Still working good with the new 17 Pro telephoto.
All great shots - what film type are you using?
Super stuff!
thx! most of the time daylight or balanced. Every now and then I use the low-light one, and sometimes the higher contrast B/W one
Still green here in the north (58.5877° N) but only 13 degrees. Nice day.

So if you select the XP4N option to 'enable 48MP wide angle lens', does it use 48MP for all three lenses on the 17 Pro?
Thanks,
Lee

Sadly no, it still uses 6MP for the ultrawide and tele lenses. I'd love to see that too though.
Would it be possible to update the app so it can be triggered by the Camera Control (button) on the new iPhones?
Loving the app!
I wonder if Bram could comment on how much work is involved to support all 48MP lenses on the 16/17 Pro?
This thread never ceases to amaze me
It shows $1.99 now but totally worth it
Sounds like it's more a limitation of the Apple camera API than something the developers can fix. Even the Leica Lux camera folks were saying there's nothing they can do until Apple gives them the option to use higher resolution.
I didn't know about the Leica Lux app, thanks for mentioning it. I'm on the free trial to test it out. It's a totally different vibe to XP4N, but interesting. The best thing about it is the way you can revisit all the options after the fact, and change the film stock, the frame size, the lens and the DOF, really cool. The price is ridiculous though, of course, because it's Leica 😅
I still much prefer XP4N, both for the wide format and for the beautiful dramatic BW film look.
Fake bokeh on a non-challenging subject:
I don’t see the Leica Lux benefits you’re saying, there are plenty of other camera apps with similar and better features. This one is only a darn Leica LUT for a 75€/year sub. 🤦♂️ Image quality is what you can expect from a smartphone camera. I agree that XP4N is sexier and has better LUTs. 😌
It's definitely not worth the price they are charging, I would go so far as to say the price is insane 😅 But the app is nice to use, and I do like the way the post-processing is implemented - you can change all the settings right there in the app (which you can't do as easily with XP4N for instance).
Image quality is of course determined by the hardware, and I'm using an iPhone 12 Pro Max which is pretty old by now, but even a newer phone is not going to compete with cameras that have bigger sensors and better optics. Like you say, Leica are trading on their brand name but this is just a fun app, not a replacement for an actual Leica.
I would like to test the app under better lighting conditions, I've taken some dramatic shots with XP4N but when I was out this morning the weather was wet and overcast, so no dramatic backlighting to be had.
I'm fortunate that for the last 9 months the Leica Q3 43 has been my camera for 98% of all of my photography. So I'm already pretty used to the way Leica does camera/lens controls and their library software. Also, the vast majority of what I do is B&W, and I like the Leica high contrast black and white default better than Apple's. So for me the Lux app makes sense, but I totally see why it's super overkill for most people. The default free functionality is nice too if you don't like the Apple Camera app.
Still, XP4N is my second most used app still. It's just so much fun working in that aspect ratio, one which Leica doesn't do.

The Cadrage Director’s Viewfinder app is cool 😎
You can set it to emulate various film & still cameras, select a lens kit and anamorphic if you like. Use LUT presets or customize your own. View all meta data and shoot either stills or video for all kinds of cinematic looks.
It’s more fiddly than XPAN and most of the time I prefer XPAN, but Cadrage is impressive.
It’s also $20. I didn’t pay that for it, as I’ve had it a long time, but if that level of control for cinematic looks is your jam, I’d say it’s well worth the $20

PS: it’s set up by default to display all of the details of the setup in the image, since it’s intension is for using it as a directors viewfinder to sort out how you want scenes shot before you’re on set. But, you can turn off all the setup display text in the settings if you just want the images without details displayed. And, you can still see all of the setup info in the metadata if you want
Thanks, giving it a look!
