  • Fun little Groovebox!

Bram - Any chance you could add a sequencer to cycle thru the memories a la Rosetta Bassline ? i.e. a song mode

  • This is what you call a “stealth attack!”

Shut up and take my money!

Now. Get busy on the hardware version!
C'mon - you know you want to. 😎

  • Oh man, I love that it runs on my embarrassingly old Intel MacBook. Thanks for making that effort @brambos !

@brambos I didn't know you still posted there, nice!

  • Yes, that describes "the lore" and inspiration behind it, and a little glimpse in the design process :)

Happy to hear it works! I don't have an abundance of Mac devices to test on, so it's great to get confirmation! Have fun! <3

By the way, @brambos . :) How've you been doing? Hope life is treating you well.

Thanks J! Had a bit of a rocky time, because it's not the best time to be a freelance automotive designer when the entire automotive industry is in a state of absolute chaos, but I'm happy to say that I've landed nicely and it's all good now. Thanks so much for asking <3

Holy shit this is SO MUCH COOL !! It’s so easy to just get lost in groove forever …

App of the year for me. Endless fun. Thanks !!!

(would love wider sound variety of kicks, snares ,hihats and pers - more different sounds)

  • This type of apps are not my bag but I just wanted to say how I appreciate the effort you put into the wounderful UI. Also in the documentation , it is so concise and clear.

    Great work @brambos

I'm glad things have stabilised. And, I had no idea you are a freelance automotive designer! That's really amazing. :) Any automobiles out there that you worked on? Or is that under an NDA (non-disclosure agreement)?

There’s a graphical glitch where the next and previous buttons show as question marks. Other than that it works great in standalone. I haven’t tried it as a plugin yet, if that’s even possible.

Interesting! Can you tell me what OS version you're using?

Using it as a plugin should work, because the standalone is, in fact, running as a plugin

  • Oh wow! Need more apple credits fast lol 😆

  • Reminds me a bit like Pure Acid but with more synth engines. Great idea combining previous apps. Would love to see one of the samplers in this.

  • Holy cow, what a fun app! It really hits the nail on the head for immediacy. It would be a bargain at twice the price!

With groove box apps I'm always wondering if it can export to .abl or some other DAW format, but the ability to just load up the groove box in a DAW just obviates the question. I know other groove boxes do this too, but in that context I like that this doesn't try to be a plugin host, for example. WYSIWYG in any context.

  • Seems very acid techno in sound, is that fair? Does it have much sonic range?

Man this is a great app. It does a wonderful job of taking a lot of the menotionus leg work out of things, while still providing just the right amount of flexibility and allowing users to get down to what's the best part about making music, the jamming. I'll be using it the next time I'm out for a gig.
    Again, great job!

Certainly a fair observation, because making a minimal techno workstation was the initial kernel of the idea. It does more, but that's what it does best for sure.

  • For those wondering, I loaded up Battlestation in a LP4i project, saved a preset, and then opened the project on my Mac. The preset was active on Mac, but did not show up in user presets or retain the preset name on Mac. Simple fix is to save the preset on Mac and give it the same name when you open the project, but it's something to remember if you plan to use Battlestation in a back-and-forth Logic workflow. FWIW this is more or less expected behavior for an AUv3 operating between Mac and iPad.

Cool, thank you. I’m sure it will make some people very happy :) I’ll stick to mindless droning with Salome and Hilda haha

  • This is very fun to work with. I know this is trying to be as barebones as possible, but I’d still love to pitch the idea of a tap tempo.

& just to confirm: kill kick is momentary & kick mute is a toggle, but they do the same function, yeah?

  • Just watched Jakob’s video and next thing I know I’m hitting the buy button! EDM isn’t something I do very often, but triple Turing machines (with a very clever implementation) pushed all my buttons. This is sooo much fun to play with! And as usual very well thought out for the task in hand.

    hi !
Currently searching for the perfect hardware groovebox for me (Syntakt, Play+, Seqtrack, etc.) ... This is the closest thing to my dream groovestation (rumble !!!,generative, mutation, “DJ” effects, etc.).
(All that's missing is an alt version of my favorite synth, Ruismaker :-) )

What hardware comes closest to this groovestation for you (excluding modular, of course) if exist :-) ?

@Brambos - no response I guess means song mode is not happening...

How about mapping the memories to CCs so you can sequence through them with Mozaic ?

The transpose setting does not get saved in memory. Is that an oversight or was it intentional?

How old we talking here? Legal drinking age old?

  • This little app is very engaging. Lots of fun to play.

  • Loving the idea of the app - I think to get the best out of it you need to be using the multi out option.
I’m getting a very strange response when using Battlestation to play another instrument via midi. I had the Troublemaker hooked up to Pure Acid in AUM but it was an echoey transposed mess coming out.

hey @brambos - I think it'd be great if the mutation chance knob could switch context to the selected drum rather than apply globally. There would be no change to the UI other than that the knob would move when you change context, but the utility would be fantastic. I don't have much use for the current global mutation other than to toss up a (too) random fill.

I love the way you can use per hit mutation chance in XOX, and also how it can add random hits to even a sequence with no steps enabled.
