Just updated the old suite of Apple apps (Pages, Numbers, and I don't use Keynote so that one is off my mobile devices) and I have to say I absolutely hate the redesign. Whoever signed off on this mess should be fired, if they haven't already quit.

Ffs, not those bloody v26 rounded corners. I use Pages and Numbers a lot, I’ll hold fire on the update.

I'm aware he was not well-liked by the designers there and that his replacement is more respected, but designers don't operate in a vacuum. Tim Cook has allowed Apple's software to get dumber and dumber, meanwhile "A.I." is currently running victory laps. Cook had better get it in gear or he should resign.

  • They seem to be lagging on the availability or am I missing something, I did sign up (1 month trial) on the iPad and still can't access Logic and FCp on Mac, Motion and Pixelmator is no problem.
Oh and speaking of Pixelmator, it got updated very secretly, after sign up, to pro on the iPad. i didn't even know there was a pro version for iOS.

  • I had a monthly subscription which I cancelled. Going into the app store and looking at my profile to display subscriptions still gives a button to renew it at the old price. Haven’t tried doing it though.

I just signed up for the one month trial, within Logic Pro on the iPad. It offered me a me a price of just around 5 bucks a month for the Creator Bundle (that's on China AppStore btw) which is bizarre as it's supposed to be $13. So now I managed to sign up for the Creator Bundle for just $5 a month...there was no option to just sub to Logic Pro btw. But yeah, $5 a month was the old price for Logic Pro alone , so it is really a great deal to get the whole bundle for that. I've no idea whether this is an AppStore glitch or what 😁

No, I'd let it lapse ages ago

Just out of interest, having read this thread, I installed Logic Pro to see what options I’d be offered. The AppStore informed me that the latest version required iPadOS 26 so would I like to install a previous version of the app. I selected yes.

Upon opening the app I then got this message. So, you can’t subscribe now unless you are updated to iPadOS 26? Not sure whether it really adds anything to the thread, but thought I’d share it in case!

I use Pages quite frequently, I have held off updating until I know it hasn’t been ruined, in what way is the redesign worse?

  • edited January 28

Ah finally I figured how to get Logic on the Mac as well. There's 2 different versions. So there (on Mac) too it seems the old offering is still valid.

  • If I’m signed up for the yearly Logic Pro I wonder if that will affect the pricing “glitch” going on.

I agree the buck stops with Tim Cook, and the quality of software has significantly declined under his leadership, especially in UX/UI. But I'm also under the impression that he doesn't directly make design decisions in the same way that Steve Jobs was famous for doing. So, hopefully having better folks under him will help get things back on course.

I'm on iPadOS 18 and restarted a sub a couple of days ago. This morning the app had updated itself to version 3, still appearing to work, but without the latest features (although I didn't have a chance to do in-depth testing so not 100% on that).

Perhaps it will work if you install the latest version from the Appstore?

Hmm I don’t see an option for the suite in Logic Pro. I do in Pixelmator. I’m very curious how this works since I have the yearly subscription until June. I’d cancelled my subscription right after getting it so I can decide whether I can afford it at the time.

In the App Store I can renew for the yearly price of $49.99 but it looked like there are going to be “Creator Suite” exclusive features (I bet they would’ve called the Pro features if the word weren’t in the app title 😒). If that’s the case, are they just dropping support for feature updates for original Logic Pro subscriptions? Will that be a separate subscription OR can you get the Suite bundle and have Logic Pro included so you don’t need the $50 sub?

Edit: looks like I can still choose $5/month if I want. Though the $50 value seems silly to pass up if that option goes away.

Correction: I thought it had updated itself as the App Store didn’t show the Update button but the Open button. I noticed now I still have the old app icon and that there is a banner in the App Store that it requires iPadOS 26, which presumably means I’m still on 2.2 rather than 3.0.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I was only installing it out of interest to see what subscription variants were offered under this new system anyway - I don’t see the value of subscriptions when other options are available and will happily continue to live without Logic on iPad. Cheers.

  • I have never seen more inhouse created confusion in the apple world. Coming from the most valuable company of this planet. Totally bonkers.

