Questions about Thesys

Hi. Thesys is on sale for $4.99. I have Sugar Bytes Turnado which is excellent. I was wondering how well does Thesys work for sequencing. Also if Thesys playing multiple apps how do I route the audio from all of the apps into Cubasis or Auria? Can you route each app to its' own audio track? Thanks!

  • Took me a few minutes of research to come to the conclusion that you might be asking about "Thesys" by Sugar Bytes. Now the obviousness makes me laugh...why didn't my brain get that immediately?

For 5 dollars, just get it. It's great. Does a lot of cool things. We'll talk more after...

  • lol Yes you are right. I got the name wrong. I edited the name. :-)

  • I wonder if it is better to get Thesys or StepPolyArp. Or are they completely different.
I assume Thesys might do more but the interface is sooo tiny.

  • Thesys is a brilliant arpeggiator with lots of unique features, but it only outputs to one MIDI channel, so to have multiple apps listening to that output, set them all to the same MIDI channel. From there, you can use Audiobus to route the audio output

My favorite feature of Thesys is the ability to change the key and scale of a sequence with MIDI CC.

If you are interested in an arpeggiator that outputs to multiple channels, look into StepPolyArp. Both apps are great, for different reasons...

  • thanks @Zetagy
that is very usefull information. maybe I end up getting both

  • Thesys can do beautiful things and has a lot of features but it's like putting these little ships inside of a bootle. SB apps are all great but Thesys is giving me a hard time. Would love to use it more often.

  • @Peanutcram - The ship in a bottle analogy is great. I really like the app, but with a Mini it can get quite painful!

  • Just wait till Consequence gets iOS, I keep meaning to do a VST demo of it. All the SB stuff is great, and they'll tell you that the best thing is just to have fun, even if you don't use Thesys, Egoist, Wow, Effectrix or Turnado for actually using in a track you can kill hours just playing with all the built in stuff, brilliant

  • And hopefully Cyclop will get iOS too, that's a super bass synth

Do you mean to say it is coming to iOS for sure? great news if so-!

  • No I don't know for sure, but it's not unlikely that they will port their other products over sooner or later

    Precisely!

  • Would Love to see Guitarist ported over here!

We may have to petition Sugar Bytes to sort out their UI's for all their iOS converts.

  • Double tap on it to zoom in. Helps.

what about Looperator!? waiting for that one...

By the way, Thesys is amazing and especially for that price I wouldn't hesitate a second.

  • edited April 2015

Yeah the double tapping feature does help!

    Thesys going cheap cheap! Hehe

Looperator also very nice for remixing, glitch and other..

  • I'm almost ready buy. One last question. Does it have step sequencing or do all the parts have to be played live?

  • Thesys is a MIDI Stepsequencer!.. :-)

  • Yep, but the difference with other ones, it has their own sounds.

  • edited April 2015

Yep! Just to make it clear, Thesys has its own built-in sounds! Or U could use IAA,s or other... :-)

  • Thanks! That's cool it has step sequencing and built in sounds. I'm adding Thesys to my collection. :-)

  • I'm digging Thesys so far. :) One question I have is if Thesys has multiple tracks. What I mean is can you have 2 or more melodies playing at the same time with different instruments.

  • It only outputs one midi channel, but there are many features for expression and chord creation in the lowers section. Not two melodies at once tho...

    Thanks Zetagy.

King777 posted a link to a Soundtestroom video in another thread that I found useful.

I turned off Thesys synth. Then using Audiobus, I routed Thesys MIDI to iSem, then iSem audio to Effectrix. I spent half an hour just trying different presets in the apps. Very powerful indeed.

  • All you young people showing off with your big and powerful eyes...

LOL I didn't get what you meant until I bought it...interesting sequencer...

BTW, in the video ^^^you don't have to have the notes jump in Effectrix, just change MIDI channel so it does not get notes in, just sync...

  • Noob question - but how do I record from Thesys? I manage to get a decent sequence going, playing into Magellan or similar, but IAA, Audiobus and Auria won't pick up Magellan when I try and record.

  • Ok I sussed it out, you have to load Thesys into AB as well. Didn't have to do that with Arpeggionome on the old iPad so threw me for a bit there.

here's a thesys question - how can I just run my hardware synth through it and hear the output? Do I NEED to have it running into something like Auria in order to hear sound? I'd do audioshare, but that doesn't seem to have background audio...

EDIT - ignore! my interface has some fancy bloody app called DSPMIXFX that was apparently muted...
