Disappointed in Korg, they've made some of my favourite things but the lack of connectivity in this app is just ridiculous. Still, at least my pennies are safe unless they up their game on this one.
  • I'm still keeping my hope up for improved Gadgets and a better 'keyboard & kaospad' to input notes with velocity and pitch/mod-wheel. Korg already has good 'keyboards' in iMS-20, iPolySix, iM1 etc. but they are M.I.A. in Gadget and all lack 'vertical touch-velocity', it's all full on. Module has 'vertical velocity' but it's too small to play onscreen.

The 'pieces' are already there, it's just a matter of a product-developer at Korg to put all pieces together and deliver...

Here was the way I responded to some of your ideas.

  • Negative review posted on the App store. It's a dirty tactic admittedly but it's usually the best way to nudge unresponsive developers into taking action.
Negative review seems a little unfair to be honest. If it doesn't have the features you want surely the best approach is to not buy it rather than complain it doesn't have features it never claimed to have.

I'd already bought it by the time I realised it was missing IAA and AB. Maybe I'm naive but I just assumed that no-one, least of all KORG, would release a synth in late 2015 that didn't have the minimum of connectivity. I actually feel that the negative review is justified, because the app is pretty much useless if it can't connect to other apps in any way.

Useful for other potential buyers too. If a review contains important information it's not negative, just as a 5 star app review with no justification as to why they think it's so great are completely useless for informed purchasing.

  • Everything about this release is strange, seems rushed, but not rushed for the BF/CM sales frenzy, makes you feel like it's Beta testing time, so it's good for the Xmas sales frenzy.
  • As aside it's easy to check in advance by pressing the compatible apps button in the Audiobus app :)
  • A negative review is warranted and very helpful to others.  Those reviews are not placed there just for Korg's fans.  I love Korg's stuff and even have a couple of workstations made by them and a KP3 but this app sounds like it needs work for sure.
  • Very puzzling. Would like to hear the discussion around the boardroom table (or its product development equivalent).

No reasonable output is a piss-take and a poor decision on a number of levels.

Smells like a small and clumsy money grab and if I had bought it that would be my negative review. Grateful to the European brethren for taking one for the team on this one. Money remains in pocket.

I just looked at it and I agree, this looks to be a toy.

I'm really trying to decide if I want to spring for ims-20 on sale in the hopes that it's announced as a gadget in the future, but standalone I don't really need it. I do hope they integrate all of their apps into gadget, it seems to make sense but who knows.

Sounds like the iOS departments aren't communicating with each other either.

Yeah, I respectfully disagree.  I guess I see your point in that (presumably) the app description does not reference AB, IAA, or MIDI connectivity, so anyone who buys it shouldn't have the "expectation" that it does those things.

But this is 2015, and it's not like Korg is a low-budget newcomer to iOS music.  They've created some of the more revered iOS music apps on iPad, have a sizable lineup of universal and iPhone-only apps, and virtually all of them include AB, IAA, and MIDI functionality.  So I could easily see somebody clicking "Buy" with the expectation that a Korg app has these things, or SHOULD have these things.  Reminds me of the Roland Sound Canvas roll-out, where they had an intriguing app, but didn't seem to put any real though for some time into how people would actually _use_ it.

I'll keep it on my wishlist, but I can't buy an app that doesn't allow me to do anything with it other than play to myself with headphones or a speaker line-out.

It's not developed internally at Korg. But still, it is a bit of a rush job it seems. Not even running on an iPhone 5? C'mon Korg :/

Edit: Anyone tried this on an iPhone 5?
  • @ChrisG It's a clean 64-bit app so it doesn't run iPhone 5.

I do hope Korg will show some love for the iPad versions of iMS-20 and iElectribe and re-bake them into Gadgets.
A fun fact, the iDS-10 synth does PWM which the iMS-20 doesn't and has a better sequencer to boot, too bad the export options are limited (recording using Lightning->USB cable works fine though).
  • I see, thanks @Samu ;

Bah @ Korg! I'll just have to run it on the Air then. Never used iMS20 really, but mostly because I couldn't take the sequencer etc. This looks slightly more fun to use tho.
  • I never bought KORG Module for iPhone, as it looks too small on the iPhone, and I only use it in Gadget on my iPad. But, from th  description in the App Store, it looks like that one also doesn't have AB or IAA?

I can somewhat justify KORG releasing separate iPhone versions of their apps. KORG's gotta eat too. But not implementing standard features like AB or IAA is very difficult to justify, considering the full price of these apps. Hard to explain.
  • So...theres not even soundcloud export or acp?

this looks nice, as do all korgs apps, was about to buy but really, what is the point if i cannot share what i made or export loops to gadget and whatnot?

ill more than likely buy it later tonite just because it sounds amazing and i reckon korg will add export options asap..maybe they wanted to release it fast to get advance xmas sales and beat kirnu cream..
  • Wasn't Gadget released without Audiobus, only for a quick press release stating that it would be implemented shortly afterwards.

That is correct. But I'm seeing that the last three iPhone KORG apps don't have AB or IAA (iElectribe, Module, and now iDS-10). Hoping this isn't permanent. I like the look of this iDS-10, but it's just a toy without recording functionality included.

Well, if they add AB, I'll buy. Probably. But if they intend to but are just keeping it a secret more PR-fool them...

Agree, they shot themselves in the foot, they just can't work out which one hurts.

Doesn't iElectribe and Module for iPhone have AB and IAA ?
  • And what in hell could this be?
And then there’s the enigmatic mystery bingo; as you continue enjoying the KORG iDS-10, the full picture will become clearer …
  • I certainly believe iElectribe for iPhone as AB and IAA.

Maybe a mini-game, that gives prizes like AB or IAA, if it gets Ableton Link we could all play.

Detune Inc. please make this compatible w/ 32bit devices. Don't be lazy coz you spazzed out on all them crazy Japanese arcades I know u love to visit (and Korg putting a December deadline on ur heads)  o:)
  • iElectribe has IAA and AB.

As for the mystery bingo, their website lists Soundcloud examples, so it appears you unlock new sounds or new capabilities as you use it.
  • I did try to post here that I was mistaken about iElectribe (it is AB compatible), but for some reason my post is awaiting review. Sorry for any confusion.
