IElectribe: Do you have it?

Do you have issues?

It locks up in Audiobus and sometimes squelches and screams out of no where.

It just runs into a ton of issues for me.

Do you have any suggestions?

IOS8/Air

Thanks

  • I have iElectribe and fiddle with it from time to time.

Most of the time I use it stand-alone, fiddle and then export the sounds & loops, either using AudioCopy or record to AudioShare (IAA-Generator).

It's been very stable on both my iPad Mini 1st Gen and now on Air 2 both running iOS8.3...

    Hmmm..

I find it to be the best quality of that type of beat making I have found.

What else do you see having that sound quality? (not DM1, not Elastic, not Funkbox)

The quality of drums on Imashine were great, just not my cup of tea for the space it takes up and no midi.

SeekBeats is in 'same category', takes a little time to get the grips on it's inner workings :)

As for drum-synthesis capabilities, we have Stroke Machine and the forthcoming Waldorf Attack.
Stroke Machine takes a lot of time to get used to, very 'crowded' UI.

So my hope lies in Waldorf Attack that should be here any day now...

  • Oh yeah!

With all the Alchemy, Synthmaster, and Gadget fanfare I totally forgot about ATTACK !!!

Good reminder. Gonna go grab a Itunes card in a little.

I will just wait on that. Thanks for the recommendation and the reminder.

I just wish things like Figure and Imaschine had MIDI capabilities. That would solve much for me.

  • I use iElectribe from time to time. I'll crank the effects and layer with a loop from Seekbeats, iMaschine or Figure(my 3 faves).
Depending on the piece, I might grab a kick and snare from SeekBeats and hats from Figure. iElectribe will be more to add depth and dimension to the rhythm part.

  • Impulse by the other day.

Incorrectly, I assumed it would work as smoothly as other Korg apps in Audiobus.

    A S S ume

Apart from an 8 update it feels like it's been a good couple of years since they threw anything at this app....

It's quite a nice app though. I think I prefer it to elastic drums which I want to like, but can't seem to get anything out of.

In its class I'd say it falls second only to Seek Beats which I absolutely love the sound of.

The stutter feature on iElectribe is nice. And you can get it render the stutter into the pattern which is cool.

The MidiIn is also very solid (much better and more extensive than Elastic Drums or SeekBeats). You can automate everything with ccs so you could point, say, ProMidi at it and use it as a great analogue drum module.

    It's pretty cool.

It seems to have a harsher sound than seek beats though.

  • For hard driving beats, I haven't heard anything better than this app.

It just breaks my heart that isn't doesn't always play nice in Audiobus.

Elastic is fun. Couple of my presets are on there.

It is limited in using it as a sole provider of a beat. I get you.

It is an amazing interface. Love to put my own sounds in it. Very few apps are that easy and usably deep on the Iphone.

  • I think you're right @Rustik. I need to give it a 3rd chance. Everyone else loves ED. We've just never quite clicked for some reason. I find the UI around the effects and stuff a bit confusing for some reason. I.e. What's being effected and what isn't. I need to read the manual again probably.

  • Audio export for me. On a side note I would like to use the Gorillaz version of iElectribe but the sounds are copyrighted. :(

    You are totally right.

There is some ambiguity regarding the global aspects as I tweak things. Sometimes it doesn't seem global.

All around though, it is fun for the treadmill to get a groove going. If I happen to stumble on a keeper...all the better.

Low and behold, I browsed my purchased and found something that I had never given a chance and fell in love this am.

    REBIRTH!

Damn, it is everything I was looking for.

  • same for me. Rebirth is one I have but have almost never used.

One afternoon some day I'll get it out.

I literally forgot I had it.

First app I got was Figure. 2nd - Thor. 3rd Rebirth.

At that moment in time it was not what I was looking for.

That is a different story now. Nice delightful surprise today.

  • @RustiK looked at Rebirth but only briefly, seemed to remember it being very squashed/busy and not well-ported looking. A case of the UI putting me off from the getgo. But you feel worth a look? What relative functionality grabbed your attention?

Quick and easy layering of beats and bassline when you need to put something together in a jiff just to try some chords out.

No doubt Rebirth can be made as complex a you make it.

    I am running out -
I will report back to you on this. Promise.

  • Thanks mate.

  • I will always recommend ReBirth because of how much great music has come from it. The producer EOD did almost all his old stuff exclusively in ReBirth and it's excellent.

As for iElectribe, I like it way more than I thought I would. After initially being impressed with Elastic Drums, I've cooled to it a bit (I share a lot of the opinions of @Matt_Fletcher_2000 I'm also not the biggest fan of ED's MIDI implementation). The automation options within iElectribe usually help me get something enjoyable out.

  • Appreciate the insight.

The upcoming finger beat is shit hot. Not sure of the release but it is possibly the drum box people are waiting for. More of an mpc type rather than beat synth.

  • edited June 2015

No, I don't have iElectribe - but thanks for asking! :-)

Summary: Imagine having 2 Funkboxes or IElectribes AND 2x 303s to use at one time on 1 app.
    Has some F/x as well.

Sequencer/Arranger is similar to the Magellan one. I do not have the knowledge YET to elaborate on arrangement and use. I do know it is pretty cool and easy to put alot of things together at once.

Yes, it is crowded. Honestly, not more than DrumJams or Funkbox as far as little buttons and such. There are some small fidgets. Nothing extraordinary though.

When I first bought it -- about a month after it came out, it was a bit overwhelming to look and fiddle with.
Now, years later I have a WHOLE new take on it. I am not a huge drum machine guy. However, I will be deleting IELectribe for REBIRTH. I don't use Funkbox. Never really did since I bought it. DM1 - the kits just bug me.

I think if you are into hard, deep, NY old school style house, techno, trance, D & B --- this is pound for pound an app that would be a handsome addition.

    This is just my opinion.

  • Many people swear by the stroke machine but unless your brain is matrix pluggable it has a brain damage potential for its visuals/UI

I had a seizure watching Doug use it.

    Got a link on this?

Any idea on Attack date yet?

  • Ironically when comparing iElectribe and the 'Tokyo' Gadget in Gadget they sound quite similar but the effects in iElectribe lift it up a notch or two, no wonder people wan't the iElectribe as a 'Gadget' in Gadget :)

  • Tokyo is ielectribe's anaemic half-brother
