To be justice: There's a few other nice apps out there like TB Midi Stuff...
But I like TB best...
For great justice.
I knew I shouldn't have looked at this topic, because it made me visit my 'purchased' section at the store. Over 75 music apps that I never/very rarely use. Some were free and some were only a buck or two, but several were not cheap. Dust gatherers that stand out are: iMS20, because it is really good, but I can't be bothered to figure out its unique way of working and also csSpectral because I spent a bit of coin on it and it seems like it should be good, but it is pretty much useless.
Good idea!

I'm not too bothered about the big buying glut of late last year, with few exceptions (like iVCS3 which I paid full price, and some others) most of them were special offer prices or even ludicrously low prices, and I just consider it as an education into finding out how I work best, and how I don’t. I now know the answer. I work best when I haven’t got a thousand music-making apps on my iPad to choose from.
Probably Sector for me, I've got the basic functionality down but haven't figured out how to be musical with it. Also Loopy HD which seems like it could be useful but I haven't found a good workflow to make songs with it nor put in much time on it.
On the plus side BeatMaker2 was gathering dust for ages but over the past few weeks I've finally wrapped my head around it and have been getting some good use out of it despite lots of frustration along the way. Still not super satisfied with it but it gets the job done and works on iPhone and iPad.
I really hope Korg make an IMS-20 Gadget, it's so needed. I'm pretty sure with IOS 9 that it will be possible, but whether they will or not is another matter. It's capable of good drum synthesis too so would fill another lacking feature in Gadget.
That would be awesome, and throw iPolysix in there as well...and one with a Mono/poly while they're at it!
Well, it's all very well feeling guilty about buying apps and not using it. I’ve got a real Korg Mono/Poly sitting up there in my attic, waiting for the day… (hope it still works). My excuse is that the old gear has far too low WAF.
@ErrkaPetti I had no idea what TB MIDI Stuff really was but I'm really Really glad you posted not only the text saying as much but the images too - Thanks!
Re: the topic at hand though: like others I was shook looking through my folders and realizing just how many apps I've neglected, rejected, or procrastinated out of consciousness. This also includes apps that I'm sure are Great but have yet to explore.
SunVox is maybe the best example: I have friends who've shown me things they've done with it (mind blown) but I've yet to dive in. It's (by far) not the most expensive app I own that's gathering dust but unlike many I've heard the proof of what SunVox can Do ....... hence my Favorite Dust Collector.
Good ideas. I still think it could do with a better internal keyboard like Magellan or Animoog has. The whole point of Gadget seems to be to work in the box, more features in that direction would be a plus.
I'd really like it to be multitimbral so I could use all the synths simultaneously in MTS, which is my preferred midi composing tool.
A few older apps for me would be reactable and donut, love the strange agency stuff, but just couldn't figure out donut. Newer apps, tnr-e, thesys, fm4, deregulator, vocalive and different drummer, although I want to sit down and really get to know a few apps I've mentioned, get distracted by the newness.
iMS20 and iVCS3 are my fave dusties. Love em, but never use em.
I've got the basic functionality down but haven't figured out how to be musical with it.
Very well put as to the core of the dusty problem etc.
Sunvox can indeed make extraordinary music but trackers are so damned outdated and awkward. If he made a step sequencer for it, many would actually use it...
Yes gadget is a self contained environment but Korg no doubt considered that external or virtual midi inputs would be used when considering keyboard size within the app.
I've got small fingers so I'm ok lol
True, but no reason not to use it before then as you can use it with midi sequencers now. Lots of fun.
I hope that the developer adds more midi inputs in the future to make it multi-timbral. I've made a request, perhaps others should do too
Yeah, but I want to use other apps only to export loops to gadget..
iMS20 and Garage Band for me. I don't like their user interfaces but I appreciate what they can do.
Must confess I have the real thing gathering dust as well! Really love that synth but the convenience and variety of iPad synths has caused me to slowly drift away from all my hardware. One day I'll reorganize and try to get everything integrated.
I've just realised my absolute no 1 dust gatherer, certainly in terms of price to use ratio.
It's Cubasis.
Cost a lot, used it for a few weeks then never went back. Currently uninstalled. Sad really.
Have you tried the update Matt? The new sampler sounds good.
