Windows 10 Audio Production Discussion
I'm sure that I'll catch some flack for this one but I think it's worth sharing. This is a great interview discussing window 10 audio production.
So the f what you ask? Windows 10 will run across desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones, etc. Same OS
Still don't care? Major players are making new windows software. Including Figure and Korg's Gadget.
Apparently they are making it easy for devs to port over iOS versions of their apps.
Finally, there is an estimated 1 billion Windows 10 users by next year. With more variety and a wider community, the competition against companies will be fantastic for end users like us. I think this is very exciting news for for all of us!

Meh. They couldn't interest anyone in windows phones, now its windows phones with office. Yawn.
what do I want with iOS apps ported to windows? I've got iOS, so no thx.
their surface still sucks monkeys balls, no software made for touch - who the f*** wants that?
now with software as seen on the iPad, is that their new slogan? Lol
no MIDI via Bluetooth , no thunderbolt. Meh.
have you seen the bitwig Microsoft demo? Awful and unpractical beyond belief. Enter single notes with velocity via stylus. Haha. I fell off the chair laughing when I saw that ...
Here you go, rofl
Once Steinberg iron out the bugs with Cubase I'll be updating to WIn 10 on my studio PC - I'll be sticking with iOS for the portable option though - I've 'invested' too much in apps to let it all go.
It would be great if Windows 10 works but I am skeptical because there have been major problems with every release that came out since Windows 95. And the Xbox has major problems too. I would wait a while before jumping into their ecosystem. Microsoft has a terrible track record.
If it results in something worth checking out, then it certainly can't hurt. Seems like they're just following though and not leading.
I would love for Windows 10 to be optimized for audio. But yes, I am skeptical too. iOS is just easy, and the Mac DAW workflow hasn't started to suck too much.
Crossing fingers for an iPad pro, and low latency audio in Windows.
I'm currently planning a PC build based around the i7 5960X, ssd's and up to 64gb ram. If Microsoft dedicate 1 core to audio functions then that could make my extreme PC extremely stable and fast.
Btw what happened to windows 9- can't they count !
I worked for years with windows and music software and never had any problems with crashes or out of ram.If you use a good external sound interface you can do the same you could also do on a mac.Think when windows supports multi touch im considering to buy a windows tablet.
You think you need this high specs to create some music on a windows pc? Dont know why you think you need 64gb ram to have a stable windows machine, because my laptop runs on i7 (8 cores) and has 6 gb ram and Reason and Ableton runs rock solid with a very low latency of 5 ms using a m-audio soundinterface (24bit 96000khz).
@proto: u need a little more beef if you want to fire something like this ...

I could see myself using a Windows tablet. The jury's still out on whether having the same OS on multiple devices is a winning strategy, but for me, that makes a lot more sense than what Apple's doing, considering the advances in mobile computing power.
The fact that they have to develop two OSes with yearly releases is not helping their security and stability track records.
touchsoftware for surface will not get better, except for ported iOS apps, lol
Who will write dedicated touch software for the surface with this windows everywhere thing?
no one!
If you buy a new mid-range pc or laptop this are the standard specs you nowadays get.
It's just an example for libs that eat ram for breakfast...
I think it's a great idea. I hope Microsoft makes it works. It'll make Apple to rethink there politics(Hope?) if Apple removed there finger out from there A%$e, then we won't have all this midi communication cockup that we have on IOS. It would be fantastic if our iPads can talk the same language towards the Macs & PCs, in one happy unity.
Agree that it's good news for everyone this, about time Microsoft put more time into audio. The multi platform thing is good because it can breed experimentation and iOS needs more competition.
I hope Windows 10 will be Audiobus compatible.
I reckon Sugar bytes could make a great XBox Vst
Windows version 9 missing, aren't they into the teens anyway, as for touch software how about FL-Studio, slow progress maybe, but Mac OSX hardly moves at the speed of light, a fusion between touch and laptop computing is inevitable and with the distinct lack of an iPad Pro, M$oft may yet pull a blinder, anyway competition can't be bad, can it?
I was on Windows 10 for a day or two but went back to Windows 7 after experiencing some minor issues with the Wacom tablet, super easy to do that, I'll try again in a couple of months.
Interesting development. iOS is widely accepted and adopted in the audio world add also that a lot of musicians have invested in iOS apps and for that reason I don't see the professional userbase of iOS like apps for Windows on the short term. I think that the userbase of for example an bilion of users is something different than people who actually use specific (ie audio) software on that platform.
Look at Android that has worldwide a much larger userbase than iOS though most audio apps don't really work that good on most (older) devices and also there was untill a year ago not much intersting development in audio apps.
The only thing that could blow iOS audio userbase away is if you will pay once for an app and get with this payment access all platform versions. That would be an interesting model and probably is also good for innovation. The different platforms would have to compete in making the best environment for developers.
Interesting, I decided to hold off from upgrading to Win10 (from Win7) as I was wary of the new data-mining 'features', I'II see how things develop.
This is good news for us Windows PC users. I'm thinking that any attention paid to audio can't hurt. What they do with their mobile devices is not a factor for me, unless it influences Apple in a good way.
Why Windows 10 and not 9? Well, they had Windows 95 and then Win98, I'm pretty sure they felt that a Windows 9 would cause unneeded confusion.
according to J Fallon, Windows 7 ate nine.... >_<
I am assuming windows 10 mobile, or whatever it will be monikered, will allow users to access their sounds from any app in any folder. I sure miss that.
Going to mobile ios was a bit of a wtf. Be nice if we just had a 'my sounds' folder like photos, accessed by all apps. All this audiocopy, sound share, clipboard hacks... MmmmmmmmmmEHhh.... Not being grouchy but the idea of windows not having this limitation... Huge bonus!!
I have been using computers for music and video for a long time including Commodore, Mac OS 7, MS-DOS and Windows. I have pretty much been on MacOS since 1993 and more recently iOS. Nothing in the PC/Windows world has come along that gave me any incentive to change that. A lot of "big developments" have come and gone (not just in the Windows world). Good luck this time around. LOL!
Great after upgrading to w10 i can play mine craft beta.
Competition.
It would be healthy to the market if Windows 10 works because it would mean Apple would have to up its' game to compete.
Competition is what made Apple great. They didn't have the advantage of making the deal Bill Gates made with IBM over 30 years ago that made Windows the standard in the business world.
Apple almost went out of business in the 90's but then Steve Jobs came back and they focused on quality and innovation to compete. But now that Apple is the most profitable company in the world there has been a slight downgrade in quality. If Windows 10 is successful it will give Apple a much needed kick in the ass.
Yeah, competition can only be a good thing for us musos. Personally I have no love / no axe to grind for either MS or Apple - I just use their stuff.
