@dendy : interesting wrinkle. Pipeline receive on my iPhone 16 running iOS 26 shows latency 21 ms receiving from the iPad 6 (iOS 17.x). But in the opposite direction, iPad 6 shows the latency of 246.9. The iPad 6 as receiver is having a lot of dropouts.

While the iPhone 16 can send to the iPad 6, it is not seeing the iPad 6's send node when I try to pick a channel.

I'm sure you're careful enough to avoid this, but I have had "ghost" wifi routing interfere with what I thought were USB connections. There have been times when I turned off WiFi, but one side or the other wouldn't route over the USB connection until a reboot or some non specific amount of time.

tried to completely remove app from iPad6, instlal it again, first open app cointainer (not plugin, the app) and approve again apple's networking question ?

Also - if you try SEND -> RECEIVE only inside iPad6 (in AUM, put sender on one chanel, receivrer on other) - does it work ? What latency ?

Good point, thanks ! This is something which keeps kick me again and again, the iOS sheduler which is doing decisios when to use wifi and when cable is not much reliable ..

I should employee you as customer support, you have pretty good insight and advices all he time :)))

  • I am going to push this as official 1.0.4 release to appstore .. based on all my tests it really fixed that latency accumulation bug, it is not happening now (at least not in form in which it was happenoing before) so it is definitely progrees and worth to release even through @espiegel123 still have some case when he gets big latency.. my guess is this has nothing to do with bug i fixed here so just uploaded it for review for a ctuall live release ..

  • @dendy - sorry work getting in the way. I did send a report in TestFlight saying that it wasn't working for me. I'm going to try restarting the iPads after switching WiFi off rather than relying on Flight Mode.

I also got a reply from Kymatica:

"Sorry but no, AUM does not have a way to turn off latency compensation. You could ask Dendy to include such an option that would make AudioPipeLine report zero latency, but then chances are that your audio coming out through AudioPipeLine will be unaligned with the rest in that AUM session."

I am not sure that I was clear (I am British and my intended interpretation of words is not always understood the way I intend) because I don't want the alignment. I want every channel to output sound without delay.

Do you’d require every AUv3 used to report zero latency, not just AudioPipeLine.

You’re asking for a kind of live play mode which many DAWs provide. I don’t think this is an unreasonable request for AUM.

But that latency is REAL thing .. it is just there , it's ingenrent property of entire group of DSP operations and expecially in terms of audio streaming over netweork it is just there ... pretending it is not there by reporting 0 to host doesn't make it disappear :) If plugin stops reporting correct latency to host, latency will be still there on the track where is that plugin, but as additional problem you get all time kinds of phasing effects between tracks becasue different plugins withing same host will have differenctly delayed audio...

  • @rewolf48 so you have STILL latency 250ms ?? Or it is smaller now width version 1.0.4 ?

  • @rewolf48

Ok, try current TestFlight build "1.0.4 (2) " ... there is switch in settings of Receiver which causes Receiver competely stop reporting real latency to HOST .. use at your own RISK .. if this solves yiou problem, this is candidate for relase 1.0.4 in appstore together with previous fish which fixes some scenarios with too big latency ..

Yes I would like a Live Play Mode. I play instruments live and do not use Sequencing

but i am listening and understanding the logic of bypassing PDC in host .. I am working on DAW where I want to add also some festures usable for live perfomance , so I will add into settings switch for complete disable of PDC ;)

I haven't been online because I have been testing every variation I could over my lunch break with full iPad restarts.

Making connections was a lot less reliable, but that appears to be an iPadOS problem: the network adaptors are not detected when the iPad restarts and I had to reconnect them.

I had 13ms Latency reported; but no sound received.

When I did get sound it was only with 248ms latency, and like espiegel123 there were intermittent dropouts (10s to 15s between them)

  • Thanks - I will try 1.0.4 (2) when I finish work.

  • Yeah!

This works perfectly for me now - at least for the 20 minutes that I have been trying it.

There was initially some glitches but I had been experimenting with the buffer size and 512 is too high - it seems to cause occasional dropouts over AudioPipeline. I had also reduced down to 16bits resolution which is not great either.

With 24bit resolution and buffer size of just 64, and the new option switched on, everything is great; no problems even with USB connection and WiFi on. Switch it off and the latency on the other channels on the Receiving returns, back on again and it disappears.

    Thanks @dendy

  • glad it helped ! ok, going to send it for review for
    full release

  • First of all, AMAZING APP! First time that i try and sounds with barely latency between iPad and Ableton via Macbook Air M1.

Now, i'm kind of newbie with Live and idk why i can't record the sound from the AUv3 Plugin in my audio track.

So the way i find was "resampling" the AUv3 channel to a 2nd audio track. That's the only way can i record the sound?

Any help would be appreciate. Thanks

You can also select the track you have the plugin inserted in the input selector of a second audio track (I think it's labelled audio from). Like that you can have more than one track running and still only record one, in contrast to resampling.

Most of DAWs can’t record audio coming from instrument into audio track. The trick is to use Receiver EFFECT plugin (part of AudioPipeline package - it has 3 plugins - Sender Effect, Receicer Instrument and Receiver effect). So just put receiver effect onto audio track and then hit record on that track

Thinking about it, if you have Ableton 12 you don't have to use audio pipeline inside Ableton, just the sender on iOS. In Ableton activate link audio on the top left of the screen and choose audio pipeline on the channel you want to record to as input.

Yeah of course... even through interestingly (doesn' make sense to me) sometimes i am getting sligtly smaller latency (5-10%) with my plugin runningi nside Live than Live's own built-in Link AUDIO receiver .. but that may be just weird anomaly, doesn't make much sense to me :)))

Alright, bit of a pity, that I'm on windows and can't use Auv3s there. But I guess your plugin and link audio is the next best thing:)

On windows, you can use this plugin in any DAW .. it should be 100% compatible with my plugins (we use same Ableton's SDK internally)

When I released first version of AudioPipelinem they rejected it with request to record video how the app is used. Which was stupid too, but OK - it was first version so i understand, i recorder video, I setnt them link (cause their f*cking broken Appstore Connect was not able to process my video upload).

Then version 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3 -> they did not asket it anymore.

Now I got rejected update 1.0.4 -> again with same reason. They want video showing how application is used.

This is unbeliebable. Releasing apps in Apple ecosystem is EXTREMELY furstrating, annoying and overcomplicated.

    That's it. End of rant.

Thanks for your attention to this matter :)))

I was making mobile games for over twelve years and it seemed like there was a lot of 'lottery' and random chance in how an update was processed on their end. Having the 'video check' could be some semi random legal protection threshold they use to catch drastic changes to an app at some point (hey he added ripping Youtube videos etc). Who knows they may even go in waves where 20% of X apps during Y time roll a Z chance of the random video check. In our case at one point they wanted a video describing the 'loot box core loop'. to which our reply was simply 'we don't have loot boxes'... PASSED, heh

I've tried it (on Mac not Windows), and it works well.
