Thanks, @oldsynthguy I am actually on MacOS 26.2 on a Mac Mini M2 and the update to 26 broke Native Access (as I discovered when I tried to download some Black Friday purchases!). Since 26.2 it seems to be working OK again now so just thought I would check before upgrading Logic! I will probably hold off for a little while, especially as I am working on a project.

Hmmm...think I'll hold for a bit then, though not much chance of an NI fix now I guess.

Actually thinking back I had some 'kernel panic' issues a while back when trying to use Reaktor, where the Mac shut down completely.

As for Apple cutting options for subscriptions, I would go further and wag my finger at them for not giving a buying option on LP4i. Sure they won't sweat the loss of my money, but a buying option for LP4i would have meant me buying a bigger better iPad to run it on.

It's just greed. They could easily provide a one-off purchase without making a massive dent in their profits, as it encourages (and in many cases forces) us to update our operating systems (see current Logic versions) - and as a result on performance hits - our hardware.

A rise from a fiver to thirteen quid a month for LP4i means it's now been deleted from my iPad. And now I can't even install Logic for desktop as my version of Sequoia - which I can't update because it'll break other stuff - is no longer supported.

The other thing I find annoying about how Apple manages Logic, is their pack approach. Many packs contain stuff I will use and stuff I wont use, but to download all the packs is a mighty pain. Its great that they allow you to move the libary to an external drive, but ive noticed that can become unstable when ubdating the OS and Logic loses the libary, until you sort it. Its a shame really, because there is so much to love about Logic and its relationship with LP4i. LP4i is structured quite well, so that when I send a project to LP4Mac, it is still usable, even without exactly the same apps available.

I initially rented LP4i for a year and made about 50 projects in it, that I have saved on a drive and now use occasionally on my LP4Mac. My collection of iPad projects made in various iPad music apps over the years are not quite as robust - many of those no longer even load in their respective apps!

As I said though, I dont think the iPad music making crowd is large enough to have much influence over the sometimes baffling moves by Apple. I have to say though, I still love their hardware when compared to the competition lol

So apparently they just decide to take up 8+ GB of your Mac storage and automatically download the whole suite without notice. Yet it asks for a password to remove them.

Can't be the whole suite, FC alone is almost 8Gb but I understand the frustration Lizzy

FC is where I pulled that 8+ from. Nothing else seemed as huge, but it had installed a second version of Logic, FC, Pixelmator, and Motion. Not sure there total capacity but I don’t recall installing any.

I think they've demonstrated that, by removing an option to even rent LP4i on its own.

They seem to think we're all Tik-Tocking influencer you-toober's now, supplementing our make-up tutorial videos with a quick AI hip-hop tune innit.

I bet they probably won't even notice sales loses from music makers, as we are such a small group...and iPad music makers are an even smaller subsection of that small group. I doubt we have much purchasing power in the grand scheme of things :p

We hear all the time from indie developers of iOS music apps, that it's a tough market, and nearly impossible to earn a full living developing for it. So it stands to reason that the big software houses aren't really making money in this market either. I think some of them, including Apple, want to see if there will be a tipping point for mainstream use of iOS for deep music production tasks, but fewer people are really expecting it. When LP4i came out I saw it as Apple making a grand attempt to nurture that market. This bundle change, where LP essentially gets repositioned as an accessory app to Final Cut Pro, feels like a signal that Apple doesn't see it happening.

    Yeah quite possibly.

Pretty good actually, I had three views on my ‘Six Minute Date Night Routine’ vid last month, and nearly finished the gangsta rap backing music for the new ‘Step-by-Step Fancy Brows’ Insta?

I fear we may have drifted off-topic slightly…

    Yeah possibly lol

  • Would this suite bring much to the table if you already had apps like Procreate + Dreams ($12.99 each), Cubasis ($49.99), LumaFusion ($29.99), which is about $106 before any IAPs? It would get pricey to buy desktop versions of those, and you can’t guarantee those devs will keep up the apps as well as Apple does theirs (lol), but you’d have a pretty good production suite that’s not subscription based.

Still think Logic Pro for $200 is a great deal and subbing at $50/year isn’t too bad.

It was more obvious with the old icon... four fingers instead of three. LOL.
