Cubasis and IAP
I have just posted this to the Cubasis forum.
I doubt it will see the light of day.
Let's see.
"Hi kanego,
As stated already in your similar topic:
Unfortunately there is no option to hide the toolbar at this moment.
Best,
Lars"
Really ?
In what universe is that acceptable ?
Lars.
Try that trick in Cubase v7 and see what happens !!!
There would be UPROAR, and rightly so.
Essentially, Steinberg has removed previously available (and necessary) functionality in exchange for ramming a purchasing option into our faces !!!
So the question is this, why is Steinberg treating Cubasis users differently to Cubase users ?
Have we been dropped into a hitherto unknown ghetto ?
Does Steinberg take Cubasis users as being 'less' professional than Cubase users ?
Thank you for the opportunity to post these questions.
Threlly.

I think it's fair enough to assume that Cubasis users are less professional than Cubase users. In the same way that Cubase LE or AI versions of Cubase can be assumed to be less professional than users who need the advanced features of the full version and are prepared to pay for it.
It is also fair enough that they want to make money. But while creating music I don't want that reminder in the corner. I would appreciate a more subtle way of marketing.
I also find the cart unacceptable. I purchased FX pack 1. I'm not interested in FX pack 2 at present. I am continuously being told about it instead of being able to toggle the toolbar. We know you folks from Steinberg listen here. Please - fix this. Find another way to sell us good things. :-)
+1 one for the tools button!
I guess our friends at Steinberg are going to have to look at the sales spreadsheet and decide if any extra bump they can ascribe to their little box is worth the bad taste...
hoepfully it is just temporarily while the new toys are new. like gadget, first they made it super visible that you can buy more stuff, then they changed it.
It would make sense here as well, a shopping cart button for a few weeks, then back to normal
I really don't have a problem with a shopping cart button if it wouldn't cripple other, useful functions.
Nope.
I'm in a working band, have been a Cubase (and Cubasis) user since day one, in fact before it was even called Cubase.
I'm currently running v7, even after the horrendous history and garbage updates over the last few years.
I use both, Cubasis with the 18i20 is perfect for small projects as the artists can take it away on their own ipad and work from wherever, in fact it's sort of become the 'goto' device before the main machines.
However removing valid and working functionality to shill rather lacklustre IAP's at me is NOT on.
The effects that are bundled free with Auria (and pro) will give them a good run for their money, so I see this as a simple step by Steinberg to turn the app into a revenue creator ABOVE it's role as a creative app.
Auria Pro is looking better every day....
Ha! Cheers, that was really bugging me - I knew there used to be a button there before the cart but couldn't think what it was!
@thelongrays Clear and pointed. Well done.
There is a business theory (not exactly propulsive science) based on the notion of getting folks to spend as much on bits and pieces that go with a product to tie-in the customer commercially and psychologically and thus make them less likely to move to a similar competitive product. I don't believe this applies to a large proportion of their peripheral base.
i think Cubasis needs to keep the show on the road somehow especially with Auria Pro hot on its heels....
i dont miss the tool bar button as i always left it open...
..if it pays for further refinement then thats great news....
Exactly what hasn't happened.
They already have your money, and in spades too.
They love it so much, they're going to milk the dev cycle.
In as such as they will invest minimum time to extract as much profit as possible.
That's why, when there are SO many bugs still apparent, they are smashing IAP's in your face with no choice to look away.
Does it still have bugs, well documented ones, that have not been addressed ? - yes.
Can you turn off the notification icon for the IAP's ? - no.
Could you previously turn off that toolbar to gain workspace ? - yes.
Are the IAP's profit motivated ? - yes.
Will you see (at least) the standard effects improved to say, the equivalent of Auria Pro ? - seems unlikely now.
Have Steinberg stated they will address these issues in ANY meaningful way ? - no.
All fair points raised (is it me or does the quote thingy not work properly?)
I think they may have had some budget restrictions at Steinberg and the best option to expedite further app development resources was to create an IAP model (as all the other decent (imho) music apps I own have ie:Gadget/Auria/Audiobus/Sampletank/Alchemy etc)...
...that's my theory anyhow (fwiw)
Well, I've asked the questions on the official forum and have been met with a mixture of complete ignorance or slightly snotty requests NOT to ask questions.
Auria Pro it is then.
A favourite is 'its already on our feature request list'
...I can't wait for Auria Pro tbh....I don't use Auria much if at all because of the lack of midi and I paid for the upgrade and most of the plugins so I intend to get some value out of them when the midi update drops...
Hi all,
Thanks for your messages.
Since the initial release of Cubasis we have learned from several user studies and user reports that there are very few useful cases to hide Cubasis’ sub tool bar, because it contains the most important tools required for many operations. Therefore it has been in long discussion to replace the button with something else quite a while.
While I understand the lack of understanding about our choice to replace it with the shop button, it is not planned to change this with the next update.
With 64-bit, new features and user-requested maintenance fixes the scope is more than fully packed already and will take some time until being ready to be released.
Nevertheless the topic has been included to our tracking system and will be discussed with the team.
Regarding the discussion about IAP in general, I’ve posted my comment in the corresponding topic a few weeks ago (see page 4):
http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/7739/cubasis-update-to-v1-9-with-fx-iap-out-now/p4
Last but not least, we never have seen Cubasis users less professional than Cubase users and I can’t see any reason why we ever should do that.
Hope that helps.
Thanks,
Lars
Appreciate that you are checking in on us Lars @LFS - we know you're here listening and we appreciate it :-)
Please do however communicate that the shop button really isn't a welcome change for many of us. :-)
Lars.
Would you do this to Cubase 7/8 users ?
We both know the answer, not a chance.
The screen space on the ipad is limited, hence the total need to reclaim it where necessary.
So, for Cubase 8, make the main toolbar fixed and unmoveable, then add a radio button with the app nag flag on it.
Do not provide an option to change/move or turn it off.
See what happens.
So again, if you wouldn't DARE do it to Cubase users, why can you do it to us ?
why not to put 2 buy buttons?
fx1 buy, fx2 buy . It will be more attractive!
@Kaikoo I was going to just put 'So the answer's No.' but I think your response is funnier (and more good humored .
How about an audio flag inserted into the main output every 30 seconds that shouts 'BUY' at you.
Ha,ha! Audio Carousel ?
It feels like these little numbers in red circles cause stress alert to my iOS brain. "There is something you have to do!" is the message. No! Nothing but music! So that's not what I expect from my creative tool to tell me. Cubasis is a great app but the shop button really triggers me... And I fear I will end up buying them
Is this only happening on ios8?
I also don't like the button at all. I bought both fx and I'm still looking at it. When auria pro comes I certainly will check it out. If it delivers I will drop cubasis probably.
Steinberg: make IAP's available through one of the menu's!
Why all the hate for a spot of advertising. At least Steinberg aren't making us buy a whole new app to get midi!
Dat true!
Are you referring to auria as making you but a whole new app? Auria pro will be an upgrade inside auria if you already own it, or can be purchased as a separate app.
