I bought this the other night, really good app. That 99 hands kit is very cool.
One of the keepers. I have a feeling that when the dust settles most of us will have but a few drum machines and this will be one of them.
Diode108 is awesome too!
Ok bought it. Thought I would offer my impressions after playing with it for an hour or two.
It actually sounds pretty good. Not sure why I found it so harsh last time.
Love the advanced mode on all the fx pages. Don't see the point of having 2 modes though, just always advanced. Dragging ranges with curves is brilliant, a randomise curve would be great. Some of the fx seemed a bit too subtle on first listening.
Dislike drop downs generally. Although I understand that space is at a premium, I find drop down menus too fiddly.
For pattern selection, launching a small dialog would be more effective. This would also give the option to create a new empty pattern or duplicate another without having to find those options in the song view (i.e. Steal DM1s way of doing it)
Selecting an instrument in the fx views is frustrating because I don't always remember which I have used by name. So I had to switch back to the pattern view, when highlighting which instrument tracks are in use, in the menu, would make this much easier.
I recorded a drum beat with the pads. There was some weirdness with getting the metronome going but I stuck with it. Recorded a nice beat but found that it started 4 beats too late. No way to rotate the beats in the pattern?
Post Patterning it may seem a little unfair to make comparisons already. But I wouldn't see any harm in being influenced a little. Having different length sequences for each instrument turns out to be a great way to make different patterns. If you could set a non-destructive start and stop point on each row in pattern view, well that would allow a different take on this idea.
I noticed when calling up the pattern edit dialog in song view that you could set different ratios of bpm. Then I saw the input for BPM and thought "it's a cherry on an ironing board! Per track tempo!" But no, it's read only field . Having subtly varying Tempos in a track can really help with the push and pull of a song but no-one seems to think this important on an iOS drum machine to date unless I have missed one.
Talking of song-view can we have a repeat value so that I don't have to add and scroll through 47 instances of the same pattern? (Not always 47)
Overall though I am enjoying Diode-108. I think @monzo's assessment was fair, in saying that this drum machine works better for intricately programming each beat and it is great for that. You also clearly have spent a lot of time and effort making Diode-108 work well with other apps in the iOS environment.
Hope some of this helpful in seeing how one user interacted with your app but feel free to ignore any and all suggestions as you already have made a creditable drum machine that will likely appear in my future productions.
Oh and can we preview drum kits like you know who...?
