  • I'm enjoying digging into this one. My first reaction was skepticism (vibe? koala similarities?) but the developer comes across in all media as someone genuinely invested in the app. I haven't gone far but at the least I feel a very different workflow to koala. I think I'll be using it in standalone mostly as it's great for recording jams and chopping them up. The slice methodology is particularly well done in my worthless opinion.

  • @Ailerom I know what you mean about the scepticism now that something might be vibe coded, so worth mentioning here that Nervous Cook said in a vid that his wife, who's the actual developer doing the coding, has been a software dev for years.

  • You have to long press to record a sample, right? I can’t find a way to change that, and it makes recording stuff very awkward.

Precisely. There's a really nice, 2 people chillin together, just playing some beats and being musical entities. It seems a little spark exited their world, set free for all of us to witness it's beauty.

  • If this had automation, auv3 and stem splitting , Koala would be in danger of losing its crown

And don't be afraid to go 8x2 on the sample pads! Not all of us are fans of 4x4.

  • Just thought I would share for those interested or that maybe missed it, that an iPad native layout has been released as of v1.1.0:

Also, I can't remember if this was the case on iPad before but the UI now allows resize which is cool. Plus now you can see the sequencer next to the pad layout in landscape which is helpful. I haven't personally had the chance to dig into this app yet. Anyone made any jams with it?

    Still require iOS 26.5?

  • @mikejohn still shows 26.5 on the app store

  • The dual pane iPad view is a good idea, still need to know what other refinements it offers over Koala though.

  • The landscape mode, which I was pressing for in this thread, shows up in the update! Wow, instabuy!

Can this be my new go to live performance sampler? This development couple is unbelievable, and it looks exactly how I would want my workflow on a sampler (aside from an 8x2 grid at the bottom instead).

Go to the App Store to immediately purchase...

    Wait...

    Not compatible with 17...

    Damn.

Yeah, stuck on 16+ here (can’t get my old Air4 to update), otherwise I’d grab it.

iOS lowered to 18 no good !

Yeah, still too high for my old Air, though I could run it now on the M2. Think I’ll have another attempt at installing 18 on this one first.

    Edit: failed again.

Great that you are considerate enough to bring it back to version 18. I understand completely that limitations in full usage and possibly new bugs may appear in older versions. To put it simply, if you are working with an older device, you already work with limitations in many apps with CPU usage and you have to monitor your usage. A simple one time pop up (or just as simple mention in the app description in the apple store) that states that older iOS versions may be limited in using the app to it's fullest potential.

I would of course be willing to be a guinea pig for version 17 on test flight, giving you every bit of feedback I can.

(I am using two iPad Pro 2017 12" models... Yes, the last Pro with the headphone jack!)

When apps expand their version availability, they expand their sales revenue, plain and simple.

There is an app called Sessions that currently will not apply to older versions. While I respect their POV, I am willing to work with limitations and scale down in order to not overload the CPU. Already do that in AUM. I just think the market for more sales to customers who want to experience the workflow in their older devices may be potential customers lost.

My two cents. Willing to be a tester for 17. Let me know!!!

Not sure the dev on here you might be better emailing him.

  • I’m on 26.3 and I can’t even get it.
This is definitely a developer error, it’s costing him sales.
I think I remember a developer telling me that they have to specify the iOS they want it to go from, otherwise Apple will just set it at the very latest iOS at the time of submission.
So, it’s very likely an easy fix for them.

  • Seems fine on my iPad 7 (18.7.9). I find the landscape view a little busy. So many rectangles.

I’m really trying to like this app, as I think this guy is amazing. But, it’s just not intuitive.. having to long press and / or double tap some buttons, I simply can’t remember it all. There is enough room to have a simple M and S button for mute and solo etc. also, the way of loading samples is awkward.. to load to a specific pad, you can use ‘show pads’ but then this forces your whole sample directory into two lines.. making scrolling awkward. For speed and ease of use we just need dedicated pages. Sample, sequencer, FX, Master etc. I know you going to say ‘it already has that’ well, yes it does but the UI is so busy it’s hard to
    To find what you need.

Also the lack of piano roll is killing me. I hate this drum pad style or sequencing.

If this was made more with speed simplicity in mind it would be a great app. That’s why Koala is amazing. It’s not over-busy, and everything has its place .

That’s my thoughts. Nothing malicious intended.

Yeah. I’m slowly making my way through the videos, but I’m having trouble retaining anything. One problem which saps my enthusiasm right off the bat is the lack of a waveform or other visual cue on the pad, à la Koala. Agreed about the piano roll. My stuff is pretty much all assembled and arranged and not live, so a piano roll type sequencer is pretty important.

I really wanted to like this app because Koala never really did it for me. But I have to agree, it’s not particularly intuitive to use. The ui is mostly text boxes and very monochrome. Pretty decent for a first effort tho, hopefully they’ll improve it.

  • Sample management at least for me it pretty much there with Resampler. I keep a lot of folders in the cloud and Resamplr handles importing no problem unlike Koala which freezes if I add my main samples cloud folder.

Don’t you find the function of ‘show pads’ completely shrinks the whole folder structure? That needs looking at imho
