  • Any thoughts on Auroras GORILLA vs MAMMOTH?

I have Mammoth and find the sound is good, but I have to do fiddling… and it feels like a lot more fiddling than i do with Rhino

    YMMV

Personally I feel like the mammoth would win. However, I'm actually not really sure what the motivation would be for them to fight in the first place, or even where they would meet.

For the sake of the conversation though, let's assume the mammoth is near the jungle ... depicting a scenario in which the gorilla has travelled by sea or land mass connected by ice feels further down the rabbit hole, while a wandering Mammoth gone astray and guided by years of evasion to the edges of some jungle is at least entertainingly passive-aggressive with mind.

Perhaps then the Mammoth has brushed against the gorillas favorite banana tree, bringing a rain of ripe juicy bananas. The gorilla is an outcast, pride roughed asunder through a trial loss with the big cheese, and now finding motivation to teach this massive obtuse animal that has no business being there a lesson ... more, this rare opportunity to regain self-image, reimpose will, demand acceptance of his right to belong.

He readies a reasonably sharp and broken, but thick, branch, deftly scales into the trees while plotting his approach, feels the ache of loneliness for a moment, knowing he must do this alone ...

Yeah, ultimately I'm out of time and we say the Mammoth falls on him somewhere at the end of a long and exhilarating battle out of utter exhaustion.

I should add that I am not a subject matter expert here and it would be worth consulting a professional.

  • I'm also not sure where the rhino plays into this.

  • Folks, this scenario takes place in a future arena with genetically engineered animals battling for bitcoin.

Mammoth makes everything sound like NIN.

I like Gorilla better personally. It’s punchier and has more thump. Feels more geared towards a clean sound.

I had a lot of fun with splitting a signal using one of the FAC apps that is multi bus out (Medusa maybe?). Route the lower signal to Gorilla and the low-mid to Mammoth. Do some panning with some blending and you’ve got a heavy sound.

With a statement like that, you might as well just reach into my pocket and take my money. This is practically a mugging!

I'm only wary because I haven't been thrilled with Banshee Nano. In theory it covers the LA2A/1176 combo, but a) it's a little glitchy with graphics and things, and 2) it adds a permanent reverb I can't seem to get rid of. I replaced it with another combo that works pretty well, but wouldn't like to have a similar experience with other apps.

Ah that's cool. Audiority finally on iOS. I know it's been expected for some time. More to come I guess, and hope.

Go for their more recent offering as I said earlier. The most recent stuff is the
Laney Amps. The guitar Laney is have and it’s excellent.

I think it’s the included ir that are much superior.

Take care. It's an old-timey synth forum meme, not good advice.

Edit: That said, I do enjoy throwing Mammoth on stuff to see what happens. Not surprisingly, it sounds like it's running through a bass cab. Takes work to not sound like ass with non-bass material. No shock there.

Mammoth is actually really great on synths too. To give them thump, Controlled distortion and sizzle. Gorilla is really good for a real Bass and stylewise universal. If you’ll use it with a ebass buy Gorilla. It packs a mean punch and also has Great distortion and it’s Overall the more complete Bass Suite. Mammoth = NIN = True. And it sounds just sooooo cool
