Are you a "CUTTER"? (Egoist, AbuDhabi, ASlicer)
So, there are AbuDhabi, Egoist, and Aslicer.
Any others similar apps in form and function?
Does anyone have Aslicer? Can you give us some details about it?

And yes - SamplR.
got it.

Yep... now and again...
I don't have Aslicer though.
I use Abu mostly.
Egotist, sector and samplr are all good too.
I also like moving the start point around on my samples in Gadget's Bilbao - which you can automate to create some pretty glitchy stuff.
@MrNezumi Not just another drop in the ocean.
Glitchbreaks cuts in a simple but profound way..
But I'm not a master cutter yet, would love to see an advanced video on Abu dhabi..
Yeah me too. Seems so simple but I get little out of it that is designed as I want it to be. I do get loads out of it by accident, but that's a different thing...
Nice.
I know what it is capable of doing, but it's getting the inspiration to do it lol, if u know what I mean
I always get distracted by Wolfsburg , Miami, Brussels , Kiev ..
I'd like to see videos by people who make underground electronica using these apps skilfully ...
I cut up samples pretty extensively in BM2. Does that count?
LOL @ the thread title. I love Egoist and Samplr. Egoist the most (MIDI implementation is wonderful).
One issue I have working with samples in Gadget is it's often difficult to mix them in properly. The sampling Gadgets have pretty limited features when it comes to merging the samples nicely into your mix. If you want to add a bit of delay, then then you've forgone your right to be able to EQ the samples at all. And often once they are in the mix I feel they need boosting (but the tube gain, again, uses up your only insert FX).
This is much less a problem wit the internal Gadget synths which always seem to sit pretty well together if you're sensible - but can be really tricky with sounds bought in. And it's quite a hassle, although possible, to reprocess the samples outside Gadget with some EQ or whatever and then bring them back in again.
I love Egoist too. Don't know what the hell I'm doing mostly, but love doing it (she said).
Right now I'm really into making drum loops in stand alone drum machines like Diode and Attack. I've run into the same problem you have with Abu Dhabi not mixing well with the other Gadgets.
I've given up Abu Dhabi and now when I want to use my drum loops with Egoist I export my Gadget tracks into Cubasis for mixing. Let's hope your poll has an effect on Korg!
Maybe it's not obvious, but you can re-sample Gadget back into Gadget, like bouncing tracks on an old 4 track tape recorder.
I pull my samples in half, sprinkle them with echo and vinegar, tie the resulting hairs into horse plaits, shout at them until they're a quivering wreck. Then save the whole soup in Audioshare.
Egoist is my fav
Problem is the massive amount of space it takes up
I routinely make / take samples from Samplr
then to Egoist for tweaking and arrangement (merging 2 samples into 1)
then to Gadget for final shake down on the mix
Sometimes hearing you guys swap process stories makes me feel like a chimp with a stick hitting on a rock while the astronauts fly over head discussing the frequency of things...
A have all three in my opinion ASlicer can hold it own against Egoist and AbuDhabi and ASlicer is also free. It allows you to sample any sound then it place a section of each sound on the pads then you can edit each pads Pitch, play rate, Delay length ,sample rate, bit rate, crush gain, cut off , resonance, adjust envelopes ,segment retriggering etc. You can also paste sound into it from audio share or sample from the microphone. Its interface is sort of weird but with a little exploring you can figure it out fairly fast. https://itunes.apple.com/app/id655616003?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=4
Whitch one is best at hacking your samples to pieces?
Thanks for this reminder, I bought this one and let it collect dust - turns out it's way cool.
They can all do that but I think ASlicer offers the most diverse sound shaping features. AbuDhabi is nice too but you have to deal with all the overhead of loading gadget.
@hacked_to_pieces Thanks. That's interesting. I should try ASlicer, I have the other 2.
Glitchbreaks doesn't have much for processing options but I love using it to chop and mix up breaks for dnb/jungle. Not sure if it's cool to post in this thread, don't want to be spammy. Would be interested in hearing what other "cutters" have been producing though, especially if anyone has harnessed Sector for an actual song and not just nifty f'ed up loops!
Egoist is the one I keep using: there's nothing like it for me in terms of really feeling like you have total control of what's happening. I recently sent in a feature-requests list but the original UI / functionality is already so smart and able .. for a Chopper it's just real, Real strong.
PS- it was quite late in the game that I realized the little top bar which allows zone-zooming and getting a macro view of slice marker positions in Egoist. This was icing on an already sealed deal cake for me.
You can sample anything into BM2 and chop it up assign it to pads as well or even auto chop and assign if your lazy.
I just had some early morning Egoist action due to this thread. It certainly is pretty nice for getting some sample driven grooves together.
Never really fitted my workflow... but I might try to make it fit in somehow.
The bass synth is pretty nice too.
