  • I for one like the discussion. Useful to have a quick recap on an app that’s not been reduced for a while. There’s plenty of places like appsliced to just get a feed of sales. I come here for discussion.

Don’t agree, reading stuff takes time away from actually spending money. Plus discussions are free. I’m up for paid discussions.

Then start another discussion thread called "app discussion". It is free and you can make as many threads as you like. Go crazy

We could have cooking recipies in this thread but it is meant to be about app sales.

    Pumpkin Soup:

    6 cups chicken stock
    1 ½ teaspoons salt
    4 cups pumpkin puree
    1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
    1 cup chopped onion
    ½ teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
    1 clove garlic, minced
    ½ cup heavy whipping cream
    5 whole black peppercorns

You selling or buying? How much for a pithy retort?

Mmm sounds delicious! If you cook it long enough, it’s technically ‘reduced’ so fits the thread topic too 👍

    😂

To be fair, can we not all agree that a little discussion about apps that are on sale is ok? And try and keep it on track (and yes, I realise the hypocrisy of what I’m saying!)

Ah, now you're not getting any soup you start to weaken and back down. The power of soup!

    Sure, I agree with you.

  • Usually people only complain about OT banter when the sales are coming in hot and heavy. We're in a bit of a lull right now.

    Exactly.

With that in mind, let’s put in our submissions for next year’s thread title.

C‘mon paying upfront is so 2021. Let’s make it a subscription.

“Characters” are so 90’s!. Lame. I’d say only yellow emojis, and obviously no ♥️ or 🕺, you have to pay for those,

  • The emoji here are so small, I often can't tell WTF they are. If I'm going to pay for them, I want bigger emoji.

Well, paid arguments have been invented already and they've become quite popular ;)

I don’t really care, and app discussions are fine. It was the recent “dev morality” discussion that felt out of place…. and inappropriate. For gosh darn sake, the whole purpose of this thread is to pay devs as little as possible, after all. And we’re still weighing the correctness of a bouncing $2 price change while we do that. Doesn’t feel fair.

I find a number of things somewhat annoying about 4Pockets -- workflow, interface, iconography, and yes, the endless rotation of "sales." But there's certainly nothing I care to argue on the internet about. If you're delighted with 4Pockets, I'm happy for you.

I'm very much in agreement here. 4Pockets apps may often be the cheapest option but seldom are they the best. Case in point Cameleon is a pale imitation of AudioLayer, Shimmer is a pale imitation of most other shimmer reverbs available on iOS (especially the Eventide and FAC options), and the current 4Pockers 'price bounce' app de jour Helium is a pale imitation of Atom 2.

I don't have anything against Paul or 4Pockets in general, I own a few of them and most often use Nu Rack for building bespoke utilities. But I do wish would Paul go the extra 20% with his apps to make them excel, rather than simply being good enough.

The great thing about FAC Alteza and Eventide's Blackhole & ShimmerVerb is that they're all so excellent you end up purchasing all three. They may cover similar ground but they each have something unique that adds to your palette of colours. 4Pockets Shimmer or even Bleass Shimmer (sorry Bleass, in general, I'm a fan of Bleass products) lacks the extra polish of their competitors and the competitor apps don't cost that much extra.

The long and short of it for me is that it's not just pricing acrobatics that puts me off 4Pockets apps. It's simply the case on many occasions they fall short of the baseline when compared to their competitor offerings.

To each their own. I much prefer Chameleon to AudioLayer, Neon does a lot of great things, etc. etc. 😎👍🏼

Eventide is a corporation with a great history! Paul is a person.

    FAC is a person too.

ID700 is $2 off down to $7.99 until the end of the year!

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id700/id1482698043

This was on my BF to New Years Day list, time to decide… I got a little though.

I remember hearing this has somewhat of a learning curve? Is that true? Even if you want to mainly send midi in?

How many presets? EDIT - Nevermind saw it has random preset creation…

    How is it on cpu?

ID700 can be pretty efficient just like any FM synth, but it can also be a CPU destroyer if you're not aware of what you're doing.

Part of what makes ID700 such a great sound design tool is its crazy long envelopes (up to 32 seconds), but those long envelopes, when used heavily will cause heavy CPU loads. You just have to be aware of what you asking of the synth engine. The presets have plenty of bread & butter timbres that aren't anywhere near as demanding.

I try not to knock anyone's hustle unless I perceive it to be harmful to others. If you're referring to 4Pockets, I don't recall any moral arguments. It seemed to me to be about his price acrobatics being boring, fatiguing, and spam-like because of their frequency.

For gosh darn sake, the whole purpose of this thread is to pay devs as little as possible, after all.

    That's a rather cynical view.

And we’re still weighing the correctness of a bouncing $2 price change while we do that. Doesn’t feel fair.

Again, the endless rotation of unremarkable price changes is what bugs some people. Others don't mind or have become numb to it. Sales, discounts, and special offers are commonplace in competitive markets, but sometimes it's just noise. It doesn't seem fair to try to shame people for looking for a better deal, but that happens here, too.

I guess I should have used the irony/sarcasm font.

  • Ooooo 26 new comments since I last looked only a few hours ago, must be a really big sale, how exciting!! ......Nope just a load of old men pontificating! ;)

Not really… the random preset are just names, probably generated by a random generator but not available in the app. Otherwise, it is a GREAT app

I saw this in the manual and thought that’s what it was saying.see 3.6

Interesting, that manual is v1.12, current app is v1.11, and the in-app manual doesn’t have that section. Wonder if it’s coming in the next version? There’s no dice icon in the header bar here.
