Pro A5 is out!
Just picked it up at about 10pm cst when I got the notification my preorder was ready . My wife’s been playing around with it so my review so far is, it certainly sounds good..I’ll let you know how it is when it’s my turn (I’ll remind Dana we have family sharing she can just download it 🤣)

woot!
Can't wait to have a go with it tomorrow for sure.
Oh snap! Just showed up automatically on my iPad.
Classic problem - filter stepping.
When resonance is on max during slow curoff tweak there is noticeable stepping in filter, which then leads to nasty sounding when fast twesking .. Needs simple treatment, knob needs smoothing (few ms long, to not introduce noticeable intertia which would compromise fast tweaks)
Just try init patch, then crank resonance to max and then slowly sweep cutoff from max to zero. Then Try quickly sweep up down. Both cases sounds bad, unlike of any analog synth or any real desktop Pro5 emulation.
For somebody maybe unimporant detail - but those are differences between nasty digital sounding filters and true analog vibe.
EDIT: I’m dumb, I found already setting to enable
filter smoothing. My fault.
As far as I know, stepping when tweaking the filter manually is how the hardware Prophets also work. But it shouldn’t step if you instead modulate the cutoff with a lfo. (This is a DSI thing. I do not have a hardware P5 or one of the other iterations, but the filter in my Mono Evolver also work that way.)
Edited my post. My mistake, there is switch.
HW does have stepping too ? Wow didn’t known that, all analog synths i had were always absolutley smooth.
Matt posted a video discussing that behavior.
Ok then all is how it should be. Error on my side :-)
Here’s an old video explaining why sequential does this
.
One more reason to keep using modern monsters like Serum/Vital.. They sound more analog than thise old analogs 🤣
Honestly this is as close as anything I have heard to the classic prophet sound, instantly recognizable. Great job! I sometimes miss my prophet 6 but this will make not having it anymore more bearable . Hope @Matt_Fletcher_2000 will turn his wizardry towards an oberheim emulation in the future as his gui’s and ui are very intuitive and unmatched on iPad.
Don’t agree but to each their own I guess?
That’s @AnalogMatthew, Matt Fletcher is someone else
Filter stepping is one reason I sold my rev 3 prophet. The other was I was broke. 😩
So far this is working perfectly fine in GarageBand… and yeah I’m having a blast
q: does it have presets by Brice Beasley by any chance!?:)
thnx
That rage limiter is doing things to my head 🤤
@AnalogMatthew some of your apps when opened as AUv3 in Groove Rider 2 do not open the AU correctly. They load the full GUI instead of the smaller GUI. J8 opens correctly, but J6 and Pro-A5 do not. You have to play around to get the GUI to show correctly. Not a big issue but I’m guessing as J8 loads correctly it’s not the desired behaviour. Could you take a look?
I think I only tried 3 presets and couldn’t stop playing around with it. Just WOW!
This thang is special.
@AnalogMatthew also another graphical glitch where the FX section labels are truncated until you switch pages and go back they are fixed.

Speechless. Literally.
This is by far the best sounding virtual analog I have ever heard on iOS.

Ever tried Dagger ? Or July ? Or RRS Ivoks ? or Moog Model D ? Sunrizer ? BA-1 ? Zeeon ? ... pretty much order of magnitude different level ho how good filters and oscillators are implemented ... Like honestly, I see people are super-over-excited here and i understand when you just browse few presets and tweak cutoff here and there on average sounds which are not going into any more extreme terrirory - well, ok. Medium quality, accetapble as background sunds here and there. UI looks very nice, no doubt abut that.
But I played with it last 2-3 hours and literally compared with REPRO-5 .. and .. uhm.. gosh, that is DIFFERENT universe.
Can't help myself - for me it's all again same story with AK synths - the hype and advertisement vastly exceeds reality.. I am always waiting for new one "ok, this time it will be finally really good", but then it is again same story.
Sorry, many people will hate me for this, but that's me, I am just always saying things like i feel them.
No hate, it's good that we have at least a few users here who are more 'down to earth' and don't fall for every marketing trick known to man
Absolutely no hate, keep giving your honest, informed takes, others can disagree if they like but you're making important contributions with these kinds of posts.

Definitely no hate, good to have a mix of opinions, and I tend to value yours.
I have found so far that it sounds fantastic, huge and warm to my ears. I’ve been trying to recreate pad sounds for ages that I know have come from a Prophet, and I’ve finally found myself able to do that with pro-a5.
However, I’ve never used the hardware, or any of the vsts. Would be interesting to know what makes repro-5 sound so much better.
And, sorry, but the way you jumped so quickly on the filter stepping without knowing it happens in the original hardware, felt a bit like you were just itching to find something negative that you could post about. That irked me a bit, not going to lie.
While I do think this new AK synth sounds amazing, I wouldn't go as far as to say it's "the best I have ever heard on iOS".
Spot on with mentioning Dagger, as the filter selection alone in that synth are going to be hard to top.
By Audiokit standards, IMPO, this definitely is a step up!
It sounds really good to my ears! And this does have one thing going for it that you'll never be able to do with REPRO-5, and that's being able to run it on an iPhone 😎.
To put things a little more in perspective, Repro 5 is €149. Pro A5 is €5,99.
edit: to put things even more in perspective, Prophet 5 € 3.555. Pro A5... €5,99.
