit 'spend' that you had access to the basic presets anyway so I can't really judge if the ability to edit is good value when you add it up accross the four fx.
On a related point, does anyone know why some of the pads have a dotted or broken line representing their trigger type. Eg. A pad can be set to loop in sync, but some of the preset sound packs have the circle in the pad showing as dotted. Same for some of the lines representing one shot or trigger ?!?
You already had the gater and delay?! Must be some super secret JGY edition.
About the dotted or broken lines... I am guessing that if you hit another pad in the same column, it won't wait till the full loop is finished before switching to the new loop. It will break at the next beat (dashed line). I might be wrong.
@Brain fo' sho!
Do Novations controllers map automatically then? I was under the impression this only worked with the Launchpad S.
It's AudioShare/AudioCopy, not sure which other apps you can open in from.
That could be it. I'll play around later and see what I can work out. I still can't seem to find any way to select between solid or broken.

would love to know this too
@xen The fx are a lot of fun but you only get a handful of presets and not the track routing which looks like it opens things up for performing.

I did used to have friends in high places, but then all we did was smoke back in those days. BUT, yeah, odd, my phone Nov has all kinds of lovely stuff on it. I hardly ever use the phone for music, but I love the slick Nov effects interface, to the point that while I like the IAPs on the iPad, I don't think they're a match (design-wise) for the phone.
On another matter: Anyone figured out if you can save your own presets with the effects? Annoying if not....
@musikmachine,
Yes the mini and the Launchcontrol are automatically mapped and yes thanks, I noted that it's Audioshare for import as well (which is much more preferable !)
Not sure if this is old news or not but is the audio import possible for iPhone now? I remember that was a problem a few weeks back where it was only available for iPad, not Iphone?
Also, if I load in two samples, are they automatically beat synced/time stretched?
Thanks in advance
A friend with weed is a friend indeed.
I was wondering about presets as well, assumed you can but it's not clear. Be kinda weird if you couldn't!
Then I must presume it's kinda weird, because I can't see how. Please, someone, anyone, prove yet again I'm just missing the long press or the two finger tap....
Hey all, just wanted to bump this thread if anybody else actively uses this app. The Novation forum sucks big time (Audiobus you guys are geniuses, not just the app but your forum)
Anyways, I've just started using this app by taking samples from other ios apps such as djay.
What's confusing me is when I copy and paste the sample into Launchpad, it gives me the option to enter BPM and beat info and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to type. It seems to detect the BPM accurately (great job Novation!) but depending on how many beats I specify, it changes the BPM so am not sure what to type in to ensure it's cohesive with the other samples I want to stick in. What's also interesting is one sample might have a dotted circle whereas the other cirlce is a solid circle.
My final question is how are you guys usually chopping up your samples and getting them in? My workflow seems too tedious so was curious if any of you have any power user tips.
Are you using a laptop or purely ios? If purely ios, i'm either slicing the sample up in audioshare, copying and pasting that into launchpad. Or is using dropbox more efficient?
Any feedback and opinions greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
(oh and if any of you were curious, Audio Import is still only available for iPad, NOT iPhone as of March 10 2015)
