If I could get just one VirSyn additive synth, which would you recommend? The diversity of overlapping options is kind of confusing. Also, I’m a little hesitant due to the typical VirSyn UI/UX issues, so I’m also open to “get something else entirely.”

jonmoore wrote a good recap at this link, scroll about halfway down, and further for a Poseidon tutorial, which is also in the Knowledge Base.

Thanks, @bygjohn. It looks like all Virsyn/Harry Gohs apps are up to 70% off, with some at new lows - https://apps.apple.com/developer/id382428644

I'm sure Popps or someone will be along with the obligatory screenshots.

AudioLayer for $9 is incredible value. It's worth it for the integrated orchestral library alone. The other one that appears to be 70% off is Addictive Pro. Nobody makes additive synthesis more intuitive and AP is the pick of Harry's additive synthesis apps (although it can be processer intensive on oil older devices). AudioLayer isn't without its faults but there's no better multi-sample app on iOS.

Never realised Audiolayer had an orchestral library.
Can you comment on how it compares to orchestral IAPs in the likes of Module and Beathawk?

It looks like AudioLayer was never so cheap like today. Also few other synths from about 20 bucks to 7 (!)

  • Thanks all for the input and links to previous discussions. I pulled the trigger on AddStation. The time investment in deeply exploring additive is more of a concern than cost, so am sticking to just one for now.

  • There’s some free Addstation presets out there too from @Pxlhg just search this forum.

The Addstation interface is a little Different, and was slightly odd to me at first, but once you explore a little, double tap a block, you see how it works a lot better. I love how basically every section inside of each block/wave has a random button, Fx random button, and the new preset creator random button is fun. This synth sounds great, and is really interesting to dig into.

Yea that’s a deal. They went hard on the sales this BF.

    Addictive Pro.

BTW, there was a thread about this not too long ago and people's votes were all over the place so don't expect anything different here either ;)

Edit: I was late. And wrong. 🤷

Regarding a few of these Virsyn apps, do the Pro/Mini versions of the synth apps have different presets? For example:

Cube Synth (owned) <> Cube Synth Pro?
Addictive Synth (owned) <> Addictive MicroSynth <> Addictive Pro?

I do own TeraSynth and MicroTERA and can see those have different sets of sounds, but not sure that applies to all.

  • I may finally get Arpeggist :smirk:

This. I would rush to pick up Addictive Pro at this peanut price if I didn't have it :)

Same ! Virsyn/Harry Gohs apps are amongst my favorite ones.

    They just have that sound...

Honestly curious. What do you like about that sound? I bought so many Virsyn apps before I realized: I can't stand that sound. To me they all sound brittle and reedy. I put Toneboosters' Flowtones in the same category. I can obviously find a patch I do like, but it takes a lot of coaxing and the presets are all unappealing.

I am wondering what genre of music you gravitate toward? I don't want to derail this thread any further, but I wonder if there's some correlation between certain synths and certain genres.

Godspeed, man. That one's looking rather abandoned. I'd be concerned about it getting pulled from the App Store. Not to mention, it's been offered at that price plenty of times.

How can I possibly answer that? :) It's a bit like "why do you like that person" - who knows? No idea. You just do. And someone else doesn't, just like you and me are about the Virsyn sound. It's really subjective, intangible I think. I honestly don't know what to say 🤷

I am wondering what genre of music you gravitate toward?

I find stuff I like in most of them, except maybe oper(ett)a and metal. I listen to Renaissance motets. Frank Zappa. Dua Lipa. 😶

  • You and I, we are not so different, Mr. Bond.

  • Guys, to buy or not to buy the AudioEffx, if I already have MixBox and iFX Rack?

I would skip unless you just really like their effect interface (which is somewhat consistent across products) or have a specific use case. ducks

  • So… should I buy ifx rack?

    AddStation

I'd have said AddStation before Cube Synth Pro was released but now definitely go for Cube Synth Pro. Would pay good money for a desktop version @VirSyn - absolutely brilliant Synth

    So true, brother
But you know that app you have on your wishlist forever and never got it?
That's one of them for me

If you happen to own an M1 Mac then it is available as a free (if you own the iOS version) cross-compatible app and can be loaded into Logic/GarageBand.

You know I was wondering why it Wasn’t discounted more? Been 5 years since an update…

There was a time when AudioEffx was handy to have as a multiFX rack but times move on and I'd agree, given what you already have, save your coin on this (not so) tempting offer.

Most of them comes with the app, under user/Pxlhg I, Pxlhg II and so on. I did a pack that is not included so just watch out for that. No need to install what is already there. :)

Can you ever have too many effects racks?

FF creative fx bundle is out. Showing $35 for me but I have Saturn 2. So it would be $17.50 each for timeless and Volcano. Been buying fx lately but I’m gonna have to do this…. If you bought two already you’d get the third real cheap. Maybe someone could chime in with full pricing?

  • And there could be a bf sale, I guess we shall see…

Damn that was quick. I guess I could have waited one day and got it for much cheaper. Do people ever have luck requesting refunds on these? 😅 not that it’s really that big of a deal

Got me Poseidon a while back because stupid me thought I could analyze and use my own samples like in the desktop version.
    Only preset models though.
Is there any additive or wavetable iOS synth from Virsyn that lets you import and work with your own samples like in Nave etc.?
