  • I appreciate the quality and usefulness of this app, and the sheer joy many have using it to create these "micro tracks", but can someone link me to a full track that's long enough to absorb made with figure?

  • edited July 2015

    @touchconspiracy

I suggest that you check out the "Further With Figure" SoundCloud group. Longer tracks made with Figure gets posted there.

Also I've done videos in the past where I am performing full tracks live with Figure, sometimes also together with other apps. Heres a few:

Jakob Haq - "Psychodelight" - Live Figure Jam

jakoB haQ - "East-R" Jam [LIVE Figure & Argon performance]

Jakob Haq - "Border Space" [LIVE Borderlands Granular and Figure]

Here's my oldest and first ever Figure video:
jakoB haQ - "Dubtechnico" (LIVE Figure performance on iPad mini 1st gen)

  • Hi, my name is asnor and I'm a figure addict. :-)

Thanks for the tips, links, appreciate yer time mate..

After sifting through all this, I could only find this

This "Danger" producer is really really talented, up there with top progressive producers imho

Majority of the tracks on that further with figure were only 1.5 - 2 minutes long man...

  • @asnor Nice to meet fellow FigureAddictees here in the Audiobus Forums!

  • @Paul16 That was a very funny and cool track, loved it! :)

  • @touchconspiracy I'm happy to help! If I find more I'll make sure to point you to it. :)

  • I do DJ mixes of iOS dance music. I'm quite fussy tho..don't matter the apps used but so far, only stuff made with gadget has impressed me. I like if it sounds like what one would hear in clubs

    Cheers!

Really? Not even stuff made in NanoStudio or Beatmaker? You are fussy!

  • @touchconspiracy When I sit down and produce music I like to blend stuff from a multitude of apps. Just one app isn't enough at those moments. It all ends up in Cubasis. :)

Here's a track I made using a LOT of apps. There's a bit of gadget in there too. :)

  • Not fussy, but let's be honest, nano and bm2 are sorely outdated and do not output anywhere close to the quality of gadget..

Let me be clear, there's a certain overall power that's needed for proper dance music , very very few apps and iOS artists can generate this.

The power I'm talking about is overall power, you can feel the intention of the artist in the track...

It's like comparing retronyms original synth with the likes of nave when u bring up nano and bm2 in a gadget comparison mate..

  • If you know your onions, then (pretty much) any tool will do...

  • I do prog influenced production. I rely heavily on Figure. But I also Audiocopy my Figure loops into Auria to mix with my Beatmaker loops...so no, not black-n-white.

  • Chuck Yeager had a famous quote: "It's the man, not the machine" .

  • I used to have that tendency for using tons of apps, but all that ACP or routing via IAA and AB started to get time consuming. I think it's fair to say that the amount and variety of synth gadgets covers pretty much what the standalone iOS synths can do.

But that is just my own workflow , if results can be had by others via more technical and complex means then that is wonderful.

Had a listen to your track, although it's not my cup of tea, I have to say that the execution and the clarity in the overall production is commendable. It really was very clear and tight..

I would like to see how you would pull off a full length dnb or progressive house track?

Anyway, good work man, impressed with the quality

  • Interesting that Gadget is considered to produce "higher/better" songs than Nanostudio and Beatmaker.

Personally I still find most "talented" ios musicians still use those two apps.

Yet, the first thing people always ask is, "what camera/lens/mic/preamp/software did you use?" ;-)

Nah, they always ask me What the hell were you saying? :)

I don't believe touchconspiracy is referring to "songs", rather, house music.
Otherwise, I would have shared or for examples
    :-D

  • Lol, u saying house is not music? Not songs? Define what a song or music is mate cause really, music is a universal language and not restricted to genre...lol

  • Lol, try harder..had a listen, it's not bad but lacks overall power and is certainly not the kind of dancefloor stuff I'm asking for. It's like he is revving the engine but is scared to let go of the handbrake and move forward into the traffic...

He has his own style and that's great but it's kind of stuck

Go check out two gadget artists - sinking feeling and pattern seeker UK , they have power, only use gadget and certainly make the stuff real djs would play

    Here's one solid example..

@touchconspiracy - as much as I love Gadget - i've got to say I disagree that it's the only app that can make powerful music (dance music or any other). It might be easier than any other app to get there, though. I'll give you that.

    Examples:

    • NanoStudio:

iPhonica by Vector Lovers - entirely made in NanoStudio apparently. Got a proper commercial release. You really can't argue with the 'quality':

    https://open.spotify.com/album/4roz8EzK4yY3kKCaVoZ4Ux

    • Beatmaker 2 - well it doesn't make any sound - so BM2 is purely a question of what you put into it. If you put Animoog, Thor, Sunrizer and Nave into it and you're a skilled musician (in any genre) it's gonna sound pretty amazing.

For example, RedSkyLullaby's album made mostly in BM2 I believe - but using all sorts of different apps...

    https://m.soundcloud.com/stuartkilbride/sets/ios-album

    • And then of course there's The Fall by Gorillaz... using loads of different (and old) iOS apps. Sounds pretty damn good to me (although i'm sure it was mastered on a computer)

    https://open.spotify.com/album/5jJGGsAztgUEXUHHZ2zrah

    • Second to last point i'd make is that Gadget in some ways is harder to make really great sounds with sometimes - it's synths are quite optimised and stripped down compared to say, Sunriser, Thor or Nave.

    • Final point is that if you stick it in Auria and know what you're doing - can can probably make any app sound great.

Where did I say house was not music? Both of my earlier comments in this thread referred to house MUSIC. A song contains lyrics. I've been listening to a lot more house lately and, while there are vocals here and there, lyrics seem rare. My examples should display clearly my thoughts on restricting to genre.

  • Maybe I rephrase that ..

It's the only app I've heard that can deliver the goods fully. I'm not saying the others can't in an absolute sense but I've yet to hear stuff that's according to my taste especially as an underground DJ

Cannot open the spotify links cause it needs the app installed and I'll do so later

Red sky lullaby is impressive, like his stuff but it's mostly downtempo, chill ,glitch kind of ting. While that's valid, it's not what I'm asking to hear on this forum

I'll restate, I'm looking to hear real techno , real dnb, real progressive house like what is on the dancefloors , radio etc

Seems to me that most iOS artists are doing their own take on it, and that's wonderful, but I'm longing to hear the real thing..

Hard for peeps here to understand but I've been mixing etc since 1985, been very active in various electronic scenes in different ways and different capacities
