  • In my ideal world, there are two times (listed in order of preference):

-Mid-morning, after a run and a shower, sipping coffee
-Late evening between 8p and midnight

In practice, I'm rarely free at these times. It's a struggle to find time at this stage of my life.

  • Flat on me back during the pre dawn hours..

No matter what time of day, I need 1 hour to warm up and 1 more hour to get in Zone. The way things work now, I basically need the entire day to stumble upon the mental consistency that grants me these 2 hours, and still have at least 2 more hours on the other side. I'm hoping my apartment move tomorrow will also bring a fresh routine that lets me establish a time slot either in the early morning or late afternoon... Between 10 pm and 3 am is always good, but I just don't think it is sustainable now that I'm out of art school and trying to function as a human....

  • Varies. If I'm in the middle of a track I will get up about 4.30 am and get an hour in before I go to work and get back on it as soon as I get in.

I also take full advantage of flexible working and build up flexi time so I can get as many long weekends as possible. Then I can get a couple of all-nighters in and really crack on.

Then when I've finished a track, I just play around for a bit here and there until the next one starts to grow legs.

  • In the moments between.

Since when is there a 4:30 in the morning? Actually I'm a bit more like @taroface. I need an hour just to get motivated/warmed up. Trying to find time for me to do my music is hard.

  • Once a month at my monthly jam. Times in between are hit or miss. And, of course, there's no real work during the monthly jam aside from the cleanup afterwards.

That's a great point man. I do feel that my weekly jam/rehearsal is more for fun than composition, and it keeps me out of the looney bin.

  • I need to bump mine up to weekly as well @Martygras. Monthly is far too long. Now, how do you sell that to your wife???
