Welcome! Good to have you here Jonas.
It would be fair to combine the two into a single purchase, especially if you already bought it to support me. The problem is the two different services Apple and Lemon Squeezy, both being difficult in their own way. I'll check if there's a function in LS, or a workaround. One easy solution would be to create one code for all TP2 users but last time I did that it got leaked pretty fast
I'll look into it.
This is an easy addition that can be implemented in next update. I will also look into random modulation targets, some of the parameters get wild pretty quick so they have to get dialed into the system. But yeah technically not a big deal. Thanks for the good idea!
Cool, thanks Jonas. Obviously it would be amazing if I got the iPad version free, having purchased the desktop (and loving it!) …but I totally understand your reservations. 🙏🏼
Hey Ulf, just a suggestion, but maybe change the thread title to include the app name? I’m always gonnna click on a thread called “awesome craziness” but others might not 😊… @Pxlhg
That’s excellent, thank you - I’m a big fan of a random button!
Great if you can, using Lemon Squeezy has been a bit of a pain, tbh. Maybe a uniquely generated code for each account would work better, or a way to submit an email address with the iOS version via an IAP?
Good idea @oldsynthguy 👆🏽
Sure, it was just that I didn't mention TF2 alone but others as well. Anyway, I changed it.
This thing looks incredible, can't wait for the iOS version.
Hello Jonas!
Excellent piece of work here. I am an appaholic, and this is straight up genius here. Great layout, design, and I especially love the grid type display right here. Are those all touchable and can be punched in/out?!
I have a suggestion here after watching all the videos. There is a very large, impressive X/Y pad. I had a KP2 and a KP3. I've had a few few effects with non return-to-center joysticks, and even made a few of my own. I've had slicers. And of course, I've had a few apps with X/Y pads and slicers.
First, let me tell you about some great features from those so I can illustrate my point.
There was a great feature on the KP2 that wasn't on the KP3. It had a momentary (down) and latch switch (up). You could record your movements for just a couple bars and they would loop in time. If you used the momentary toggle, it would start your effect from wherever you touched first when you recorded. Imagine a downward swoop from the top right to the bottom left for a filter. It would start over at the top every time you flicked the switch and start to swoop down. It would then hold at the last position you were at until you let go. I don't know where Korg (and Roland) got these half momentary/half on toggle switches, but they are awesome. The Roland EF303 had this too (called it Grab) but that was to punch in and out of the effect.
The KP3 would record a couple bars on the X/Y pad and loop them. You could use an effect, switch to another effect, and keep the gesture. Problems with it were
1. The loops were way, way too short.
2. They would immediately loop back to where you started, and if you didn't land exactly on that sweet spot at the end on your recorded gesture, it would jump. Sometimes desirable, sometimes not.
3. You could not save a gesture. Once you recorded a new one, it was gone.
4. Nothing on the KP 2 or 3 was MIDI assignable.
Elastix FX from Oliver Greschke had 4 assignable, recordable independent XY effects on one screen. However, it was limited in length, and all the FX would restart. I suggested a much longer loop length and a freeform recording loop for each parameter, meaning that it would be, in effect (bad pun noted and not intended), a euclidian effect.
And of course, many iOS apps that had beautiful touchscreen x/y pads with multi touch and NO recording feature (Looking at you, TC-11 !)
And, of course slicer pedals were excellent in the signal chain after the KP3.
OK, so now that I got all that out, let me simplify.
My feature request for the XY pad:
That's a lot. But if anything, much, much longer recordable loops that are savable, and timed or freeform. And a toggle like the KP2. One of the best effect ideas lost to time.
I am an appaholic, an effects addict, and you have the blue meth. Thank you, Heisenberg.
@PhaseFiasco
pls pls be sure that lowest system (you use to compile this for)
is iOS 17 at least.
thank you!
+1. No matter how many times I try, I’m unable to update my Air 4 to iOS 18.
+17 on iOS 17 compatible.
This perfect thank you for taking time to write this. I'll look into it, fun stuff!
iOS 17 compatible should not be a problem, I'll investigate further.
@PhaseFiasco I think there's a bug regarding 'Perform' automation (X,Y). The plugin must be open for it to work. I tried both an external track with drawn points and also adding an LFO to cv. Both reacts same, as soon as you close the UI the automation stops. I'm on a MacMini M1 with latest MacOS and I'm using Reason 14.
I’m so excited to see Tape Fiasco 2 coming out for iPad
. I bought it for desktop but it seems so performable and so a really great fit for touch.
@PhaseFiasco I’d be very happy to beta if you need testers.
Thank you for even considering this! I just think if XY pads had some of these features, it would be amazing. My KP3 is still part of my setup, still relevant, still has things other effects don't.
