Thanks i should be ok once i get the cables to hook my preamp up, will post an update when i've tried things out.
did you need a powered amp or can you plug this thing just in?
You would need some kind of 1/4 inch guitar interface, like iRig. I have used iRig; but I prefer to use my Griffen StudioConnect. It has a 1/4 inch input. I place the suction cup of the device onto the flat side of a metal bowl. It works perfectly. Once the threshold in Impaktor is set, I can pump it thru speakers. So, ambient noise won't interfere with triggering the device.
That's a great idea. I see those tuning mics on ebay all the time for very cheap. I think they are usually clip on types too.
Yep, works great! The pre is a Desktop Konnekt 6 and i had to engage the 12db boost to get it to pickup a decent level and have the mic gain all the way up so may be worth bearing in mind. Stuck the pickup to my bongos and overdubbed a few sounds, really nice!
Just announced, via iPad Musician's Group:

iOS 8 only ...
Looks good, will keep an eye out for that. Was looking for a mic i could use for field recordings etc. At least this won't need a pre, wonder what the price will be.
I first tried a Yamaha e-drum pad through an iRig. Worked great, pleasantly surprised at how well it picked up finger sensitivity. But unless mounted on a stand it was a little awkward to use. So I took an old tobacco tin and fitted a piezo. Works like a charm (see photo). Also, since I often use a cajon (box drum) I put a strap on it that I can slide the tin into, thus allowing me to trigger Impaktor via the box. Awesome!
