Yeah I would guess 20 to 25 bucks max, and doubt many would buy it at a higher price.
I feel better to buy a synth if I can try it for free , not to buy a « cat in a bag » ( as we say in Belgium) and unlock with IAP.
Tangentially related: does the absence of sidechain input on instruments (e.g. Twin 3) have to do with hosts not implementing it or is it just not in the AUv3 standard?
It's a host issue as no iHost (as far as I know) allows audio routing to an instrument track...
...all AUv3 that require audio-input have to be hosted in an 'effect slot'.
Despite what some believe this IS most likely one of the reasons why many big-names stay away from iOS/iPadOS.
Their stuff is made for 'Heavy Duty DAW Use' not 'jam-sessions' and without a real work-horse DAW there's really no point.
Cheers!
It does sound great and it’s pretty fun to play with but it’s a bit limited in what it can do. I guess it’s supposed to be an easy synth though so that fits
tried it on desktop. boringggggg. Same old shit, with a "battery" slider, however they did not execute the voltage drop very well. Besides that and the speaker emulation, which is basically just a filter, this thing is just any other synth.
Ease of use is really the biggest selling point, IMO. Compared to most other available offerings, it’s a bit overpriced on desktop (I refer to Cherry Audio synths as my point of comparison).
Baby Audio GUI are always designed this way , limited but the surprise is in the box like wonderful reverb, sounds effect , try their free PitchDrift or their free magic Dice it is their spirit, their Signature.
I paid their high price for their Crystalline app for that , and it was my best buy of the year.
So my question is , this time what will make this synth so special , so unique as the other iOS apps of Baby Audio ?
Yeah Cherry Audio is doing everything right with what they offer, I’ve been obsessed with their stuff. They do a great job at emulating Moog stuff and I compared the space echo with others and was really surprised at how well it held up against some of the more expensive ones
Exactly what I was assuming about the synth upon reveal. It's basically "What can this synth do that other synths combined with effects can't do?"
If it is to do like others why Baby Audio did a synth ?
Why don't you download their trial desktop version and then make a judgement?
Disappointed in an emulation coming from them. They are experts at modernization and extreme streamlining for ease of use while maintaining considerable depth.
Have you tried their desktop trial version (macOS or Windows)? Give it a shot.
They're doing this because they believe there's an audience willing to pay for their efforts, no different from anyone else. If it finds an audience, then good for them.
I don't own a desktop/laptop. Just iPad and iPhone.
Me too I got only Logic Pro X on my Macbook AIR M1 and I use only Logic Pro x with zero VST
. My choice was not to buy or have any VST on it so no way to download a test demo VST, or any VST.
Got it, thanks for clarifying, it's still odd that we haven't seen it implemented in AUM or Drambo (mentioning those two since UI-wise they seem to be ready for it). Although maybe not that add since there hadn't been a reference implementation to test with before Twin 3.
Ah. Got it. I was there myself for a year with an iPad Pro only. They’re great, but sometimes a laptop or desktop are really needed.
A joke of a synth tbh. Just tried demo on desktop
I’d be fine with this model. Maybe only the ability to play with presets or something on the demo version. Or you can change parameters but can’t save presets.
There’s also the Sugar Bytes was of giving you everything except patch saving and AU so you can fully demo everything the app can do.
With that kind of thinking, why would any dev make another synth period? I think every app offers a sound and workflow all its own, it’s just up to use to decide if it adds any value to our setup or not.
That's true, but all I could afford is a cheaper Windows laptop, and Windows is not my friend. 😂 So that's a "no thank you sir".
Yep I do everything on my iPad Pro.
The CS01> @Samu said:
The Power Off function would be incredibly neat here.
The CS01 was the first synth I ever bought and if the emulation feels close enough I’ll not be able to resist this.
It’s very close to the PS-3 as well but ‘tremolo’ (ie. LFO to Amplitude) is missing.
Sure the PS-3 is a ‘preset keyboard’ where the presets use either vibrato, tremolo or both and some sounds have a basic filter envelope in either low-pass or high-pass mode.
As mentioned I would have liked to see inverse envelope modulation of the filter and ‘gate mode’ for the amp envelope. Who knows maybe they’ll tweak it further but I feel they will save it for BA-2…
I’m actually thinking of getting a cheap surface pro to run a few desktop only VSTs. I’ve seen it used to pretty good effect before. I’m also iPhone/iPad only and don’t usually find myself yearning for anything else, but it would be nice to have on occasion.
I kinda like being iPad only at times, though. Idk how else to explain it other than I feel at home there 😂 cringe alert 🚨
I fired up GarageBand for the first time on my work MacBook this week, just to try the twin 3 demo.
Twin 3 was awesome, but using a mouse was all clicky and horrible! And I felt like I was at work!
My iPad felt like hardware in comparison. I’m definitely not switching until MacBooks are touch screen at the least!
In my opinion, in the future it is possible that MacBooks will be touch screen but at what price , no cheap for sure. But it will not a small change , new OS , need to redesign all big softwares and VST , change the GUI big challenge for dev and you will need to pay extra software price for that.
An other alternative will for Apple to go for a new OS ( end of iOS ) for IPAD with a 15 inch IPAD. High price target ?
To know the future we need to look to OS evolution.
Fabfilter was made for desktops software their main market. Personally I got no problems with fabfilter on IPad as I use the Apple Pencil to use their software when it is needed.
At the rate technology progresses it’s really anyone’s guess. I’d pay for an iPad with MacBook levels of functionality but I don’t see apple eating away at their own markets any time soon.
Agreed. Wish apple would just get over themselves and make the iPad Pro an actual pro device with MacBook functionality.
Can people stop saying “work flow” at some point. This place is so big on using minor business buzz words like “toolbox”.
Oh with this in my toolbox my workflow will be unstoppable
Lush lush lush lush it’s so lush
Cut it out!
