I’ve tried to reproduce this issue. Internal mic -> Borderlands IAA effect -> Speaker. Ran in it background for an hour, no problem.

    Hi thanks for trying.
    It crashes here.
Did you also turn on the rec in Borderland. For instance use the program file ‘movement.’ 9it is file that comes with Borderland)

If it runs with no problem on your ipad, then what is it that it constantly crashing here?

    Cheers, Marc

What do you mean by crash?

Maybe you could make a screen recording of the minimal setup that causes the problem. There may be an important element that would be evident if there were a video .

  • It crashes in the sense that AUM looses contact with the input and the only way to get it working again is killing AUM and restart.
I will try to make a screen recording

    Thanks

I have a screen recording, I have to find out how to post that

Uploading to youtube as unlisted and posting a link is probably the best way.

Is the preferred buffer in Borderlands set to the same buffer size as AUM?

    Ok, I will do that.

Yes the buffer and the sample freq is set the same (48khz and 256 buffer)

  • Hey @Marcvv I've been having the same problems randomly with IAA in AUM for a while. I can’t do a screen recording now but I basically have it using PaulXStretch and Fieldscaper in AUM, and I use no hardware. 10-15 minutes into a session an IAA app may randomly crash emitting feedback and has to be reloaded to work again. I’m using iPhone 13 on latest software.

    sounds very similar

  • @j_liljedahl: i have been able to reproduce the issue a couple of times but not at will.when i go back to AUM, the hardware input (the internal mic) is no longer available.

That’s exactly what it looks like for me as well but instead of the mic it’s the IAA node that crashes

Yes, that happens to me as well. These screenshots were a test setup. In my setup it would loose connection with the audio interface.

This is the screen recording. The sound is what the mic picks up and feeds to Borderland. Borderland is running the file 'movement' which is a file in recording mode.

Since we can’t see how borderlands is set up (the screen recording doesn’t start with the borderlands setup ), does this happen if you only one active rec input active? Or is more involved?

All that is active is visible. Borderland is set up as in the screenshot above and then running the file 'movement'.

What do you mean by the file 'movement'? Is that the name of a scene? I don't see a scene with that name in Borderlands. It might be helpful to see the Borderlands is in before you switch to AUM.

It is one of Borderland tutorial files. It is in the app.
I will see if I can make a screen shot.

Sorry, my bad, ☺️ the file is called ‘input’ and it is located under Borderland examples.

From that screenshot it looks like you’re running Audiobus as well?

The mic input disappearing like this is clearly an iOS bug. AUM simply lists any hardware inputs reported by the system. Have you disabled Siri? I know Siri can interfere with audio apps in some recent iOS versions.

This is something else, and simply means that the IAA app crashed. Either because it has a crashing bug, or that iOS kicks it out because it’s using too much RAM or other resources.

Yes in that example I did as it was aworkaround that seemed to work. It does nog on my ipad pro with IOS16.6.1. It does help on my Ipad air with IOS 12. In the later exam-les and in the screenrecording Audiobus is not there.

Thanks for your reply @j_liljedahl yea resources might be the issue then

Yes I have disabled anything related with Siri.
If this is an IOS bug, does that mean I just have to wait till apple solves this?
It is also a mystery to me that some report that it works fine…

    Thanks

  • I just tried the same thing with Loopy Pro with the same result.

It must be an OS bug.

Well, that would be bad news.

  • Have you tried turning off mic access in Borderlands?
It still records in the AUM fx slot from the AUM mic with mic access turned off.

It may be the apps are fighting over the device mic when you switch between apps. See if turning off mic access in Borderlands settings helps.

I built your example with iPad mic input, Blackhole and Borderlands in the FX slot. I didn’t time the first session, but it ran for about 10-15 minutes, no crashes. I redid the session from scratch and let it run for 40+ minutes, no crashes.

How do you turn off mic acces in Borderland and stil record in AUM?

In the Settings app, scroll down to find Borderlands and turn off mic access there. Make sure you start the Borderlands after changing it so the setting takes effect. Then just do the usual, start AUM, start Borderlands, load up the stuff in the AUM channel, and hopefully it won’t crash for you.

If you are asking technically how is this possible, Borderlands needs to use the IAA input when loaded as Borderlands filter in the FX slot, so technically doesn’t use the mic. Mic access is needed in standalone for sure, though.

I tried that same set up and it has been already stable and working for an hour. I will try more later
