Midnight Plaza by Lewis Le Val (Released)

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/midnight-plaza/id6761626640

Midnight Plaza is an AUv3 audio effect that turns clean sound into faded memory, slow neon reflections, and worn-out late-night atmosphere.

Built for vaporwave, mallsoft, ambient, lo-fi, and nostalgic sound design, Midnight Plaza gives you three simple controls:

•Time - Slows playback (tape style)
•Memory - Adds age, wear, and degraded character
•Place - Surrounds your sound with a dreamy reverb

Use it on drums, synths, samples, keys, vocals, or full mixes to create blurred, emotional spaces that feel like memories.

Features:

  • AUv3 effect plugin
  • Designed for vaporwave, mallsoft, lo-fi, ambient, and degraded textures
  • Simple three-dial workflow
  • Great for sound design and resampling
  • Works with compatible AUv3 hosts on iPhone and iPad

Important:
Midnight Plaza does not make sound on its own. It is an audio effect, not a standalone instrument or standalone app.

A compatible AUv3 host app is required, such as Logic Pro, GarageBand, AUM, Cubasis, or another app that supports Audio Unit v3 plugins.

  • Such beautiful design! After listening to Dark Park and its beautiful sounds in this forum, can’t wait to try this one out. And it’s free!

  • Thanks for the free trail . I’ll etc u know what I feel after area sessions. Cheers

Anyone run CACHE (his sample browser app)?

    Nvm, I see the thread...

  • I love this developer’s vibe and presence.

  • I'll check this out, thanks for the gift. I have to say that promo video was pretty pointless though.

I think it’s a great promo. It doesn’t need to be a walkthough (is that why you think it’s pointless?), as the app is free and only has 3 knobs, so anyone can try it for themselves, it’s pretty clear what it does once you have a fiddle!

What did it tell you that wasn't available in the OP or app store?

  • Really like the movie poster like text layout and the design generally, it just works somehow. Very nice effect, thank you very much @lewisleval for the very generous freebie.

My only minor criticism would be that the info text is very small and difficult to read. Cheers.

That’s not its point: it’s there to push people to the Appstore. This dev knows a thing or two about marketing I reckon, more than most devs, for sure 🤷

Well, it’s only a short video, and I just wanted to show some of my implementations of the app in my own music, and maybe share some inspiration for those interested.

I was also hoping that the extra effort of filming and making the video, along with the music, to go with a free app would help to highlight my level of care for what I’m putting out.

  • This app sounds great! Love it. Thanks @lewisleval - I bought your paid apps, fwiw.

It’s a lovely sounding app! The video was cool too, thank you for this!!!

Thank you @lewisleval. With this gift, Mr ambassador, you are spoiling us. :) Okay, okay, it may not actually be a foil wrapped chocolate, but I love its dark, silky vibe anyway - and the stylishness of your UI design, of a piece with Dark Park, which I bought earlier, (and which btw always makes me think of the dog park in Welcome to Night Vale. ) Audio wise Midnight Plaza reminds me a little of the switchable audio modes on the Mutable Instruments Beads texture synth. Pairs very nicely with Dark Park. In fact, I just used both of them as backup to a quick 16 Drones excursion, and I’m very happy with the result. Thanks again.

There is no way of knowing what the plugin brings to the audio in the video. Doesn't take anything away from the generosity and obvious effort that you put into the plugin though. Many thanks.

I understand :) and I know that a sort of before and after demonstration would have been more useful, but with the app being free, I felt that such a demonstration wouldn’t have mattered as much as users can explore it themselves right away. If it wasn’t free, I would certainly have included a clearer example and demonstration of what it does. Thank you! 🙏

  • @eylvy bro- right up my alley. I've gotta score that radio AUV!

  • Finally got to jump in and try this on vocals and drums- really digging it on my drums! better than WARP (imo)

  • I like what @lewisleval is doing and the whole cinematic vibe and his promo work. I bought Dark Park and downloaded this one. Haven’t got Cache yet, but it looks useful and will likely get it too… if for no other reason than payback for this nice new free one that I’m going get plenty of use from.

Thanks 🙏 for your excellent and very welcome offerings @lewisleval :)

I concur! I still need to buy CACHE- Dev’s response to this community has been top tier- and the apps have been a hit!

I’m currently using midnight plaza to slow down(TIME dial) some chord ratchets in RHYTHMBUD that @Gavinski mentioned in another thread…. So cool.

  • It sounds great on vocals. Here’s a little clip from my first podcast episode where I used it.
