4Pockets "Time Machine" just went up AU$2 from $8 to $10... weird.

It wasn't on sale or anything. Just an "out of the blue" price rise. No new features. What gives?

    Inflation?

It happens sometimes, could be various reasons… hard to say exactly. 4 pockets apps seem to drop in price a lot, so it will probably go back down at some point.

My real guess is that the developer continues to play with pricing to determine what is the optimal price at which demand for the app is not harmed. If the price is “too high” then demand falls. If prices are raised and demand remains constant, then the price might go even higher.

At least he can give $4 discount instead of the usual $2 at the next sales 🤣

That is the discount sales game in a nutshell.

Tim at Disscord called devs like this “price bouncers” and graphed the changes over time. 4pockets was notorious for the practice.

I suppose in a very congested market some developers feel they have to use tactics of this nature. On one level it keeps the developer front of mind, but IMO, I believe it devalues their brand. It's the app equivalent of nuisance direct mail. You recognise the name of the company, but that recognition often serves as nothing more than a reminder to avoid.

If it gets Paul more sales then I'm fine with that.

He gives us so many extra features and add ons in his apps when he doesn't have to. The Particle Engine coming soon in Neon is a great example.

  • Particle engine?

    👀

  • It connects directly to CERN

  • Paul demoed the “granular” engine in his last Neon video manual

The conundrum is that it is really hard for music app developers to make a reasonable return on their invested time. So, those that are trying to make a living have to figure out what generates revenue. My experience is that a number of "influencers" don't really understand the economics and act as if devs are behaving sub-optimally in cases where they are just trying to find a way to make a living because for this market the economics are broken.

Judge a developer by their apps not whether their prices bounce. If iOS developers could access their customers and potential customers the way that desktop developers could things would be different.

Most desktop developers are bouncy with pricing in ways you never since they are handled through targeted promotions and co-promotions rather that you most people only occasionally see.

  • Tool

Convert Share is new, free, but will be $1.99. It also has IAP for unlimited conversion $1.99, so not sure how it will work. Does pics, video, audio, zips, batch convert.

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/convert-share/id1593132958

  • AmbientX Room is $5 off down to $.99

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ambientx-room-effect/id1542050240

I believe the developers other two apps are discounted to $2.99 as well both usually $5.99.
maze rider and bass Leveler, but they might have changed.

  • The Vocal Coach is free usually $11.99. Does have IAP subscription levels, not sure what is included.

Nothing weird about it - that's the price in 2024

  • Pics

After Focus is free usually $1.99, does have additional content for IAP.

I’d have to see a really convincing demo to buy AmbientX Room at any price. I just don’t see the value there.

Fair enough. Even though I’m well aware of the price bouncing, I buy everything 4Pockets (I’m notorious for this practice, going back to his pre-iOS stuff for the Windows Pocket PC platform. Including here a wish that he revive the early stuff, ie Aurora HD, or support more recent stuff, ie Synergy…)

  • Is Beathawk safe to update? Someone thought they lost the Trip Hop pack or did I misunderstand?

He called it a "Particle Engine".

Look at the video at 6.02:

I lost the trip hop pack but it was before the update and after a reinstallation. I just updated it after reading your message and its back. Not sure what happened but it seems all’s good now

I think that was sorted with a restore purchases in app.
Beathawk has always been safe to update in my experience.

I don’t know, nothing on youtube? It’s decent, sometimes the knobs are a little finicky. It’s a subtle effect.

Just noticed the Youlean loudness meter pro upgrade IAP is down to 19.99 from 29.99. On their website it’s still Black Friday for 1 day and 10 hours - probably that’s why it’s discounted.

    https://apps.apple.com/app/id1565571860

  • Beat Mirror- BPM Detector is $4 off down to $.99 - one day only.
