PRO-A5 Analog Synth walkthrough video - Official

I won’t hype it by mentioning that one of the filters got a little help from the developer of a certain $200 5-Voice Poly Synth VST, bringing an entirely unreasonable level of synth quality to iOS music making.

Instead, here are some reasons NOT to get it:

1) It doesn't sound like the other AudioKit synth apps.
So if you’re deeply attached to "the AudioKit sound" this one may disappoint you by being its own thing.
That said, if you happen to like a certain vintage hardware synth… you’ll probably dig it.

2) The original hardware had clicks and pops. This emulation faithfully preserves that experience.
The PWM envelope was even fine-tuned and tested against 30+ different edge cases. So yes, the mysterious clicks happen at the same weirdly specific moments too. This is the first app I had to go out of my way to make it more "clicky". It's a feature, not a bug.

3) You’d think Pro-A5 has 5 voices. This has 10. So really this is a P-10. Just blatantly confusing if you ask me.
Funny enough, I actually thought about releasing a basic 5-voice version with just the original hardware controls for $5, and then a full 10-voice version with everything for $10. But, it's summer and I'm in a good mood. So everything is included in $5 intro

4) Like the original hardware, it's a dark/warm synth.
Wide open, the filter tops out between 6k to 8k (The cutoff changes depending on the resonance). If you like your synths cold, this is not the synth for you.

5) It's really a synth that you get the most out of by turning knobs, exploring, and stumbling upon sounds.
If you're just a person that plays presets as is, you'll be leaving a lot of fun on the table.

Honorable mention: The app store description says it has 400+ presets. It ships with 500+ and people keep sending me banks. Apparently some folks enjoy the app. Too many presets.

Tentative Release Date: Thu, June 4th
(Pending Apple Approval)

Thank you. I actually started this thing 2.5 years ago, so I’m not exactly speed-running it over here. It was supposed to come out when J8 did, but a P-5 is way more complex than it looks... the little details are everything

I can confirm, @TheAudioDabbler has a very inspirational bank in the app. Incredibly inspiring pads. Great for ambient

  • Well, that was interesting. It only took 18 minutes from submission to be approved.
That's gotta be some sort of new app review record?

    Probably a good sign

Dang Apple! Sorry, it's not Mac compatible. The app store listing must be settling in.

App Store review never ceases to amaze me.

  • Preordered like a boss!

  • Wow Mathew amazing. Looking forward to it landing soon. Thank you.

I’d gladly pay more for Mac compatibility.

  • So when can we post sound/ preset demos?

  • A legendary $30 synth for a $5 preorder?! That was an easy purchase to make.

I’d say June 4, but pre-orders make it a little tricky since Apple seems to release at midnight in each time zone. So technically some people will have it before we hit June 4 here.

Given that, I’ll defer to any YouTubers here on what feels fair for embargo timing on apps that have a pre-order release?

  • Fastest preorder ever made. Thanks for your hard work @AnalogMatthew!

  • Preordered, obviously

  • Looking forward to this. I hardly buy synth apps or (or apps in general) anymore but the only synth I sometimes miss (but can't justify buying again) is the prophet 5. Preordered

    Same, same..

Daaang Matthew, the quality of your synth apps has really taken a giant leap forward! Keep up the amazing work. Really looking forward to this one! @AnalogMatthew

  • Not long ago I had a go on a real one. Sounded horrible! I guess it needed fx

    same.
    won't mind repurchasing.

Really ? That's strange, this is one of most legendary vintage synths in history.. maybe broken piece ? These old analogs do suffer by drying out capacitors which then leads to detuned unstable sound.

  • I wonder if this will quench my desire for a Sequential Fourm
