  • On Air2, stand-alone is grand, AU in AUM I can barely run 1 instance. Maybe time for an iPad upgrade. Had my Air2 since Xmas 2011.

I can’t follow the import instructions because I wasn’t updated to the latest version of legacy app before you pulled it from the App Store. So I don’t have the required folder structure in Files to zip & export anything.

Which makes me pretty sad because I bought every IAP for the original. And now that you’ve pulled it off the store if I ever lose it due to some iPad catastrophe it will be gone forever, and won’t have a way to use all the things I’ve bought or created in the new Z app.

Keeping the legacy app on the Store with a warning that it’s been depreciated and is no longer maintained would solve this issue. Otherwise I’m not sure what options I have.

Any help or info would be appreciated

    Hi Druzy,

We have no intention to remove the original Animoog from the App Store, we've actively maintained and improved it for 10 years and are proud of it. The last two updates were explicitly to make things as fair as possible and easy as possible. The 4-tracker was made available for free for everyone forever, and we added Files integration for all your files (even the purchased IAPs), which makes the upgrade to Animoog Z easy and allows free access to your original presets and timbres for any other reason. That being said, it had become very difficult to maintain the original Animoog because a lot of the technologies it relies upon have been deprecated and aren't maintained by Apple anymore (OpenGL/ES, Inter-App Audio, ...). The original Animoog will always continue to work on the devices and iOS versions you currently have and will be available to download through your Purchases section. Since we don't feel we can keep its quality high in the future, we removed it from sale for new customers.

  • Transferring via the zip file is not working at all for me. I follow the instructions it says transfer complete, but nothing happens.

    Otherwise, loving the Z

  • @MoogMusicInc I posted info on what seems like a bug with toggle buttons and MIDI CCs at the Moog Music forum, are you there too?

After getting my old presets (yes, I bought all of them in the old App and manually added more) into Animoog Z and checking that it can sound like the original, I finally bought Animoog Z!
    Many thanks.

One question remains, at least I did not notice an explanation so far:

Animoog Z plays back MIDI with lower notes than Animoog!
Why is that and how can we fix this?

    Hi Tja,

Glad you were able to move over your presets and thanks for your purchase.

The default MIDI octave of Animoog Z was changed to be the same as the Model 15 and the Minimoog Model D applications. It also generally makes the default range of external MIDI controllers better correspond to range of the built-in Animoog Z keyboard.

This is easy to work around if it's a problem for you, just transpose your MIDI notes one octave upwards either in your DAW editor, host MIDI tools or by adding a MIDI AUv3 processor that does this in real time.

    Hope this helps.

Yes bought all the IAPs…very happy with them

  • Sometimes apps do disappear forever, but that’s only when a developer discontinues their account, or in certain very rare instances (for legal reasons, etc.). That’s very unlikely for Moog.

The stock ones and Fundamental ones are really really good. Wayyy more usable and impressive than some of the wonkier stuff from the legacy (lookin at you, R Devine). Was less impressed with the other two, but there’s still a handful of gems in there.

This is an exciting app with a great sound, but it's one of the few apps which drains my iPad battery at an unusually high rate. Experience with other apps suggests this is to do with GUI redrawing rather than sound\DSP ...

Is this something the devs might be able look into? Happy to provide stats\tests if you let me know what info is useful to you. If there is a "battery-saver" mode, with lower refresh or whatever, that might help.

There are a few other posts in this thread of others finding the same, so it's not just my setup, though it might not affect all setups.

If I'm assured that looking into this is on the to-do list somewhere I'll buy it right away while it's on intro discount, as I love your apps and use them often :)

    Hi @craftycurate,

Yes, additional performance optimization and power consumption optimization is planned as part of our next efforts, as is continued maintenance and support over many years, as we've shown with our other apps.

Glad to hear - thanks for your swift reply!

You have indeed shown this with your other apps. Model 15 in particular has a level of polish and refinement, and ease of use and usability (e.g. the easy interface scrolling, double tap to dim cables etc) which makes the apps a joy to use and which I wish was present in all the apps I own.

    Bought! :#

I know what you mean - I have frequently been using a Model 15 instance to control everything when playing onscreen (slightly better Animoog keyboard than Animoog OG in my opinion).

What do you think is better about it?

  • late to the party here...glad Z is alive and kicking'...don't know though how to import old animoog presets. 1. Go to the app store and look at your purchased apps.
    2. Reinstall old Animoog from the purchased apps list.
    3. Run old Animoog and do restore purchases to get your packs installed again.
    4. Install new Animoog Z.

Then read the info earlier in this thread that tells you how to import presets from the old Animoog into the new Animoog.

I mostly use Model 15 when I need velocity onscreen. The main thing for me is that Model 15 tries to recognize the scale you have created by toggling keys on and off, which Amimoog OG doesn't do. But there is also a little less wasted space in the keyboard display, and it looks cooler overall. And the pads in Model 15 are more useful for layering if I suddenly get the urge (but I mostly layer with something that has more polyphony).

Animoog Z does try to recognize the scale, cool!

@MoogMusicInc I am loving this, it is fantastic! Thank you so so much!!!

It looks like all of the Animoog OG presets I have edited do not import with tags. I wonder if that could be a bug in the importer for recently created patches (i.e., patches created with a fairly new version of Animoog OG). Even factory patches that I saved with a different filename and virtually no changes don't seem to get a tag (whether they are in the same subfolder as the original factory patch or elsewhere).

The tags in timbre importing work great.

Edit: opened a ticket via email for this.

  • I noticed, that if you put Animoog Z in an effect slot in AUM, you could record Timbres. It receives audio from the source in the same channel.
That way, i'm able to record audio from an external source using a audio interface (iCA4)

I came here to ask specifically for advice/thoughts on the additional packs. I'm not sure I need them all (and also not sure how to hear test sounds from each), so I was hoping maybe some here have tried them.

@oat_phipps, if I were looking to just get one (max two) of the IAP pkgs, would you suggest Fundamentals?

Anyone else have a favorite expansion pack? I'd love to hear. Thanks so much!

  • Are the packs always going to be £4.99?

  • I just found out:
You can use WaveEdit to create your Timbres. The program allows to set to 16 waveforms at 1024 samples, so it matches the Timbres of Animoog.

An example of a Timbre i made with WaveEdit:

  • I’ve wondered this forever and longed for it to be a thing.

So in theory, not requesting, but could the one, 4, or 16 voices always be orbiting along the path instead of starting from the origin with each note on? Like how you can sync an LFO to a note on or just leave it free-running. Or would that be way too cpu intensive? One can dream…
