Wim/Mike, please don't leave
Wim (real name Mike) posted in a separate thread that he's leaving, after a really silly little mixup where his humour went over someone's head. That thread is closed so I opened this one. I know it probably won't make any difference, but I can think of few, if any, members of this forum who've contributed so much, so selflessly, over the years here. So I really hope you change your mind, Mike. If not, I'm absolutely gutted to see you leave, especially over something so small, but huge huge thanks for all that you've done for this community.

I agree with this statement. I saw the post, and it seemed like a joke to me!
Yeah, be a shame to lose either party over this 🫤
It should so, so have come across as a joke to anyone who has the slightest inkling of Wim's character. A more admirable person you could not meet.
Agree!
Ah, this is such a shame. I do belive we should keep a friendly tone at the forum, but I do also believe that people should be allowed to learn from their mistakes. And mistakes do happen re judgements of tones and jokes, but when people actually honestly apologize - as is clearly the case in the post linked - it really do need as severe consequences as this. No matter whether the offended party accept the applogy or not.
wim leaving? damn. He's such an amazing collaborator here T___T a true OG
We’ve all been there. That’s the problem with the online world, people don’t know what’s happening in the poster’s real one, so crossed wires are a common occurrence.
Hopefully he’ll rethink the decision to leave, or have a break and then get reborn as @wim-pro
I would hate to see either person leave. It's a misunderstanding, nothing more.
Yep, Mike has always been incredibly helpful and generous. I think it is healthy (for everyone) to step away from online forums for a few weeks at a time,…just have a break from them,…so maybe do that @wim? Have a few weeks away and then come back. You’d really be missed if you left permanently 🩷
Please stay wim
This is a huge shame that either @wim or @1ktone should leave over this misunderstanding. Hopefully, in the cold light of day (no idea what time zones they’re in) they’ll both change their minds?
@wim, you’re one of the members whose posts I always read, find them to be very helpful and informative and find you to be extremely generous with your time addressing the technical problems other members, including myself, have with various apps. I think you’d be a great loss to the forum and personally I would miss your presence here very much. Please reconsider.
@1ktone, I can’t claim to be as familiar with you via your posts as I am with @wim via his, but, after consideration, I do hope you can see that the intention here was purely humorous and not insulting? Likewise, I really hope you’ll reconsider and decide to stay.
@wim that’s very bad news if you go. I stopped managing a football team to focus on playing, it gave me a new lease of sporting life. Hopefully we’ll have you back on the pitch soon - although sadly in my case the new manager doesn’t pick me much
I hope both of these guys stay.
A cheeky joke that backfired is not a reason to lose 2 good Forum members.
Hope you can both rethink the situation.
I'm the master of mixups where my humour goes over someone's head. So listen up Wim. Run brother, run. I'm willing to bet any minute you spend doing something other than communicating here is a minute better spent. Regardless of the reason, it's the best move.
This kind of reason I can get behind. Probably everyone who's a regular here should be spending less time online, less time communicating via the very unsatisfying medium of text, and less time obsessing over the ins and outs of apps, yep.
Don't leave @wim, we'll miss you...
Ah, man. Curse of the web.
@wim is a font of knowledge. I've lurked on here maybe 9+ years (fewer as a member) and his contributions have (mostly 😂) been what makes this place the strong community it is. To be fair, sometimes his comments can come across as a bit spiky, but I had always assumed, with a name like Wim, that he was Dutch and just uncompromisingly direct! 😂
If you've got a dry/absurdist sense of humour and you're in the right kind of playful mood, an over-the-top response can leave you tickled, even if it doesn't translate for everyone. No fault of @1ktone's either, it didn't read as intended.
"There's no way this OTT quip can be misinterpreted!"
These hazards come with the online territory. Pinch of salt, deep breath, take your lumps, learn from it, press on.
I believe.@wim said that he would resign as a moderator, not leave the forum, though I hope neither comes to pass. I can’t begin to quantify how much I’ve learned from him.
In my view, @wim is one the most consistently valuable people I've ever read in this area of interest. I think he has earned a lot of leeway, and charitable interpretations of mood.
That said, I know he feels. I've seen a lot of people step away from positions like his, particularly recently. It's hard out there. There's a heavy burden of current circumstance, and we can never know what's going on in any person's life. Sometimes the filters just break down.
If anyone reading this knows him, and has continuing private communication, please pass him my appreciation, sympathy, and hope for eventual return.
If think the joke was kinda funny
@wim has helped me on several occasions, he is a very friendly guy and it will be a real shame not to have him on this forum.
I also agree that we should all keep this a friendly forum, there is nothing wrong with banter between us, it can definitely brighten and lighten things up when frustration gets into the mix.
If any user thinks they are targeted with disgruntled or abusive conversation from another user, perhaps a private message between them could sort things out rather than do it publicly - which can cause more harm in the end.
That’s just my opinion, I really like this forum, it is extremely helpful, it’s better than a user manual for tried and tested results for app problems, I do hope @wim reads all these comments here.
Mike
dang. i've been reading this forum on and off for the last 10-11 years and i can't think of any user who's contributed more to help people out.
it's our loss more than his.
if you do read this at some point, i have appreciated you through the years @wim. i can understand not fighting to work for this community for free forever, staring at a glowing glass panel as sands run through the hourglass, but i think you're alright.
engagement here doesn't have to be all-or-nothing - casually joining in if and when you feel like it needn't be a big thing.
wishing you well, whatever the future brings.
I'm sorry to see him leave. At least for me, I'm sure it will mean less time logged at LPF, since @wim 's posts are ones I keep an eye out for and generally read even if the thread isn't one I'm especially interested in.
Yeah @wim we are a lot of folks here who really appreciate you, and your humour as well. I will be here far less if you go, I think.
Humour is relative, sometimes getting the joke cannot be explained....like the dress that appeared two completely different colours depending who is looking .... :-)
No one has been more helpful to me on this forum than @wim. And as a newish user, no one has made me feel more welcome. Agree with all the sentiment here, but I’m taking it more radical. I won’t be posting here again until Wim does.
(FWIW, I can’t stand when people ask me “are you ok?” or “what’s wrong?”. I guess I have what some call “resting bitch face”, and I’ll often reply with “f you” or something. Wims moron response resonated with me, and tbh had me cackling)
No, pls don't do that. Wim/Mike may have left at least partly for his own reasons. No need to lose more people. I reckon Wim is a pretty stubborn guy and this mode of protest will not make him change his mind. Hopefully he'll come back, but it'd be on his own terms and in his own time.
@wim your contributions are invaluable, including your jokes! please stay
