Crystal Synth XT is on the bus!
Crystal XT is a full featured semi-modular synthesizer, ideally suited to creating lush evolving soundscapes. Crystal VST has long been a popular synthesizer on the desktop.

Desktop favorite for 10 years and one of the first I when I got the ipad.
It confuses me tho I am intrigued by it
Is it really monophonic? There's a review on the store that says so but I couldn't find any info in the description or the site.
I tried watching the video on http://www.greenoak.com/crystal/Crystal/Crystal.html to no avail. Blurring of the background while demoing a feature of the app... Don't do that!
Judging from this much better video, it is. http://www.greenoak.com/crystal/tutorial.html#tips
Definitely an interesting synth with an interesting in-app control surface. Trying... To... Resist...
It is monophonic. It eats cpu cycles like popcorn. Chomp chomp chomp. The update said that if you use Audiobus it is best to have iPad 3 or better.
Love the VSTi, have the iOS app, but never liked it. The playing surface is a non-starter AFAIC, and monophonic? Half the appeal of the VSTi is its pad patches.
I buy it now and it's really cool!
Yes, some nice sounds from this app. Good to capture through AB.
Am synth'd out..more in need of synth rehab, but anyone try this on an ipad2?
(Does say ipad3 or later,but I'm such a tart..can't say no)
When it comes to CPU the iPad 3 is identical to the iPad 2, so I'm guessing they recommend iPad 3 cos of the amount of RAM.
Does the 3 have more ram?
Edit
Sorry, just saw your point about the ram Chris.
A lot of the extra ram the 3 has over the 2 is taken by the retina display so its similar to the 2 at least that's what they say
JMSexton,thanks.
I am using an iPad 2. Crystal Synth XT has a cpu meter in it and I keep an eye on it. It is really weird; playing the same patch the cpu meter is all over the place. If it were a poly synth I could understand this; more notes = more cycles. But in mono-mode it makes no sense. It seems to randomly spike sometimes. I did a very quick test using Audiobus -> MTDAW! Just the one track and my iPad2 handled it all. I ran through a few different patches and it even did the changes without hiccups. But the jumping cpu meter makes me think that sometime it will fail. And I didn't try it with Auria yet.
I've had Crystal for a few weeks, so it was a bonus to see it on the bus. It is mono, but I love some of the sounds it produces. The ui was a bit odd at first, but it's pretty easy once you understand how it's laid out. This link might help those who are new to the app...

Thanks
I don't think it is monophonic--it has a poly mode in it, and if I run it from another app, I can get polyphonic sounds out of it. It seems to be limited in polyphony though, and the playing interface doesn't seem to respond well to multiple key presses. Sounds great, but strange on the whole polyphony thing.
I am finding this to be an out of this world synth for sounds aping and only rediscovered it after someone pointed it out in another thread on soundscapes. I did not realize until yesterday that it came with such a huge pallet of presets and the breed button is absolutely wild. This is so much deeper than I had first imagined!
hope they updated the graphics... amazing synth though.
It dawned on me this morning how the playing interface is set up like the Fibonacci spiral. Not sure about the old graphic but it is fine now, not sure if was the update or just preference at any rate no matter how it looks to the eye it certainly is highly capable at creating the most intriguing sounds I have heard in some time!
Does Crystal support audiobus ? Not the XT version but the other 0.99$ version ?
It says that it doesn't have audio copy paste but does it have Audiobus at least ? I did not find that in the description .
Crystal X T shows up in audiobus for me but the plain Crystal does not. Crystal sounds great but Crystal XT in audiobus through Flux FX sounds like something from another universe, amazing!
Yeah, you got me on the Crystal/Flux binge last night @Tritonman. It is a ride.....
I thought you might find it to be a useful combo Mr. Goodyear. Have fun!
No it doesn't. I was kind of disappointed with that and I didn't find a way to upgrade to XT
Here is info on Xt and a link.

I just fixed the link from the developer
Its exactly what I've been saying all along. This Synth is super amazing!!!
This along with Synthmaster is Synth heaven!
Also, the only thing I'm still having issues with is my presets keep getting overwritten. I tried everything the dev has suggested and still when I load a new bank all my user presets are gone. Sometimes they get saved in the backup bank but sometimes not.
@Musikman4Christ, I used to program XT many years ago, but I got really frustrated with it because as you say, it creates a backup, but deletes presets, gave up with it, sad because it's a beautiful synth.
Also forgot to mention the patch breeding is kind of crazy too, it only allowed a limited selection of presets you could use.
