Limited sounds notwithstanding, Beatwave is an exceptional app from a teaching point of view. In two sessions both my boys (8 and 11) learned a lot about the mechanics of music (root notes, scales, arpeggios, beat, rhythm) but much more interesting was their obvious enjoyment at being able to create music that didn't sound bogus. It was fun to watch them discover possibilities, to come up with ideas and then to realize them.
Bravo to the developers. Please, please fix the broken song mode thingy on iPad.
