The Ballad of Dorothy Parker is a showcase of the Purple Pain's talent. Bastard. Imagine having dinner with those two. What would she say when he sidled off to take a slash?
Killing Joke - 'Fire Dances'
Fierce, primal stuff with Geordie Walker's visceral and unique guitar playing to the forefront (pity about the bass-light production though)
Another mighty KJ album:
@JohnnyGoodyear I must admit I mainly know her writing only by reputation. So I went and read a few snippets and was surprised how many I knew but hadn't attributed them before. Then I read this:
"If you're going to write, don't pretend to write down. It's going to be the best you can do, and it's the fact that it's the best you can do that kills you."
That really puts us in our place..
Rightly very famous but underrated lady. Bit like a great band who's only known for their Christmas singles
Wow. She's brilliant. An American, female, Oscar Wilde. Almost perfect...if only she were a blonde
When painfully true happens.
Old stuff. Dylan's Blonde on Blonde (which has my #1 favorite song "Visions of Johanna"), Young's Tonight's the Night, Stones' Exile on Main Street.
Several of Orbital's albums were (IMHO) wonderful examples of orchestrating sound. I still love songs like Belfast, Halcyon+On+On and Forever among many others.
Talk Talk - The Party's Over & The Colour Of Spring.
in case you missed the bunny boy,
a modern classic on youtube
Coil - Stolen And Contaminated Songs is getting a lot of playing by me this week. I'm also enjoying Broadcast - Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age
List changes but these are pretty consistent throughout my life! - Probably says something about my age too.
Planet Gong - Floating Anarchy 77
Scientist - Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampire
Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth
The Doors - LA Woman
Tubeway Army - Replicas
Ultravox - HaHaHa
Faust - Faust IV
Hawklords - 25 Years On
The Human League - Reproduction
X Ray Spex - Germfree Adolescents
T.Rex - Electric Warrior
Lovely, I've got those. Saw Here & Now do the Floating Anarchy set at a festival last year and it was powerful stuff. Strangely enough the next band on were Hawklords (not the originals, but with a few ex-Hawkwind members) and they played the Space Ritual set.
Jesus and Mary Chain - Psycho Candy
With or without added sweeteners ?
Without
but I like the bitter sweet stuff too
@lala Glad you put Love and Rocket's Earth Sun Moon on your list. One of the best albums of the 80s in my opinion.
I forgot the violent femmes
Of course the big toppers like the beatles, beach boys, nirvanna etc etc have been great for me but also...
captain Beefheart - trout mask replica, safe as milk

Young Marble Giants are always on my mobile playlist. Here’s what they’re like now (well, last month):

Blimey! Look what I found while I was there:
Sweet! Eno rules. Never heard of the Winkies but I'm not an expert on him.
A Wizard A True Star -- Todd Rundgren
I mentioned it on page 1 of this thread, so I should really plonk this in here:
The Nice / Five Bridges, side 2 of 2

Hmmmm, so three years on and from this list I have only listened to Clutch and Miles Davis since then heh.
