Lot of tweaking and mangling going on there :) Would like to hear some of your stuff...

In this tread a lot of apps are mentioned not only twice, if I like them, why not)

Not like anyone cares, but I'm thinking Seekbeats would take the spot of Attack on my list. I'm utilizing the randomizer feature in a way I hadn't prior (just snapshot anything I like, then go back and really tweak the sound how I want later) and really getting a lot of great usable stuff quickly.

    I care too! I really do :).

I fricking love Seekbeats for that very reason. very quick to come up with new sounds. Which I then take into Gadget as a 'kit'.

  • Also, I just started using my SPD-30 with SeekBeats, and it's amazing!

My one issue is that the mutes don't seem to work quite how I want them. I like being able to create these really mangled tones that have a long/infinite release, and then be able to mute it if I trigger another drum. Never seems to work quite how I envision...

  • @CalCutta

Does firing midi at Seekbeats not make it crash for you? I find if I try to send any (virtual) midi in then it normally crashes after a minute or so (or it simply stops receiving midi)?

I have some other gripes... For example, if the amp curve doesn't curve down to zero then you get an infinite buzz. So whenever you use the random you have to go and correct for this.

I haven't really used the mutes.

The sounds you can get out of it is the key thing at the ed of the day though. It just consistently sounds good to my ear.

I have Attack but in the 1 hour or so i've given it so far it felt hard to get my head around and fiddly to get the sounds I wanted.

I just find Animoog an irresistible thing of beauty. It's gotta be the "coolest" synth. I love the random button too.

Uuuuhhh...well hello random button! Looks like I will be back in animoog for a bit, thanks for the heads up on that one. 8)

I have the same issue with Virtual MIDI and SeekBeats. Seems to be fine with CoreMIDI though. Using it with a Roland SPD-30 and an iConnect Audio4+ and it's worked pretty great (resolution's not perfect, but that's typically a big ask).

What you mentioned about the envelopes, that's the problem as far as the mutes go. I would love it if the mute function could override the envelope and just mute the sound entirely. That doesn't happen. I think that's a feature request I'm going to make.

  • In the past I would have probably said a bunch of amp modelers, but nowadays I'm all about micing up the real thing. The only app I really use now is Auria.

  • One app that hasn't been mentioned is Diode 108. It adds many twists and features to the drum machine formula and has a great sound library. It's a unique and powerful app.

Gee, I can't read these unformated lists.
    A) u guys need to learn html or
    B) we talk sebastian and michael into a wysiwyg editor for the forum

You're making it hard on yourself. Vanilla supports markdown.

So to make an unordered list, just preface each line like:

    * Unordered list can use asterisks
    - Or minuses
    + Or pluses

    will make:

    • Unordered list can use asterisks
    • Or minuses
    • Or pluses

    And using numbers will make:

    1. This
    2. ordered
    2. list

    1. This
    2. ordered
    3. list

Note that the numbers don't actually matter. I used 2. twice and markdown just hooks it up. Thanks, Gruber.

Also note that there needs to be a full line above and below either list type.

You also don't need to use <br> for new lines. Just put two spaces at the end of any line.

Interesting. So maybe a solution would be for me to somehow use MidiBridge or something to fool Seekbeats into thinking it's getting core midi in from, say, DrumJam or Auxy or something?

  • edited August 2015

That should work, although I think that's more of a headache than worthwhile (I try to avoid MidiBridge like the plague). If anything, and esp. for your workflow, I'd say sample a bunch of sounds you really like from SeekBeats and load it into something like Gadget and go from there (you lose the realtime control of the envelopes and other SeekBeats sound parameters), but you could compensate with editing features in Gadget or wherever you load the sample).

  • Thanks @Calcutta. Yes, that's pretty much exactly what I've been doing.

I just figured that it might be nice to one day drive SeekBeats with something like ProMidi and modulate a ton of parameters over a song lengths worth of beats.

Could end up sounding pretty sweet.

But the alternative for me is producing in Gadget with a set of sampled SeekBeat sounds and then taking into Auria and automating with the Turnado plugin as a last stage.

  • Very much hope for the day SeekBeats gets CC in. Not only for the individual sound parameters, but for the randomization sliders for each and all of the sounds. Then to also be able to recall a snapshot via-either CC or PC. The possibilities there would be HUGE.

  • you should request that, the dev of seek beats is very receptive to good ideas

  • Yep I've talked to him before, very nice guy!

Have you tried with Elastic Drums?

It has all 16 parameters on all 6 instruments controllable via incoming Midi CCs. With the right midi controller / sequencer that could be pretty amazing.

I somehow missed that update. That is sweet. Elastic Drums + BeatStep Pro pretty please immediately right now yes thank you.

  • I do have ED ducks tomato

I don't know why, but the workflow of Elastic Drums didn't mesh with me. I like some of the features (random velocity wackiness on any parameter is neat). I've been big on drum synths over samples lately. Probably should give it another go.

I really like the drum synth feature on Beat-Machine. How you can use it solo, or in tandem with a sample. Comes in handy.

If Impaktor could be triggered by MIDI...drools

OK. It's almost the middle of the month and I am NOWHERE with SOTMC for August. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. As a sign of my desperation I am going to pretend that divine intervention has sent you as its vessel and I am going to write something which will start with Bebot into FLUX.
