I always like to get everything if I get an app to really know what it is about.
Not knowing the cost when I first downloaded Animoog --- I think it ended up at like $60give or take.
Camel had an awesome all in 1 pack saving quite a bit of money.
Can anybody tell me please, how does Animoog's Minimoog expansion pack compare to their iOS Minimoog app? Having the vintage synth/fx/model D iap's, can I delete my Minimoog app to save space?
To my ears, these sound different and I'm not sure you can replace the Arturia's iMini (if this is what you are talking about) with this expansion pack. However, the Minimoog expansion pack is really really good, and you won't regret to have it. It's much better than the R.Devine or Monster pack...again this is my opinion.
They did a good job capturing the various oscillators, but there are some limitations that keep it from sounding and playing like a Model D.
The main issue is that the Animoog filter doesn't sound like a Mini filter. You can ALMOST get around this by using the "Filter Sweep" timbres and using the X-Y pad in lieu of an ADSR (e.g. left to right for a downward sweep). It's limited but I was impressed with how far I got -- they sampled numerous filter sweeps with varying resonance. They also sampled a bunch of PWM sounds and did some feedback patches as well, but you need to use the Animoog filter if you want realistic PWM. It sounds pretty good if you're willing to put in the time and look past the limitations.
But it takes a lot of tweaking to get pretty close. I don't think that the soundpack will comfortably replace your Mini app, unfortunately.
Hopefully this makes sense. I'm typing on my phone
Even though the Animoog timbres are sampled from classic synths, I think you can get a lot more mileage out of it by going nuts and coming up with non traditional sounds.

Agreeing with you, but since we're chastising Moog I didn't think any sort of plus was in order.
but the timbres are great for making your own patches. every animoog patch is derivative of timbres, so it's just more colors of paint.
I have bought the grateful dead pack, acoustic, and metallic. I think i like the metallic one the most.
bought all of them first day they were all avail. worth the coin. the grateful dead pack is the cats pants!
yes it's really good! I love how easy all the presets can transform into something completely different with a bit of knob tweaking
Thanks everybody for your feedback. Even though I won't be saving any extra space today, I'm glad to know the reason for it is worthwhile.
So I have a question. I have Animoog for iPhone and am aware that expansions I purchase are not compatible with the big Animoog. But I have been looking at the expansion packs on animoog.org and they do not specify which version of Animoog these expansions work with. Now my question is, are expansions other than the ones bought through IAP compatible with both Animoog versions, or are these all made for the big Animoog version?
@Samu Hi Sam, I have done at least three individual Expansion Pack demos for Animoog, just search exactly this in YT thesoundtestroom Animoog Expansion, I think I have done the Greatful Dead, Monster Moog and Richard Divine so far, but if you or anyone else want to hear another specific pack please let me know and I'll get one done
They work with both
All the patches will work on either version of Animoog, as long as you have the timbres installed.
This thread is super old!
I've got all the Animoog Packs already. Bought them in 2016 or something like that
Man, does that mean Moog can easily make IAP's cross-compatible as well? Ah, whatever, they are cheap enough for how much they seem to offer.
Still love ya, Moog.
You can buy them on one device and then copy the folders with the presets and timbres to your other device using iTunes on the desktop/laptop.
Think the reason they don't automatically become available for both versions of the app after purchase is due to a limitation with apple/the app store, rather than moog.
Dang! That's a hot tip for sure! Thank you @ghostwaves.
@Samu Ha, that’ll teach me to look more closely at the dates, I need a lie down
No worries, happens to me too sometimes
Sorry guys! I was trying to see if my question was already answered in the past and forgot I was looking at an old thread.
No problemo!
Now let's just hope Moog adds AUv3 support to Animoog and Filtatron
(There's like so many cool sounds in Animoog and being able to use many of them at the same time would keep me busy for a very long time).
Hmm, if that is the case, why does it work for other apps? For example Noise, buy them once and use them on both iPhone and iPad.
Maybe it got to do with the fact that Animoog for iPhone is a separate purchase for the initial app as well.
That's most likely the case, two different App ID's so there is no way to 'share' the purchases.
(Other than manuall copying the content between the apps).
One thing Moog could do here as 'goodwill' is to make Animoog 'universal' and upload the same binary to both 'App IDs' so those users who have done IAPs in either version can keep them.
This!
