  • I haven't heard much, even Mac Rumours has been quiet. I was worried the Pro would arrive just after I bought my Air 2 but no sign of it yet.

  • I thought it had been a little quiet too, I wonder....

  • I saw a note yesterday on MaChat which said that because they're sensitive to the fact that someone n Wales recently bought an iPad2 they've put all further development on hold for now. Just FYI.

  • Hope it is the new Ipad RamPro with 16 gb of ram memory.

  • New ipads before next christmas.

  • oh man if they came out before the holidays that would be great, trouble shooting during the holidays not so great.
It's going to be so hard not to be an early adapter on this one

Brilliant. And who says Apple doesn't care?

  • Haha you make me laugh every day Johnny!

  • New iPad on sale before end of November. That's a safe bet.

2 GB ram? 12" iPad pro? Lots of other questions

  • I certainly hope that iPad Plus will have more than 2Gb ram but what do I know, Apple are masters at milking cash from us through gradual updates I.e. iPad mini 3.

To be completely honest I've done a full circle with screen size. I started 9.7 and though it was ideal. Then I got mini retina and got excited how small and discreet it looked in my rig. Now I'm back on the 9.7 wagon coz everything's got to be bigger for live use. Saying that iPad Plus just doesn't appeal to me at the moment but I can see it's place in DAW territory and most definitely apps like egoist or stroke machine.

  • Right, the question is whether this year's iPad will have more than 2GB ram. Do Air 2 users feel like the extra ram really allows for a lot more to be going simultaneously? Is it a big difference compared to Air 1 with 1GB ram?

  • I haven't carried out any stringent tests but to me at this point it is mainly psychological. Yesterday I've tried tone stack on top of my usual set up and it held without a glitch but to be honest I wouldn't even attempt this on air 1. I'd feel I'm taking too many risks.

  • I didn't really have a lot of problems with Ipad 3. I had a tendency to run out of CPU before I ran out of memory. Air 2 seems to do everything I want it to for now, but I'm not running huge projects - biggest so far was 13 tracks, and I'm diligent about freezing tracks when I'm not working on them.

  • I wouldn't expect to hear anything until October. If it's not a total make-traditional-computers-obsolete type of play I think I'm done with iPad for a while. I'm sick of the in-betweeness of it.

Every year it's phones in October, followed by new ipads.

  • I thought that was what the watch was — the next iPad.

what are you freezing tracks in?

  • The Air 2 is a very powerful beast, it's hard to make a dent on the CPU, so even if they do beef up the specs it'll be a while before apps appear that can take advantage of it.

  • They should probably have cut iPad 2 loose from the upgrade to ios9

That might be true but it could open new things. I have tools on my notebook which my i7 quadcore can't run more than one instance even with 1024 samples latency ;) I like when developers take advantage of such resources instead of always looking for low cpu/ram usage if they offer something new.

  • The extra RAM in the Air 2 definitely makes a difference IMO, Auria can now handle anything, whereas on my iPad 4 I was often down to a few Meg, and then it would run the risk of crashing. The extra CPU grunt is great too, no more having to freeze tracks.

Side benefit is that you can run multiple apps simultaneously, like having Gadget play in the background while guitar through BIAS FX.

The iPad is a different market though - customers don't update their device as often as Apple would like so there's still a lot of customers on old devices - most developers will be reluctant to make their apps too chunky for fear of losing older device customers. I reckon it'd be a year or so after the new pad is released before the new apps really started taking off. The Air 2 has been around for a while now but there are still only a few apps that take advantage of it's extra grunt.

That's true but desktops/notebooks should be the things which get's updated even less ;) I'm waiting myself for some better CPU here (like some developers too).

  • @kobamoto, I'm freezing tracks in Auria.

  • I heard there will be a new iPad coming out sometime...

  • latest rumors are saying iPad pro before end of the year. http://www.macrumors.com/2015/08/19/ipad-pro-with-force-touch-stylus/

I don't think I'll have the chance to buy such a product... can't imagine how pricey these will be. Still, seems like a great upgrade, especially with the new iOS 9 split screen feature.

Also, I 'm really hoping iOS gets a USB-C port. I was just this week wasting time syncing over iTunes thinking about how ridiculous it is that iOS still uses USB 2.0 over the current lightning connection.

Ditto, Can't see how I could ever afford one either.

  • It's getting into laptop territory, and hardware synths etc.

iPad pro or octatrack? iPro or korg odyssey remake?

I don't give a shit how much it costs, I'm buying one

  • I would love to buy one, two kids in school, won't happen. Maybe I can hope for a refurb. For less than a grand........
