Dear Audiobus Forum,

what do you think about the expansion packs for Animoog?
How you use it?
Open these ones a new sky?

Thank you for an answer.

All those packs add timbres to your library so that makes it more valuable than if you just bought someone else's sound desings. Most of the packs are from moog and you know they got a lot of quality and exclusive sources for those waveforms in their laboratory.

  • To be honest, I've not purchased a single expansion pack due to lack of previews of what kind of noises they make.
Now if Moog did a sale on the IAPs could consider getting at least a few of them.

  • They let the cat out of the bag with this latest update, if you catch my drift.

  • Still a bummer that the iPad and iPhone apps are different so you are expected to purchase them for each device.
There's a workaround of course, but still..

  • Yeah, but still need to find a 'source' for all the downloads...

  • I like them, especially the Minimoog, Monster Moog, Vintage Synth and Vintage FX ones. The Minimoog pack is the best in my opinion, things get really expressive there.

    Dear All,

    thank you for your Feedback.

    Really interesting what you think.
I must agree the lack preview is for me in the moment a no go.
But i will wait what the future will offer.

    Not really.

  • They are worth getting. I have the acoustic, minimoog and monster moog packs so far. There are previews on Soundcloud if you do a search.

I'm not suggesting going in that direction at all.
Only that, to me, there is nothing immoral about using something you've already paid for once on another device.

  • @Zymos I know, there was at one point a bug in the iPhone version where a restore downloaded everything...

And I fully agree, that if the download was purchased on one device and is compatible with the app on the other device there should be no issues in transferring the files, guess that's one of the reasons Moog decided to move the content to a place from where it is relatively easy to transfer the files to and from.

  • Yeah, it's not like they really pushed the issue and claimed people HAD to pay twice, they just explained the practical reason why we couldn't share them between the versions of the app.
Though I reserve the right to be annoyed that the didn't make it universal in the first place!

  • What do moog say about this?

  • I am very glad I picked up several expansions. I use the Grateful Dead packs, monster moog, mini moog and vintage effects packs quite a lot and they add so much more in the way of making your own stuff from available timbres! Money well spent which is not always the case with IAP's but for this highly recommended.

  • compared to all of the apps that I've wasted money on, the animoog iaps are all worth buying

  • I can understand pricing of the sound packs but i do not get the 'reasoning' behind charging for midi-out!?!?

  • @Waldemar said:

Yes really. They gave people access to paid content, with no apparent validation mechanism within the app itself.

I believe Moog has some playlists of the IAPs on their soundcloud.

I bought all packs except the Richard Divine and they are worth it if you enjoy Animoog.
    Here's a recording of the VintageFX/Synths:

  • @R_2 Good resource!

  • I have most of them - I love Animoog - but feel I don't use it enough. (GADGET NEEDS LONGER SAMPLE IMPORT LENGTHS!)

However, have just been playing with the 4 Track recorder which is very useful for, entirely internally to Animoog, recording samples of different stuff and then audio-copying straight out to Gadget (or whatever). I never realised the 4 track recorder was so fully featured.

  • Innarestin' isn't it? I find Animoog, just like Alchemy, has a whole new purpose to me with the internal creation/move along into Gadget etc. Have even found Tin Pan very good in this area (at least for 'writing').

  • Hi @Samu

    see this...

@Kaikoo said: Is the timbres purchased universal? and easily restored to both iPhone and iPad? If not unversally available and why is that the case? I have already purchased the most part of iPad version, and I intend to buy iPhone version Animoog and do not like to repeating it all or something with PC connection. Thank you for your assistance!

    Moog reply:

I'm sorry, it's not, in-app purchases are tied to individual applications through the iTunes store and 'Animoog' is a different application from 'Animoog for iPhone'. So the restore purchases functionality is simply not available between the different applications.

    Take care,

  • What format do timbres need to be in to sideload into Animoog? I bought one of the last Freqboxes made before they were discontinued last month and I may as well put it to good use.

Not quite on topic, and perhaps old news to some people, but here is a massive collection of waveforms:

    http://www.adventurekid.se/akrt/waveforms/adventure-kid-waveforms/

I actually use these in Ableton Live, but Animoog is listed too.

    EDIT:

Kind of cool, and maybe useful, a visual guide to these waveforms:

First and foremost. This is my opinion.

Second, it depends on what type of music you do or what apps you currently dig and are using.

Personally, the packs are better than the presets upon purchase. Vintage and Fx are awesome. So are the individual designer packs.

The recorder is worth it as well. IF

IF IF IF IF IF you are into making your own patches and diddling with settings.

    AND

You have to be into the sound the engine of Animoog gives. It is very specific. Regardless of modulations, I find it to be in a box. I know people will disagree with me on this.

That being said, the app as a stand alone is great. As a sonic laboratory using the 4 track recorder and designing interesting and rhythmic soundscapes with heavy dark and metallic elements. If you are into Ministry or Filter, this is cool. If you are into techno- good deal. If you want a hard edge horn or wobble - good deal.

It is just limited for me when using in unison with all the other options available. I have tried to make this app grow on me. I just can't.

My patience and efforts needed for Animoog are spent navigating and developing on Nave. Which is a whole other story.

  • Hmm...

Maybe Moog could have a 'IAP Bundle' for like $20 and save a few bucks compared to buying them one by one?
