If you do not already own this sequencer, it’s really a core/must have imo.

As far as mission critical apps go- OCTACHRON is at the very top of the list.
Even if you have a dope drum sampler that has a decent sequencer (hammerhead, pure acid) you can still incorporate those into OCTACHRON. It might be the most important and overlooked sequencer in my arsenal.

DM-10 is a bit resource heavy and still not quite as streamlined as Octachron on a DAW. DM10 is great as a sequencer, fantastic as a sound module, and a fantastic groove box - especially standalone. Octachron is an excellent sequencer and that’s all it does so nothing gets in the way of sequencing.

Why would a MIDI sequencer be limited to a single genre when it simply translates musical ideas into programmable data and can shape melodies, rhythms, and textures for any style you choose?

  • I'm more of a real time player recorder guy. That's why I love Cubasis and Auria Pro. But I enjoy learning other systems. Not real good at programming drums. That's why I use Pop Drummer and Lumbeats apps a lot. So I wonder if this sequencer would fit my style.

You can use Octacron’s Smart Randomize function at any time to spark inspiration and then adjust the result to your needs if required.

It’s there anything particularly smart about it? It seems just random and not really based on any parameters or previous beats unless I’m missing something.

I checked Tal U-NO-LX but it doesn't seem to be on sale.

It was $5 off at $19.99 just a day ago maybe that changed.

Update - i did just double check to confirm and it is still currently at a lower price. The price went up to $29.99 in early September then down to $24.99 in late September, then on October 8th back to $19.99. So I'm not sure if it’s technically a sale, or a developer adjusting pricing.

    Thanks for the clarification.

The question is something everyone has to answer for themselves. Ultimately, it depends on the listener’s ear and the intended genre. Personally, I do not find it particularly smart in a drumming context, as it relies only on the two adjustable parameters density and randomness.
@FizzyLizzy27 gets straight to the point: “Octachron is an excellent sequencer and that’s all it does, so nothing gets in the way of sequencing.“

It does hiphop, it does country, it does electro, it does stoner metal, it even does gospel! 😉 octachron sequences it all, baby!

(Since you have lumbeat stuff, and the genres are also all over the place, start taking note of how each one uses the same sequencer differently when you use them)

Any style. Its a midi sequencer to trigger any thing you like, but great with drums. Its simple and straightforward but with complex details that are easy to adjust. Watch a Tube video showing some of the updates, mutation, randomization, offset, etc…

Y'all go hard for Dagger- I love the way it sounds, but I struggle to get anything other than Aggro Acid Bass sounds- which I'm stocked with already. 🥺

Small knob turns can do a lot in Dagger. Also try the rather new 4-voice paraphonic mode (Chord button). It can do quite nice synth pads as well, with lots of spice on top if you want. Attached a Drambo project showing it.