And it still drives me crazy that they left out some crucial features they certainly had the buttons and sliders and knobs for! And a way to update via USB, yet they ignored updates and left it to move on...
New update is out with lots of goodies:
Pitch Shift:Pitch Shift uses a grain-based engine to move audio up or down in pitch: from tight octave layers and harmonised doubles to hazy, wide stereo textures. Try it on vocals for an otherworldly double, or on a synth with added Spray for unstable, tape-like movement.
Scatter:Scatter breaks incoming audio into a living cloud of grains that can be pitched, reversed, frozen, and scrambled. Turn a simple drum loop into a shifting rhythmic pattern, or stretch a sustained sound into an evolving atmospheric texture.
Gate:Gate lets you tighten loose recordings, remove unwanted sound between hits, or reshape the tails of drums and percussion. Push it harder — and modulate its settings — to turn continuous audio into sharp, animated rhythmic patterns.
Mangle:Mangle is an aggressive two-band compressor and saturator built to pull out noise, grit, and hidden detail. Put it on a polite drum bus, bass, or texture and turn up Brutality to make it louder, dirtier, and far less well-behaved.
A new EQ for fast, focused tone shaping:EQ is a flexible five-mode tone shaper with high-pass, low-shelf, bell, high-shelf, and low-pass modes. Remove rumble before distortion, add weight to thin drums, tame a harsh resonance, or modulate the frequency for animated filter sweeps. Then drive the high- or low-pass modes for extra character.
More control over distortion and Prism:The distortion effects now include dedicated low- and high-cut controls, making it easier to keep low-end weight under control, soften brittle highs, and place distortion exactly where it belongs in the mix.
Prism has also gained a new Notch mode. Use it to carve moving gaps into harmonically rich material, create hollow resonant sweeps, or add subtle motion without taking over the entire signal.
Squash has been heavily reworked:For a cleaner, but also more noticeable effect.
Modulate your modulators:You can now modulate a modulator’s own settings using the four modulation columns, the Graph Editor, or the Perform page.
This new layer of modulation makes it possible to build movement inside movement: LFOs that change shape, envelopes that continuously evolve, and performances that never repeat in quite the same way.
Make Tape Fiasco react to external audio:Tape Fiasco can now use an external audio signal as a sidechain or envelope-following source. Let drums drive an effect, make a texture follow a vocal, or use any external signal to bring responsive movement and dynamics into your processing. Set the envelope follower to External signal and feed a second audio to the plugin.
Tighter, more rhythmic Stretch effects:Stretch’s Scatter and Grain Size parameters can now follow the host clock, giving you more rhythmic, repeatable, and precise results. Build grain movement that locks to the track instead of drifting around it.
Multiple themes — and clearer text:Tape Fiasco now supports multiple themes, so the interface can better match your taste and workspace. Text readability has also been improved throughout the plugin, making it faster and more comfortable to use in long sessions.
New presets!
Updating is easier, too:The new built-in update checker lets you see when a new version is available without signing in to Lemon Squeezy. No account detour, no guesswork: just a simpler way to keep Tape Fiasco current.
Ah, missed that bit, updated mine via the Lemon Squeeze fiasco. Good to know for next time though.
Unless something comes out of left field, this is the most anticipated app for me. The weirder, the better! Hoping the compatibility reaches V17, and that it comes soon. Thank you for keeping us in the loop!
Also, I see you used a great font for your UI for tempo divisions, and ON/OFF, etc. Very reminiscent of SAMPLR and TE devices. Maybe enlarge your fonts across the UI and use that font.
It's the squares and waveforms and general vibe of the the UI that had me at hello. Do not hesitate to melt my mind. I love learning the secret language of symbology for instruments that reward me for exploring.
I've watched that Databroth demo at the top like five times. Fascinating how much you can do to your incoming sound, the variety and extremes are delicious.
Can I PM you a couple ideas and an "easter egg" or two? I know I already went on at length about X/Y pads, but I am an idea machine.
The iOS version have been working perfectly on my test devices for a while now, Apple however, seem to take extremely long lunch breaks since that process has been a complete - fiasco. I'm hoping that things start moving now when summer and vacation time is ending. I will downgrade to V17 within the upcoming days to make sure there's no issues before sending to beta testing.
PM me buddy!
Sooner! Applause
Not sure how I missed this was coming to iOS. I bought the desktop version recently and love it. Really looking forward to this coming to the iPad. Congratulations!
Done. Let's see what this puppy can do!
I would recommend to download latest version that got released today, where a lot of "micro bugs" has been fixed. https://github.com/everyreasontopanic/tapefiasco-updates/releases
Thank you!
