What's a good auv3 compressor?
I am looking for a good compressor, something that gives some power and edge. I was looking for Waves C1 compressor on the Apple Store, but I couldn't find it or any of their plugs anymore, only one bundled in Cubase. What are your recommendations? Thanks

Are you on iPad or iPhone? I'd say one of the best all-rounders is FabFilter Pro-C 2, but it's iPad only.
RoughRider 3 is free and pretty good. I’d start there.
I still enjoy both Schlap and Smoov from Calum Audio...
Schlap uses RMS metering and Smoov uses Peak-metering.
I'm on an iPad. Yeah Fab Filter always makes good stuff.. What about Toneboosters?

I'd say TB's is a good all-rounder too. I also like the fact TB's plugins also work on iPhone, albeit the interfaces are tiny as fuck.
I also like @timfromtheborder 's suggestion of RoughRider 3. Just a note - RoughRider 3 is not a transparent all-rounder compressor and does add its own sauce to your signal, but oh man what a tasty sonic signature. ❤️ And you can't go wrong with "free" either.
pro-c 3 came out earlier this year. agree that the fabfilter is an excellent all-rounder (really it's a suite of many different types of compressor) and yes, it's on ipad only and it's maybe a bit expensive for some. it might be worth looking at some videos, or you can demo the desktop version

I also want to keep up to date. The fact I can use FabFilter AUv3s in Koala on iPad is mindblowing, lol.
FAC Medusa is pretty sweet. Multiband, saturation for each band, and you can multiout the bands for other fx processing.
I like the stock compressor in Drambo. Plus there's the new code module where you can design, or "vibe code" your own. Ben Richard's made a nice one that he's got up on patch storage

If I'm messing around in AUM with a bunch of auv3s, I always reach for DDMF MDE Stereo on the master bus, and I use Barkfilter's Tripleband preset on individual channels when I want a sound to punch through a mix.
Red Rock Sound (RRS) makes some fine compressors. And if you can live without the snazzy metering and knobs, the modestly priced LevLr2 from @Rob_Jackson_Music sounds pretty great.
plus 1 for this. In my own opinion I don't think you can do better, though we should probably recommend C 3 now but I haven't personally got it yet on ipad. Also Pro MB for when multiband is required. I couldn't be without both of these.

@colonel_mustard pointed out above Pro-C 3 exists, and now I have $30 less in my bank account. 😂 Pro MB is also solid, though I admit that I don't know much about multiband compression outside of using presets. 🫣

I f--king love Dan Worrall's videos. The man has a perfectly straightforward but eloquent way of speaking.
Plus ... unless it's just not reporting it ... no latency.
That's something I wanted to mention to @Antos3345 to look out for. If not adding latency is important, some compressors are better than others. If it's only for mixing/mastering that's probably not an issue, but if playing live and/or using on some tracks and not on others, then it's something to think about.
LA Comp by OSC Audio is a fantastic compressor with a lot of little tweaks and a great interface

ThrillMe by DiscoDSP is a to the point multi band that I get good results from
And when I need to bring a sound out of something it’s a go to
Dials by AudioThing while not a traditional compressor with attack and threshold settings per say…the character it can bring to an instrument is very beautiful and makes for some fun results

I’d say the same for Speakers by AudioThing as well since your main compressor feature is a knob and envelope which is totally fine as the other tweakable FXs add and subtract just fine ….the compressor is just one feature amongst many different parameters to control on these and what you can get out of Speakers and Dials has been hard to match
I think Speakers is one of the most fun AudioThing apps
RRS Punch by RRS is the perfect channel strip by far and is all around great especially if you need something quick on tracks
I have many more including Hardware and some on LUNA but these are the ones I’m constantly throwing at something on IOS and iPadOS
What’s great with all these is they work for both iOS and iPadOS
If you want to get specific to iPadOS
Fab filter PRO C2 or Klevgrands Richter
I have never used Medusa or WOOT for anything really despite owning them and not knocking those either… just adds a weird flavoring to the sound (odd to say coming from me)
@Schmotown - thanks for the shout out. And @wim, yes regarding LevLr2, it should introduce no additional latency as it was designed for live use as well as being a lightweight general utility comp. Also very light on CPU compared to the "big name" ones as the implementation is quite simple.
There's also LevLr which is super bare bones, and that one's free.
LevLr2 is essentially two comps in series set up as comp + limiter and an optional clipper. I also find the mix control very handy.
But, before you spend two hard earned bucks on LevLr2, you might want to hold off until next week or so

WHAT is for you good compressor ? Especially in terms of "SOUND" .. what for you defines "good comproessor" ?
RRS Punch offers a lot as a complete channel strip. And if you only need a comp then RRS CL1 is good (based on desktop Molotow) and RSS Comp 609.

FabFilter Pro-C3 is hands down the best compressor on iOS.
Pro-C2 was a good workhorse compressor, great for clean and clinical stuff, but arguably a bit boring.
Pro-C3 is a completely different beast. It adds 3 saturation types that you can dial in, either Pre or Post, and several new algorithms, including an LA2 emulation and Vari-Mu, so you can get classic compression sounds, including Fairchild. There's also an OTT-style compressor, as well as clean and punchy options.
It's by far the most versatile option, aside from maybe the compressor in Logic, but personally I prefer Pro-C3 to the Logic compressor. You can do more or less anything with it, either clean as a whistle, or brimming with character.

Punch, sound of course, warmth. I like a lot the " glue compressor' in Ableton, so something on that level will do.
It's very versatile, so at least you won't need to buy another compressor if you're looking to achieve a different sound or vibe.
Interesting discussion.. i always prefered super clean compressors before those "colouring" or "warm" like poeple tend to call it ..
For me best compressor is surgically clean precise one which really does just the job work what is mentioned to be used - the copressions (eg. chaning signal dynamics)
