  • Not much. There’s a lot of crossover with this forum and the FB groups.

  • Thinking «why on earth are you suggesting that?». A bunch of inaccurate replies to questions and app recommendations.

People saying how much they detest Facebook.
    (I'm guessing.)

  • Nothing against any of the particular Facebook groups, but overall the vibe on Facebook itself is pretty bad, I feel like Loopy Pro Forum is the place to beat for intelligent, informed and mostly civil discussion of this hobby, plus by participating here you're not adding to Zuck the Cuck's bank balance.

    "Zuck the Cuck": 😁

I just left a camera forum that got nasty quickly. I am grateful that the flare-ups here are few and far between

EDIT: even if I don't post or comment as much these days, financial woes have led me to take on more work, so I just don't have the time

Good luck with the finances Dan ma bro! Yeah Facebook is extremely toxic, in general, from what I can see. Long live the LPF!

Thanks Gav, it's been a very rough few months thanks to the tax system in Italy! But hey ho, life goes on... What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger, life is a learning process, and other cliche platitudes!

I agree LPF is a little oasis!

  • It's a much better oasis than it was a year or so ago too. Far fewer petty squabbles, great to see, maybe there's hope for the internet after all...

  • My initial response to JfB's question was
'what, aside from the fake shit-stirring social destabilisation propaganda from hostile intelligence services and delusional machiavellian authoritarian god-complex extremists?'
But then I thought: 'Let's keep it light, man. It's going to be 36 degrees again today, just drink some water'.

  • I signed up just to support @sfm and follow @ninobeatz. I've gotten a couple of TestFlight leads from there- but not much else.

Little communities like this only survive when you keep all left and right wing sentiments at the front door. We get bombarded with that stuff from both sides already all of the f*cking day. The opinions are so strong that nobody listens to anybody anymore, instead just despise each other for something as simple as a political choice. It’s a slippery slope.

Completely. I hope my anti-FB cynicism wasn’t interpreted as a political rant. That manipulation stuff comes from all over the spectrum, and I like it here precisely because we (normally) leave it at the door and focus on the things most important to us: obsessively collecting apps creativity and having fun.

Same. I just run the messenger app, no interest in all that other nonsense. I get annoying family who see the online dot saying 'I see you on Facebook all the time, how do you get anything done?!' sigh no

Really? 😂 Me, I have notifications for both Facebook and Messenger (and other social media) turned completely off in the settings (as well as text notifications). I have ADHD, which can be a double-edged sword.

See, when the hyperfocus kicks in, it's almost impossible to break me away from making music. It's how I get so much done in so little time. However, if the notifications go "ding ding ding" or drop down text from the top of the screen, it'll break my hyperfocus and make it almost impossible to return to my task at hand.

Most times, people don't normally type until their thumbs go sore, but I do have "that one friend" who'll text at any time throughout the day and text a lot. 🤣 Bless him, but ain't a producer got time for that when I gotta stay on my grind and put in my 9-5 daily (for myself and for clients).

Anyways, getting back to the original topic at hand. This forum is where I come for music news, camaraderie, and just the good-natured vibes of this place.

I am just saying family IRL assuming I use FB when i dont, aside from messenger sitting mostly idle, heh. These people see the online dot next to my name and assume I am using the news feed or looking at peoples pages which I never do. The messenger app is just on in the background of my ipad for the three people who may message me once in a blue moon. I probably only get a direct message ever couple weeks and maybe only spend five minutes a week chatting. Annoy thing is people have killed their accounts and now want me on whatsapp (which I can't technically do (or want to) on my ancient phone. or to text them (which I never do on my ancient tiny phone) or worse yet check my email which I also never do (spam and BS). I miss the olde days of being able to just call anyone out of the blue and it not be weird for people.

Same here. Or have specific hours in which your parents would let you call your friends to meet up at the local mall. Ah, I miss the 90s. :)

Same here. I might've been a hack amateur RE producing music, but damn I was happy. Especially during my years at uni.

  • I use Facebook for the Marketplace since that’s pretty much replaced Craigslist these days. It sucks otherwise. If I ever accidentally look at my feed it’s ads, memes, groups I don’t care about, or someone ranting.

I really like Discord for social media. There’s a few niche communities there with great people. My favorites are a handful of pixel art groups, a fractal discord, and some gaming related ones - some friends from an ancient Zelda forum, Splatoon, and one for Isabelle from Super Smash Bros Ultimate (my girl). Much better than Facebook or Reddit.

  • I use Marketplace to sell stuff from time to time. Also, my daughter has at times had it as her only way to communicate, not having a phone number.

@AudioGus - I get notifications from messenger app when someone messages me when the app isn't even running. I go into Messanger, deal with the notification and force-quit it. I assume it doesn't show me as being online, but maybe I'm wrong?

I got back last night from a four-day backpack camping trip. Normally this is four days of complete isolation. I bring my devices for reading and music making but otherwise am incommunicado.

Imagine my surprise when I turned on my phone when I got to the site and ... 5G signal. Felt like I had lost something. Having to set Airplane Mode at a "back-country" camp. meh.

the best one for me was seeing that a good friend of mine was 'active' on facebook, while I was watching him playing guitar and singing at a pub gig

Pretty sure you can (and should) turn off that status visibility! Though it's probably the kind of ability they'll remove, if they haven't already, as the platform continues its slide into the hell realms. If they could, they'd keep you glued to the thing in a way not dissimilar to the last scene of A Clockwork Orange.

I'm not sure, sometimes it just seems to be stuck as online. Maybe it is an FB thing to make it look more used than it really is heh
