  • i paid for the import IAP but reach the same level of tediousness & never finish building a set. but i just input the bpm & it seemed to work, i would think it can derive the number of beats just based on that.

  • FWIW (and much as AS is a central pillar in my own iOS music efforts) I use Twisted Wave to cut/clean up/fiddle.

As for the beats/bpm; they adjust to reflect each other. I find knowing the bpm -usually- to be the best way.

Lots of fun with this thing. Especially working with Beathawk/Samplr as well.

Thanks Dave! Yeah, I figured using a laptop and Dropbox was the fastest way when dealing with a bunch of files. I was hoping to try to keep it all on my iphone/ipad since i might not have a laptop for awhile.

As a backup, I've tried utilizing Loopy to capture ideas from other apps, then would load those into Launchpad.

    Have you tried Audioshare?

  • My question is effectively the same as @gjcyrus, any thoughts on how to edit / loop samples prior to importing them into Launchpad ?
Say, I've done some things in figure and I want to slice up / add markers to the recorded output, so I can trigger different start points in Launchpad (saving them as separate files). Or is this just too much bother and I should just look at doing this in Gadget (or in another way) ?

  • It looks like they have updated to support AirDrop import, which from my experience works some of the time, sorta.

As far as slicing up, I guess it depends on if you want a strictly iOS solution or if you have a MAC/PC. TwistedWave for iOS works really well, easily exports to dropbox.

I really like the idea of using loopy. You could record your loops to see what sounds good together, remember the BPM, export all the individual loops to dropbox then import them back into Launchpad, Maybe use audiocopy. Someone should do a tutorial video, maybe I will make that be my first tutorial video, if I ever have time.

My question is, is there a way to use my Quneo to trigger the clips in launchpad?

  • Oh and I really hope that Loopy Masterpiece Edition makes launchpad look silly. If he could create a template to simulate the launchpad app, that would be a game changer. Being able to record the parts directly onto the pads then remix it applying Flux:FX and Turnado effects.

  • if loopy masterpiece has follow actions in it, it will definitely make the launchpad app look silly !

  • I've pointed Novation to this thread via Twitter so will see what they say, hopefully they'll weigh in. It's the nearest thing to Live i've come across on iOS and it feels a bit restricted in it's current incarnation.

  • @gmslayton, thanks for the suggestion, but I think Audioshare may do what I'm after, as it allows you trim a loop relative to it's tempo :)

  • Hey guys, yeah audioshare is my go to file manager/editor for almost everything but the reason I was using loopy was to keep the creative flow going. At least for me, the way my brain works is by having to stop and edit a waveform, puts me in a different mental state that is NOT conducive to creativity so want to remain in that realm as long as possible. I completely forgot about loopy masterpiece, when is it supposed to come out again? One of my first and favorite apps, looptastic, unfortunately stopped development so hopefully loopy masterpiece takes over where they left off.

  • not sure when it's coming out but the dev post update vids on the progress often, I like the direction he's going so far, he seems far more open minded than when he first put out loopy. the masterpiece is going to be a must have imho.

all audioshare needs is an sample slicer in it and it will be even more of the best audio utility in iOS

  • I gave Novation a nudge and got this reply:

@musikmachine thanks 4 the link to the forum! We've certainly taken it all onboard and we'd those features ourselves too. Thanks again.

@JohnnyGoodyear are presets saveable or does it just save your settings with the track?

  • edited March 2015

@musikmachine I'm not able to save presets individually per se, BUT you can open the kit (sixteen pads) from any past project WITHOUT opening the project and the samples therein are just as you last left them (as regards individual settings/effects etc). Hope that helps/answers.

  • Oops forgot to reply! I guess with the performance aspect having the fx settings saved as part of the song makes sense.

    How do you do that?

I've noticed that the fx settings are stored with the project and when you reload the project the fx are recalled, but I can't work out how you just reload the fx pads without the project..does this mean you have found a way of transferring fx settings from project to project?

  • @xen

Hmmm. Might be on different pages here, but if I make a project, adding different samples/whatever on different pads and add, say, reverb on one particular pad and then save, exit, go to 'Load project' and choose the one I was working on BUT choose to load the 'Kit Only' the reverb, for example, remains as I set it previously.

  • @JohnnyGoodyear

We can't be talking about the same thing, and I think it's me.

Your talk of reverb means we must be talking about different apps, as there isn't any reverb in the Launhpad fx.

To open a project in Launchpad I can only select it and open, I don't have any other options. I've never seen a load kit option.

No. Mea stipidity culpa. I was getting my Launchpads and my Beathawks in a muddle. A thousand apologies effendi.

@JohnnyGoodyear Ahh..right, yes. I know what you mean about loading kits now, that makes sense.

Add MIDI clock out...be great to sync the arps on other synths

Btw, I've noticed that Launchpad app shows up as a MIDI destination in Cubasis, but I can't seem to get it do anything with MIDI notes...anyone got any ideas?

Been a while since I've used 'Live' , what would be the functionality of these 'follow actions' ?

    Thanks

  • it would turn the launchpad into a monome mLr styled beat machine, of course I would love for them to add the ability to sample whatever your playing, create seamless loops that you can fly in immediately too, but the follow actions would at least make it more musical. and it would also be very nice if they allowed your performance to be recorded and even give us an undo and overdub so that we could re edit a performance if we wanted.

    +1

    That would be cool.

Yeah, the follow actions in Ableton are pretty deep, enough so that you can pretty much sequence entire songs in clip view with them.

For instance, you can have it set where a one-bar drum clip repeats for seven bars before a one-bar fill is automatically triggered...rinse and repeat. You can get more granular too, like jumping between clips every 16th note.

It gets even more interesting when you use legato mode, where follow actions could dictate that jumps to and fro clips happen in the middle of those clips, rather than re-triggering clips from the beginning...i.e. a clip plays for a beat then jumps to another clip, starting at the second beat. This has an effect like rearranging slices of a loop, except it's involving slices from multiple loops (or midi clips).

It also has random follow actions, which is like what we can get in Sector, but, again, it's between multiple audio or midi clips.

About the dotted or broken lines... I am guessing that if you hit another pad in the same column, it won't wait till the full loop is finished before switching to the new loop. It will break at the next beat (dashed line). I might be wrong.

Finally worked this one out. If the loop is 16 beats long, the circle on the pad is solid, ie full. If the loop is less than 16 beats long, circle shows a dotted or broken line. The number of segments simply represent the number of beats in the loop.

  • Just updated, allows saving of user presets and groupings of them too. Also adds 'long' sweep time to autofilters :)
