Not a great idea. Audiobus Remote communicates with 3KB/s. If you transfer app icons it'll take a minute or two.
Btw, you can expect minimize/maximize buttons in an upcoming update of Remote.
@TTrGames wow looks great! Yes, I believe most should figure out what "S" & "M" stands for
Cool!
This sounds pretty useful.
Curious about this. Clearly AB Remote has access to some version of the app icons, which are used as the images for app switching triggers. Perhaps they're already embedded in the app the same way the smaller icons show up in the pick list for regular AB. Could these same images be used on the MiMix mixer buttons? MiMix can only mix apps which are currently part of the active AB signal flow, which are exactly the same set of apps accessible by AB Remote. Feels like a match made in heaven. I'm always a fan of icons over words when trying to quickly parse a display with a lot of buttons.
@TTrGames. With regard to the proliferation of buttons, would it be possible to have just a single set of Up/Down/Mute/Solo buttons and 8 channels selectors? Would only allow adjust one channel at a time, but would provide a very quick way to pick the channel you care about.
Actually the problem is that the trigger buttons show masks. These are 1-bit images calculated from alpha channel of a given image, and can display 2 possible colors: transparent or opaque, tinted with a given color. Now an app icon is a full-color image with no transparency. I cannot think of a proper algorithm which can convert the myriad of app icons to 1-bit which always gives proper result so one can tell it's the icon of a given app. Sure it would be nice to have this but this is limited in the SDK. One can only cook with what they have...
It is possible, but i like the separate volume buttons more. Also you can set the volumes of two channels at the same time with two fingers! :-) And more importantly, this way you can tell by a glance which ports are muted or in solo mode.
Yep.
But caching other icons is currently not possible, as it would mean that we'd have to give developers a way to upload these icons to our database on the web, which would then have to be synced with AB Remote via wifi. It's just tricky and potentially error prone, so we've decided against it for now.
@TTrGames: yes, please do not just show one channel at a time, I really need to be able to mess with multiple channels simultaneously..., that's one of the greatest things about mimix to me (by the way: thanks for the work you put into this, it's greatly appreciated..), t
This is another example where it would be nice if app developer could expose options to users for what shows in Remote - so each user can make decisions about how Remote real estate gets used, and have some level of customization for their own workflow.
Assuming it's not possible now, but would be nice in a future version.
Actually i already put a switch in the settings to have the possibility to turn off the volume trigger buttons, so a user can choose between a full 4x6 button setup and a just mute/solo 4x2 buttons setup which takes up much less space in portait mode.
Cool. Glad to hear that's possible.
I like to add options. There also will be an option to show port names on the Remote, which is cool if the Remote runs on an iPad, or use the M or S icons which are better if Remote runs on an iPhone.
@TTrGames: that's great, I do like to have options, thank you!
Looking good:)
state saving und midi shebang will make this pretty useful, sounds like you've got a keeper. Does it multi solo? So I can mute/solo 2 tracks of 8 with one hand (2 fingers)?
No it does not. But i can make it so with the option to choose solo mode between single/multi solo if it's a feature You people find useful.
I like it. Press 2 solo buttons instead of 6 mute buttons.
Unpress the solo buttons > back to all 8 tracks, With 8 tracks running
it works like the mute buttons only the other way around ...
simple solo is of little use. Multi solo is great.
Alrighty, i added Multi Solo mode. Seems to work surprisingly satisfying. I made a quick video of this :-)
Told you so. Have fun! and soon we'll all have fun with it
Testflight ?
Yessir
You have mail
I already own MiMix. Do you need any more testers on this new version? Send me a PM if you do. I have a Testflight account.
In case the others didn't get mutisolo
With the mute buttons you say I don't want to hear this
with the solo buttons in multi solo you say I want to hear this or all
Also, is there any chance that DMIMixer gets MIDI and AB Remote? That app has become vital to my setup and I'd really like to have the ability to control levels externally...
Jamming on it already. soon as a free update in the store.
DMIMixer will get an update to have current AudioBus SDK, i think i can squeeze MIDI and Remote support in it... Nice to hear from someone who uses DMIMixer a lot :-) How do You use it in Your setup?
I use it as a direct volume control and occasional level monitor for whatever stereo (hardware synth/drum machine) or mic signal I want to run into the iPad. It would be lovely to be able to control the input volume/pan via-external controller, less movement/screen switching for me.
edit: That actually leads me to one final request for DMIMixer (and I'm guessing it would be pretty helpful for MiMix, as well): The ability to link volume controls, so if you move one fader/knob, it moves them all. I'd probably want this to be independent of panning controls (I wouldn't want Pan linked, that's something I like messing with independently on the channel).
