I buy so much sh1t from Amazon that the savings on postage from having Prime mean the rest of it is free
So, logic ipad will not be available „solo“ any longer? Only bundled with fcp or desktop apps? it‘s all a bit confusimg to be honest
No, you’ll still be able to subscribe to it as a single app. And people will still be able to buy Logic Pro for desktop. The new subscription option is a bundle meant to sort of be an alternative to Adobe, from what I’ve seen.
I hope that's not the case, I didn't see that being announced. I've been assuming that if you want to continue with just a Logic Pro for iPad subscription (or a FCP subscription) you could do that. The bundle would be a terrible deal for someone without a Mac or who doesn't do video production.
It’s not the case. You’ll have multiple options, not just one option. The only thing you still can’t do is one time purchase of Logic Pro for iPadOS.
Thanks. I read the infos on a german IT website (a good one usually), they got it wrong then… https://www.heise.de/news/Apple-Creator-Studio-Bekommen-kuenftig-nur-Abonnenten-alle-neuen-Features-11142720.html
According to the GarageBand Guide channel on YouTube, it will not be possible to start just a Logic sub on iPad after Creator Studio releases:
Oh well, time to delete Logic from my iPad then. As someone who dips in and out of the subscription and isn’t interested in video production, it’s not worth £13 a month to me.
Possibly time to pull back on using Logic on desktop too, since I won’t have the iPad option anymore.
I asked Patrick for the GarageBand Guide the following:
So, if I wanted to use Logic Pro for iPad again, the price will go up £5 to £13 per month. That won’t be happening
Wow, definitely another nail in the coffin for Logic Pro use among the kind of iOS music makers who frequent this forum, I'll guess.
I'll be keeping My current annual sub at least until I eventually get a new silicone Mac of some kind.
...thankfully there's no need to re-buy Logic on the Mac if one already owns it.
The next Mac version version (LogicPro 13.0) simply won't run on my current Intel Mac
And to be honest my interest in the iPad as a serious music production platform is slowly fading away and thus My iPad will likely remain an 'accesory device'.
A mind-boggingly stupid move by Apple...
One interesting question here is if there will be any changes when it comes to bug-fixes, feature and content updates etc.?
The current bug-fix/update-cycle for a subscription based software is a total sh*t show...
That answers my question, goodbye Logic.
Is anyone using MainStage? Feels like abandonware from what recall. I’m with @Samu on wondering about how much this will improve the offerings. Will that get a revamp to sweeten the deal? Or will more of the software start looking like MainStage?
I've not been subscribed for a while so slightly tempted starting a sub to check out the new stuff coming. Then again, if I understand correctly it will require iPadOS 26, not sure I'm willing to upgrade yet.
Guess we'll know more on the 28th when the release-notes are published...
Feels like they're sticking two fingers up to iOS music making, to be honest.
Paying a fiver every time I wanted to access and edit my files on the iPad was bad enough, no way am I paying £13 each time to include a crappy photo app, and video editing tools I have no use for.
Feels like my investment in the Ableton ecosystem was the right move, doubt I'll be doing much in Logic on the desktop now either.
Stupid, greedy tactics.
Logic Pro = deleted.
Yes, it really is the end of Logic on the iPad for me - £5 to £13 per month? Words fail me
I'm a bit confused now, is the sub for both Mac and iPad or two separate ones? I mean many of the apps don't even exist on iPad and e.g Pixelmator is not the Pro version.
IF it's 2 separate subs it's a catastrophe change (well, the sub for iPad is just plain stupid which ever way it goes)
Frankly, we don't know if it's a stupid move or not. They may decide to change their plans back to allow both standalone Logic Pro for iPad subscription AND the new plan to coexist if there is a flight from Logic Pro for iPad by millions of current subscribers (assuming there are millions of subscribers). I'm guessing the $4.99 subscription hasn't been covering their expenses for maintaining the software and they wanted to see if they could expand their audience of users with the bundle.
If people like the bundle and more adopt it than leave the old plan, then it would be the right move. If not, they'll review and change the plans.
Aren't there other rent-a-DAW apps that are about £13 per month now?
Unlikely, since there would be a risk of a backlash from subscribers that had paid £129 for the year, and I can't recall an example where they've made permanent reductions for existing subscriptions.
More likely the occasional '3 months free' or '3 months for £9.99' type deals.
They're usually rent-to-own, but Apple doesn't seem to keen on that option these days.
One thing Apple could do (which they should have done from day one) is that if a user already owns (or purchases) Logic for the Mac they get the iPad version is included for free...
Currently I don't even have a Mac that can run the next version of Logic or any of the other included apps as they require Apple Silicone so the subscription to the whole creator thing makes no sense...
Yeah I'm afraid I'm right with you there, including being glad that I invested in the Ableton ecosystem. And it really does show that Apple no longer sees iPad as the manifestation of their "vision for the future of computing" or however they put it all those years ago. For creatives, at least, they see it as an accessory for a Mac I guess, and for everyone else, a consumption device. If you can't even rent an iPad Logic license without also renting licenses for a bunch of software that doesn't even run on iPad, well, there's your answer. The creative who uses an iPad but not a Mac is a non-entity to them.
My current LP4i subscription expires in June. Maybe Apple will change course before then. Not holding my breath though.
Spot on, literally the only option for future iOS musicians to use Logic Pro on the iPad next month, is by purchasing a new expensive bundle that includes pro desktop video software.
Absolutely bizarre.
Bizarre indeed. Definitely seems like something that is unlikely to increase revenue from iPad musicians.
This is the company that makes the iPad, saying that in their view "iPad musicians" is not a thing. It's such a bizarre move that I keep hoping that Patrick got the facts wrong. I assume he has good sources though.
That's not a bad idea, but from their perspective they'd be losing out on all that additional income stream. And if Apple has learned anything, it's the power and stability of recurring subscription revenues.
Frankly, I don't know why they haven't tried buying their own telecom or satellite TV services company yet. Recurring revenue streams solved the age old problem for Apple of hitting their quarterly numbers when it used to be their main business consisted of infrequent hardware and software sales. Subscriptions for their services and revenue from App Store apps with subscriptions solved a lot of that for them.
