But I only use windows, I realize you’re all talking about mac
This is standard behaviour for AUv3 on silicon Macs. They work as a sound source but not as midi generators for any DAW other than Logic. Wish Reaper would update to work with midi AUv3 as well but no movement yet.
This is brilliant for getting a crunchy/percussive top layer on techno or house tunes.
My sense of "but I didn't place those notes on a grid!" would probably stop me from using this app for major parts of a track... Same for AI or melodic sample loops. But once you've pushed the whole track through Perforator, Flux Pro etc and some filters and delays... Wow instant rythmic crispy layer for techno tunes. Love it
Fair. It’s pretty much the TR909, the de-facto EDM drums which have been around for 40 years.
But I’ve chosen these for a reason. I wanted to choose a minimal set of analog-style drums to go with as many EDM subgenres as possible and these are the most useful ones by a mile. Bread-and-butter for sure, but also timeless.
If you listen to a Jeff Mills performance he does an entire set using just these sounds and nothing else
I hear what you’re saying though!
I can see your logic but I do agree with Dendy
after a few days playing with this, the limited scope of drum sounds do make things a bit samey
would love to see the Ruismaker FM drums available, and would be happy to pay extra for this
Correct, they are - so that makes sense, thanks.
Use AUM?
Sure, but the idea here is of an integrated, hardware-esque all-in-one groovebox.
Yes and it’s also early days. I’m sure @brambos will do what he feels is reasonable. But it’s nice to have the option to expand on whatever the app ultimately becomes.
It would be cool to see another iteration of this, say with Ruismaker FM, Hilda, a bit of Solderbox, etc… all the greatest hits lol.
Yeah, it's pretty well usable even on an iPhone 12 as a plugin in portrait if the scrolling can be worked out.
Yeah, I'm sure you're right.
Just tossing out a thought - the headers of the modules seem like a safe area to me. You probably already tried that but I thought I'd mention it. Anyway, the scroll buttons are fine.
This exacly.. I don’t like complexity in which you end in AUM as soon as you start adding tracks, routings, stuff - Battlestation is beautiful in iťs simplicity, very inspirative tool for live jamming ..
All Bram’s points are totally valid, this is more like just classic forum brainstorming about “what i would like to be added” .. We like this kind of converstions as much as developers don’t like it 🤣🤣
Anyway, I see here huge potential for improvements (potentially sustainable as working business model with IAPs:), so looking forward at you @brambos with hope that you will enjoy to improve this baby over time here and there
I was actually just trying that. It is the only really safe/unused area of the screen. Works nicely without getting in the way of controls though. So that's going to be in the next update.
Nice! That'll also address the scrolling issue with the buttons in the plugin on iPhone when in portrait. It's more usable and fun than I thought it would be punching up a groove while waiting for the wife to finish shopping. 👏
Love it 😀 yay!
Should've called it "Brambo"! 😉
Congrats on the release! 🎉
Kinda on the fence with this one.. I was initially excited then saw some people referring to NOIR,Phase, and Troublemaker as being like very scaled down versions of the synths, then some comments about the drums being kind of underwhelming and no way to change out kits. I'm already a heavy ShiftBud user - so I have the multiple Turing generators covered. Oh, and one of the other things that kinda jostled my excitement was the inability to arrange the 3 synths in a particular way.. like 3 instances of Phase or 2 instances of Troublemaker and 1 instance of noir. It sounds like you are forced to work with 1x each (which is fine) but dang it'd be a lot cooler if you could customize the synth layout.
Still on the fence, push me one way or the other please.
Within a few minutes tweaking, I’ve got the basis for a new track.
Saved.
A few minutes later, another one.
Saved.
Etc.
Does it for me!
Thx @oldsynthguy
If you feel like you're going to need to take it seriously to be happy with, forget it. If you just feel like having some quick and easy fun, and won't mind if you don't put it to good use, go for it.
This isn't a thing to hope for new features for. It's a thing to just fire up for shits and giggles, and maybe to surprise yourself with some useful output, or maybe not.
ymmv. 😎
I gotcha. That helps, thank you @wim
I routed all the parts to Hammerhead, Pure Acid, Noir, and Twin. I muted, unmuted and transposed parts as I generated bits. Lots of fun and flexible this way if you feel "stifled" by an instant -- barely any work -- groovebox
Is it something you couldn't do with existing tools - even just Brams other apps no
BUT THERE IS SO LITTLE FRICTION im starting to believe in perpetual energy.
I love hammerhead. Out of all of my drum sequencers, hammerhead has the most mileage.
Ugh, yes you are correct, i had them running standalone.
Would love to see more controls MIDI mapped. An external MIDI controller really enhances the “live set” feeling but you can’t MIDI the note generator knobs - am I missing something?
Is there a scale/key function?
Yes. The same style as in other Bram apps such as Hilda and Solderbox. I little clunky IMO, but it's there.
Thanks, my eyes didn't pick it up on the iPhone. Easier on the iPad.
