@AnalogMatthew I was hoping you could add more ninjas. And ideally the ninjas would travel to other app icons until every app has a ninja. Is that possible?
Thanks, I'm looking into this!
I like the Ninja. ‘Sayin.
Can we get a Microsoft "Clippy" variation of the characters? 😂
Bonus points if the synth font also changes to Comic Sans.
It looks so lifeless without our little friend 😭
I didn't mind the ninja character, but I actually prefer the serious and professional look of the app without it.
Thank you @AnalogMatthew for your awesome work and dedication!
Cool icon!
Is there a way to change the skin on the synth? I like the Bluish skin in the video.
Oh sweet, thanks!
Those 6 hours plus extra whatnot will feel like a breeze after you been washed over by all the love for it. Jokes aside though, huge thanks!!
@AnalogMatthew . I've noticed a minor GUI bug. It is possible to adjust the envelopes graphically by touching the graphs. But there is some mixup in scaling between the knobs and the graph. If I touch the edge of the Decay graph and move it slightly, the knob jumps to a smaller value, which is reflected in the sound. But the graph does not change. Touching the knob then causes the graph to jump to a position matching the knob.
I've been getting a lot of usage from the little red circle button. Sure I can record short little Viral samples in AUM, but to be able to do it right in the synth makes things so much easier especially when you just need to record a little snippet to send on over to Borderlands Granular and/or Paulstretch.
The new presets sound fantastic
Next Update is major. As promised, I've been working on the AudioKit AUv3 engine the past few weeks.
AUv3 Engine Overhaul
GarageBand Support:
• Totally rebuilt for GarageBand. Sessions feel solid!
• Snapshots recall exactly as saved. Every time.
• Big memory win per instance.
• Zero memory creep on reloads. In fact, reloading a project now uses less memory than the original load.
• Real numbers: a project with 2 instances loaded twice used ~960 MB before; now ~180 MB. A third reload used to jump to ~1.3 GB; now still ~180 MB.
• Performance in GB jumps from a rough Grade D to a confident Grade A.
• Heads-up: Viral Synth is a serious instrument built for modern iPads. For best results, run fewer instances than lighter apps.
Other Host Improvements.
• Rock-solid when switching presets while receiving MIDI in Loopy Pro, GB, and others. No more preset switching crashes in Loopy Pro!
• Groove Rider loads faster and handles multiple loads without crashing. Older iPads may still see occasional hiccups, but crashes are dramatically reduced.
• About 40% memory savings per instance across all AUv3 hosts. 3 instances now use roughly what 2 did before.
Viral Synth Specific:
• Standalone: Fixed a crash when attaching or removing Bluetooth headphones.
• Touch Pad now snaps back to the correct values.
• Added a 3rd hidden icon in the app icon Easter egg, have you found the Easter Egg?!
• Toggle to remove the Ninja from the app and app icon (on about page)
• Toggle to lock the bottom panel. On iPad, the bottom panel stays put even if you tap the top navigation buttons repeatedly.
• ADSR envelope graphics now move in real time with MIDI control
• Too many more updates to mention...
Adding these improvements to the other AudioKit apps now!
More Loopy Pro improvements are coming. As some of you probably have experienced, a few project reloads can crash all the AudioKit apps. I have reached out to Michael with some possible solutions. In the meantime, if you need to reload a project w/ AudioKit apps, restart Loopy Pro each time to keep things stable.
😮
The skin in the video is exactly the same as the skin in the app. 😂 The video just had better lighting. Pro tip: play during the day and turn on the lamp above you and boom: Bluish mode unlocked
No filters or video fx in the video, it's the same skin, promise.
Good eye! There are some fixes addressing the ADSR UI to knob connection in the next update.
Also worth noting: the envelopes live in exponential land, not linear. So a “halfway” move on the graph won’t always equal a 50% knob value, that’s by design for musical feel. But, there absolutely was some UI stuff in the envelopes that needed fixing 👍
Thanks @AnalogMatthew ! Your apps are among my favorite musical instruments on the iPad. King of FM is the first thing I add to a new loopy pro project.
That’s quite an update 😊
@AnalogMatthew : Of course I bought it !lol Great job. Any chance of this being equally optimized for Logic Pro for iPad?
@AnalogMatthew
Whoot! X/y snap works like a charm! Thanks Homie!
@AnalogMatthew Will your synths ever have an added MacOS compatibility?
Awesome! I was wondering why it kept crashing in GarageBand; as I was gifted an A16 iPad a couple of months ago I didn’t think it was my device … glad to know it’s been resolved !
Edit
Yo this is SO much better … NOW I can leave a 5 star review !!!
My friend, you have knocked it out of the ballpark this year . Really past three years but even more so now .
Actually @AnalogMatthew its worse now…when I export a song in GB, the viral track is silent . If I try to merge it with anything (even itself) the sound defaults back to the default preset.
Device is iPad a16. Did the same thing if I converted it to Logic .
I hope so. It would be fantastic.
Hmmm, yah I seem to get issues running multiple instances in BM3. Anything above two or three and they start stealing voices from each other.
Having the same problem here. Got a finished track in Logic with two instances of Viral in but I can't export it as every time I do both Viral instances revert to the "80s Guitar 303" preset and the track sounds truly horrific.
@AnalogMatthew When I try to load Viral into Audio Evolution Mobile Studio I get the message “Error opening AUv3 instrument”. I also tried J6, King of Bass, Nerd Synth in the same project and got no audio on export although they played back as expected. Replacing those synths with Poison, June and Sunrizer worked as expected including export.
I stupidly just opened a completed project to make a tiny tweak and lost all the sound design I'd put into the Viral tracks. Also found what I think is another bug, in that it seems to be impossible to have an LFO run for 8 bars in sync with the host. "Restart", "Trigger", "ArpShot" and "One-shot" all restart the LFO when a note is played, and "Free" ignores the host's play position.
Now I'm off to sob while trying to recreate the sounds I'd made in a different synth.
FWIW, I have two channels on my latest cover with Viral AUv3, and when rendering to a wav.-file in Roland Zenbeats for testing they turn out as they should, no reverting to other patches. It’s two presets however, with no tweaking done and saved inside Viral.
I’ll keep an eye open for any…. behavioral oddities. Viral sounds damned good in a mix, I really hope @AnalogMatthew can sort this out.
