Well, everyone seems to like a summer blockbuster, but this forum seems to like a plucky underdog as well if they're willing to pay attention and keep swinging. You might be right about the thread, but as for the app, we'll see....
@touchconspiracy it's not a competition m'man - I'm not sure anyone is anticipating Attack more than me but there's room for more than one dominant Highlander-esque iOS percussion means. I love Gadget's London but it doesn't harm Caustic's Beatbox which doesn't shadow the glorious SeekBeats and so on.
@Musikman4Christ you're so right: @Samu the FingerBeat developer Needs your input and you make great points / questions in general.
I sent my first round of Basics feedback (Screen Orientation issue, non-global Mute and Solo request, Quantize Grid request, Note Repeat request, Import options request) but Samu has brought up an entirely different set of topics.
FingerBeat won't be for everyone but it's under my skin in a big way now.
Gosh, I was joking....
@Proppa Thanks, I decided to register and hopefully the app will pop up in test-flight soon...
I will be feeding him with 'everything' i find in the app and hopefully i can come up with some ides that fit the work-flow of the app. (I will be pushing for at least 'Open In...' as one of the import/export options and also that the app will import the sound to the current pad if other apps send a file to it using 'Open In...') This is very basic and super easy to implement.
Other ideas are recording from AB and IAA, and when recording from IAA sources 'wait for input' so we don't have to trim the start of the recorded sound. Also 'basic' trimming and fade in/out of the recorded sound prior to saving. And well, naturally playback of different portions of the sample (meaning if you have a loop in your library you can assign parts of the loop to different pads by selecting a playback portion of the sample).
For export i will push for export pattern or song, and also push for optional 'pre-roll' when exporting a patterns, this would make the loop capture for example a crash-cymbal at the end of the loop and mix it into the beginning of the loop thus creating a seamless loop instead of cutting out the sound at the end of the loop. Other options are naturally include tail...
If all goes well, we might get more 'pads' (like 4x4 or 6x4 grid) to give iMPC a run for its money...
It will indeed be fun to get my fingers on this
Excellent @Samu
One note about the pads: at first I too missed the familiar grid but quickly fell in love with the totally original toy-like layout. You can add more than one "slice" (sound, or pitch of a sound) to each pad: add two variations and a pad slices in half - add four variations and a single pad is quartered. Pads can also be set up as radial velocity where the center of a pad is loudest and edges are softest.
The pad layout is a Really refreshing diversion from the squares.
I tried to sign up for the beta, but I only received MailChimp newsletter subscrption emails and never received a link for TestFlight. What did I do wrong?
When did you sign up? Beta might be coming to a close perhaps?
I signed up too. The 'TestFlight' invitation could take upto 24 hours so I hope I get mine tomorrow
Over 24 hours have passed, no email. Never mind
^^^I don't think so. Waldorf Attack can attack itself AFAIC
@supadom Funny how the quarterback on the bench is always the most popular player on the team
Have you tried Fingerbeat? @JohnnyGoodyear
I presume you have.
You see, I've gone through the gold rush phase in the first year on this forum. Now I either buy stuff that I need, stuff that gets me because of the sound or because I won't to support the developer. Nothing to do with trying to save money or being mr. Antisocial or grumpy. If Attack is what you like, please enjoy it I'm sure it will bring you plenty of joy. Don't mind me.
PS, I hope this isn't viewed as "grumpy" but basically this proposed beta signup harvested my email address, doesn't allow me to remove my email address from their MailChimp database, and has delivered nothing to me. I'm not saying it's an email harvesting scheme, but I'm saying that you don't come into a community like this, throw around beta invitations, and then just take emails for your marketing team. Finally, putting me on a MailChimp list and not giving me a way to opt out of that later is a violation of MailChimp TOS, and terribly bad form.
At lest in the mail I got there is still options to manage mail-chimp and terminate subscription if needed.
I'll give the guys their 24 hours (which is 10am tomorrow Saturday Swedish Time).
I know that TestFlight sometimes takes time to publish the app...
@Uncledig Don't dispute your anguish, but can confirm it took a couple of days for the textflight thingie to turn up in my mailbox.
Yep, as mentioned upthread. I imagine it might be in your fun area, unless it's isn't upto snuff for the live playing you need. I like what I've managed to make sense of with it so far, but am aware I'm not making the most of it yet.
In case you were referring to Attack (was/am confused by your two notes), I did pick it up. My life is a gold rush, I'm afraid. Even if it's penniless a lot of the time
It was do that with my Friday night or put in some hard work on the lyrics/singing for SOTMC.
No brainer.
Testing and contributing to Fingerbeat will be loads of fun, remains to be seen how responsive the developer is
Seen a couple of updates already in a short time, so they're certainly at work. May it continue.
The developer wrote me not too long ago and said to keep the feedback coming and not to be be put off by delays in feature implementation. It sounded like all requests would be considered at the least and that's as promising as I could hope for an app I already love in it's early era.
Found a way to get to the manage preferences link and unsubscribe. Thanks guys.
Got my testflight invite this morning, so uhm it is a thing still...
I got mine too, time to start testingflighting FingerBeat
Congratulations Samu, I am very sure that you will bring them a highly valued asset.
The first e-mail is about to be sent. I've had a 2 hours of brain-storming and fingering with the App...
I'll paste the ideas here so you can have a peak too...
I'm pretty sure i will come up with many more after more 'fingering'
Damned! (In a very, very good way).
The more I use this app the more I 'fall for it'
The tape-recorder is cool for capturing sounds. It could use 'auto-markers' to make extraction of recorded parts easier for further trimming when that becomes available
I'm using Open In from Audioshare, so that's already implemented, right?
Nicely done. I was hoping you would get the beta. Good suggestions/workboard for them.
@rhcball Yepp, sending files to FingerBeat works but getting sounds out from FingerBeat would still be well serviced with 'Open In...' to send export back for example AudioShare. For me the App crashes hard when trying to do 'System Share' (where i presume 'Open In...' would live).
Importing via 'Open In...' also replaces the current 'tape' without warning instead of just leaving the file in the InBox?
I've barely spent like ~4 hours with the app so there is still things to discover
Yeah I got the same crash.
