  • Haha, also caught Flaming Lips recently and recognize a lotta the same stage stuff from mine (YA YA YA YA!). Not to put any of it down, was a blast, but pales in comparison to the Lips show I used to go to. Missed the 20 or so people in animal costumes dancing on stage, the giant gong, hell… Wayne didn’t even crowdsurf in his giant inflated gerbil ball (a staple of every Lips show I’d been to). I guess we’re all just getting old (I saw primus recently too and while great I missed all the bopping around on stage that Les used to do) and I guess we can’t keep the crazy knob turned to 11 and broken off. Sorry for the rant. Stay weird!

  • Was at the Festival d'Été de Québec the 2 last weeks, the shows I liked were Thundercat (albeit a bit too complex for me), Sax Machine (looping with rapper, real good), Men I Trust (went in there with no expectations and was blown away), Corridor (stoner rock with a more dreamy touch sometimes, always go to see them when they play near) and Bob Sinclar (the guy killed it, love some French Touch). Also saw the Pixies and The Cat Empire which were quite good.

I also purchased some tickets today to go see Patche for the 2nd time. I truly love them. They are basically 2 guys on modular synths, 1 on a heavily modified harmonica and launching clips and stuff, 1 bassist and 1 drummer. Their sound draws heavily from krautrock, techno, and ambient music and their approach involves deconstructing improvisations and reassembling them into multi-layered instrumental pieces. They always keep a good groove and are very danceable. Real fun! They might be my favorite band to see live!!

Caught Gary Newman and Frontline Assembly at a small Venue “Pappy and Harriet’s” in pioneer town California, next is “Urban Heat” in hollywood

Oh, man. Always wanted to see Gary Numan live. Good show?

Fantastic Show Much Heavier and Darker than I had expected even the performances of the older material! I was an outlying appreciator of his work now I am all in. the venue was also very intimate 👍

  • Will see (in the dark??) Autechre in October. It sold out in minutes so really pleased I got a ticket.

I saw the Flaming Lips a couple of weeks ago after wanting to see them for more than 20 years. I wouldn't have expected the mass of stuff on stage for a show abroad, it was massive and I felt like a child at the theme park for the first time.

I saw them maybe a decade ago and they put on quite a show. It looks like they made it even more immersive then it was back then.

Sounds like a great couple weeks.

Thundercat is a beast on the bass. I really like his stuff, especially Apocalypse, the following EP (forget name) and Drunk. There’s a song called “Them Changes” that seems to become a permanent ear worm after one listen, lol.

I’m gonna have to check out Corridor, not familiar with that outfit. Cheers!

  • Saw Queens of the Stone Age several months back. Killer show.

    Red Kross is still touring?

  • Uk tour next month, then one of the dudes playing in the melvins. Age ain’t slowing those guys at all.

Yeah, Them Changes get stuck so easily in my head! This and Funny Thing were really great live moments. But some earlier parts of the show were too much of jazzy improv where everybody tries to play more notes faster than his peer 😅 But all in all, I'm glad to have been there!

Corridor is a band from Montreal. I find that they shine more live than on their albums, their music being conducive to some jamming which you hear less on the albums. They are the first francophone band signed to Sub Pop (Nirvana, Soundgarden, ...).

What a pic! And alanis with the leather pants? HUBBA HUBBA (90s kid, had a big ol crush on her 😍)

  • @Squishy in the 90s her radio dominance put me right off her. My Mrs is a big fan, so over the years she wore me down with a catalogue of great material. I missed her gig here cos I was at Doof in the Park. It was a great day out so I’m not too fussed.

  • Today I'm catching a Bob Segar and Bruce Springsteen tribute band called Sons of Chicago! I'm already loving this outdoor venue, and in 15 minutes, they will begin!

It’s one of those things that just seems to go together - outdoor venues and tribute bands. Caught a few over the years, and it’s just nice to enjoy a beer or three outdoors in the summer while taking in a band.

Just saw this now, lol! Cheers mate! Having a blast!

  • Sons of Chicago were baller af! They sang the songs of Bob Seger and Bruce Springsteen with heart and passion! Top blokes!

  • Just got back from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They had an orchestra. It. Was. Bananas.

Yes, this definitely. Summertime Americana at it’s finest.
For you midwesterners, I was in Champaign IL over the weekend to see a friend and she took me around and introduced me to music venues and restaurants etc.
They have “Friday Night Live” in the summer with bands set up all over.
All very fun but the gem was Candy Foster. 86 year old dude belting it out like he was 25. A crack band to back him up too. Big fun!
