There is a new update v1.5 for the desktop edition, an FX strip, and the new preset navigation system. 🤩 I hope they will update the iOS version too.
What’s new in BA-1 v1.5
BA-1 v1. 5 is a free update for all owners of BA-1. Download it by following the links in your order email.
✱ New Effect Plugin - BA-1 FX Strip: BA-1 isn’t just an analog modeled synthesizer. It also offers a meticulously modeled FX section, based on budget 1980s rack effects. Users have been asking for a standalone edition of BA-1’s effects chain since the early days and here it is! Use the FX Strip to run any audio through BA-1’s virtual circuits and add 80s-flavored drive, filtering, delay, reverb, chorus – and even BA-1’s speaker simulator.
✱ Arpeggiator: Arpeggiators were an essential ingredient in the synth sounds of the 80s. For BA-1 v1.5, we’ve added a hands-on, hardware-style arpeggiator with three modes (up, down, up/down) and a three octave range. The arp allows for un-syncing from the host tempo for more authentic (i.e. slightly out of time!) effects.
✱ Flexible Chorus parameter: The original BA-1 offered a simple on/off chorus effect, reminiscent of the Junos and other classic 80s synths. In v1.5, the chorus can now be set anywhere between 0% and 100% for more creative flexibility.
✱ Easter eggs: The colored dots between BA-1’s segments reveal some new additional synth parameters when clicked. LFO fade adds ramp time to the modulation wave that gradually (or abruptly) fades up to its set frequency for a more unpredictable LFO effect. Chaos introduces nonlinear behavior in the reverb and chorus algorithms for dissonance and unpredictable pitch glides.
✱ Improved preset browser: BA-1’s preset manager has a vastly improved workflow in v1.5. Search presets by name, filter by pack, or mark patches with color-coded tags to remember them. You can easily import packs, create your own or browse the available BA-1 Expansions to add more sounds to your synth.
✱ New UI theme: See BA-1 from a fresh perspective with the new black and red UI theme.
I want that black and red theme… those are our band colors and this along with Tera Pro have been the synths we’ve used the most the past few months
Yeah, the black-red theme is looking cool! 😎 The FX strip is phenomenal news!
Hey all, yes, we plan to have this update for iOS around April. We're working on it! Thanks for supporting our plugins
Yay!!! I absolutely love BA-1 … my newer music wouldn’t exist without it
That's amazing news! Can't wait to buy Atoms. Will Atoms be ported to iPhone like BA-1 is? Me and @Fear2Stop and a couple others are iPhone-only users. 😅
Atoms will come eventually, yes
Nice!
Thank you so much. That's fantastic news. Looking forward to April.
@tristan Great news and what a lovely gesture to make the strip available standalone!
Will the improved preset browser also include being able to scroll the preset list without selecting the touched preset like Taip?
The fx strip is not included on the ipad version?
As far as I can tell they're exactly the same except for some details handling presets.
I can’t find FX strip anywhere, I even reinstalled the app.
Are you able to load the fx strip as a separate AUv3?
I think we are cut off from the FX strip. 😳
Oh bummer
New UI theme and preset handling are great! Less squinting!
I like the Chaos slider. It adds some nice unstable analog character to the sound.
It's definitely on the right track but we can't do packs and thus not share to desktop, hopefully it's just an oversight. You can share from desktop but they will all end up in the User folder which can't even be renamed as of now i.e there can be only one(1) user folder. Again, hopefully this will be fixed.
I had totally missed you could do that on desktop so I was mistaken earlier, apologies ..
No worries. Thanks for checking.
I've downloaded packs which I assume were made for desktop and they have their own folders. Can't go the other way though right now though it seems.
Where can those packs be found at?
They sell them at their website but hopefully there will be free ones once we can create them, I will release free presets as I usually do (when I do) when abled to. I've been really hoping (and nagging) for Transit(iOS) to get this functionality, as it is now you can't even save one preset of your own in Transit(iOS). It's really strange in my opinion that this issue keeps popin up in various formats.
Yeah, I meant your own desktop created presets, if you do a pack of them and name them they will still end up in the user folder on iOS.
I was wrong - everything I’ve found and installed is in the User folder. That is a bit annoying.
Oh, yeah that's definitely not right @tristan
I keep wanting to buy this but i have so many synths that are sitting around collecting dust already 🤣 torn!
Maybe I’ll settle my aas by grabbing taip or crystalline…
If you rename a xx.baby bank to xx.zip you can unzip the bank. This should also work the other way round, zip to baby.
Nevertheless: all presets end up in the user folder. I also hope for an update soon.
This is super simple and usable, and always manage to sound good