  • So could Logic on an iPad M3 really replace Reaper on a PC for all my studio recording and creative work?

  • @pax-eterna said:

Maybe. It depends entirely on your workflow and requirements. And whether that'd be an enjoyable experience is another question, again entirely depending on what you're trying to do. It is a full-featured DAW, but there are probably Reaper features that Logic doesn't have and you might have to work around. I don't know enough about Reaper to say more. You might investigate whether Cubasis meets your needs better as a Reaper user though.

I agree. The question is more likely to come down to whether or not you can live with cramming a desktop experience with larger monitor, mouse, more flexible file system, availability of desktop plugins that are often more powerful, etc, etc, etc, ... into a mobile sized touch screen environment. Can it technically replace most Reaper based workflows? Sure. Is it enjoyable? Depends.

Speaking for myself, even if there was a 1-1 correspondence with Reaper on the iPad, I wouldn't want to do desktop level daw work on an iPad. This is why I have no interest at all in Logic Pro for iPad. Even if it was free, I don't think I'd use it.

(Conversely, I hate trying to do creative work on a desktop. I can arrange, mix, and master on a desktop, but ideation just evaporites when I sit down at one. ymmv, of course.)

  • So apparently they just decide to take up 8+ GB of your Mac storage and automatically download the whole suite without notice. Yet it asks for a password to remove them.

Can't be the whole suite, FC alone is almost 8Gb but I understand the frustration Lizzy

  • Looking forward to using the new Chord ID feature in Logic 12 on Mac but unsure about updating. Does anyone use Kontakt 7 and or 8 and if so does it still work OK after the update? Any notable issues with any other 3rd party AU plugins?

Good point, I'm on 15.1 but the update (annoyingly) requires 15.6.

Kontakt working fine for me at the moment on 15.1, I'm hoping it'll still be the case if I update to the latest version (15.7.3).

    Update: according to AI:

"Yes, there are significant known issues with newer versions of Native Instruments Kontakt (Kontakt 7 and 8) on macOS 15 (Sequoia), including version 15.7.3
. The most severe issue is that these versions can cause system kernel panics and reboots on Apple Silicon Macs (M2, M3 and newer).

    Key Issues

Kernel Panics: Kontakt 7 and 8 have a known, ongoing issue where they can cause the entire Mac system to crash and reboot. This is particularly prevalent on newer Apple Silicon machines (after the M1).

GPU/Display Scaling Conflict: The problem appears related to the way Kontakt's user interface (which uses the third-party Qt framework) interacts with Apple's GPU driver and newer HiDPI display scaling architecture.

Kontakt 6 Works: Interestingly, Kontakt 6 does not seem to suffer from this issue, allowing some users to run it without problems on the same systems.

Installation Problems with Native Access: Some users on macOS 15 have reported issues with Native Access failing to install products correctly, citing permission errors or problems with the NI helper daemon."

    Bummer.

Thanks, @oldsynthguy I am actually on MacOS 26.2 on a Mac Mini M2 and the update to 26 broke Native Access (as I discovered when I tried to download some Black Friday purchases!). Since 26.2 it seems to be working OK again now so just thought I would check before upgrading Logic! I will probably hold off for a little while, especially as I am working on a project.

I updated and had my first full crash with a new product that I've ever had with any of my 4 DAWs on my new M4 Air Mac. All my other projects worked just fine. While this may or may not be of any consequence to people, it may give a little pause for thought. I personally have two Macs and only update one and only the other when Im sure, but if you have any reliance on one Mac for an important project, I personally wouldn't update until the projects finished or you have other safeguards in place.

  • As for Apple cutting options for subscriptions, I would go further and wag my finger at them for not giving a buying option on LP4i. Sure they won't sweat the loss of my money, but a buying option for LP4i would have meant me buying a bigger better iPad to run it on. I bet they probably won't even notice sales loses from music makers, as we are such a small group...and iPad music makers are an even smaller subsection of that small group. I doubt we have much purchasing power in the grand scheme of things :p
