I still haven't deleted or refunded mine. It's too groovy to give up. If I deleted it now, I've already got a good $3 worth of fun out of it. Would be awesome I the dev unshackled this beast and let her really come out to play.
Regarding the privacy stuff, it's annoying for sure... but I read a long editorial about a year or so ago explaining just how many holes there are in the Internet fabric. That any attempt at security was really a joke because it's all built on top of old patched up code and that if a hacker wants your data, it's very easy no matter what you do.
I mostly try to stay vigilant about suspicious behavior, but that's also become so sophisticated that you can't tell the real criminals from the unscrupulous marketing scumbags. Often the lines are so blurred that you can't even discern the difference between these turd blossoms.
@usk
Any chance of getting the full list of CCs and midi controls?
it's possible but quite time consuming to work it out. Thanks
So suppose I wanted to get the audio out of my iPhone somehow to save it, all I have besides that is a laptop with Fl Studio on it, and I don't want to spend any money on equipment for one app, do I just pipe it in with a male to male headphone jack or what? I'm assuming that's not ideal but may suffice for my needs
Have you had much luck with this? I can automate a few sliders with midiLFOs before Frum crashes out on me after 10-15 seconds. Wasn't expecting it to work, but it's fun trying.
Yes definitely very buggy I'm discovering. I hope they fix it. Crashes and sometimes it just doesn't work. plus the randomize button doesn't like it very much if you are sending midi to it etc. Has a lot of potential though....
Back to the privacy policy.. if I remember correctly.. it said that they "store everything you TOUCH"" on ur device. I'm still hesitant.
If I was Mr. robot.. this would be a phenomenal way for me to hack you
Project "F -Society" is underway. Instead of the China dark army--- its the japanese dark army
Sorry.. I'm drinking Beer and am gonna jam out today. I better lay off the forums
PEACE!
Yes, I'm recording in Audacity with a 3.5mm male to male audio cable just fine.
Good to know....
Seems strange how this could get through the review process so easily if there was something amiss. I guess anyone with concerns should report a problem with the app through itunes and then Apple will look into it?
I haven't registered and using the app without doing so doesn't seem to cause any problems so far...
@not_elvis thanks! Audacity for the win
Very true - fundamental protocol architectures were never designed for security, or the internet really - just more or less a gov/academic consortia. But now it's mostly impossible to secure. Consumers are in a weird position now, because hackers are motivated by financial gain, so they are not targeting individuals - but the companies holding their info. Security too - is challenging beyond the tech limits, as its dependent on the 'chain' of entities moving the 1's and 0's around. There's no harmonization of law, or assignment of liability for security issues. Same goes for Standards - PCI/DSS has been about the best thing going - but its mostly a vast forest of disconnected systems, and security is only as good as the least secure element in the chain - securing airport luggage at terminals is a terrific example of how complex this can be.
I haven't looked at this app's privacy policy - but apps are Not allowed to collect usage, or user data without user-consent, as well as implementation of a privacy policy. Apps are also not allowed to require a login to function unless the login is required for the core functionality of the app - i.e. the app is tied to a specific social network. Otherwise, the app must allow usage without requiring a login.
Just to clarify, they would only be able to store everything you touched within the app. Apps can't monitor the keyboard (well except third party keyboards, and those you should look carefully at who's providing it) or what is tapped within other apps. Arguments about the fairness of Apple being the arbiter of what gets into their walled garden aside, the sandbox mentality of iOS does allow for tighter security. So the app can be thought of as a webpage, everything you do with it goes back to their server, but the webpage can't peak at what else you're doing. All apps are held to this standard, not just by policy, but by the technical implementation of iOS. Some apps, by design, primarily interact locally on the device, some mostly over the network. This is the only thing that varies.
Think of it another way. Anything truly nefarious, like a key logger (record everything typed back to some other server), would never declare itself so. So I'm not telling you to not worry about anything. Just not to worry about apps that declare themselves to be basically webapps. The stuff that you need to worry about is the stuff that gets in through some crack in the wall, doing it's dirty deeds in the shadows. Now where did I put my tinfoil...
Audio can be recorded digitally from the iPhone using the lightning cable it came with to a computer. I know this works (video screen capture too) with a Mac, not 100% sure with Windows, but I think so there as well (might need some extra software, but probably something free)
Ty, don't worry ..I buy tinfoil wholesale.. ur welcome to a BOX
.. yes I HOPE we're all wrong with our assumptions. I actually think it's genius for an app to keep their sound libriaries in a cloud service, that way we have more room on our iOS devices. Hopefully this will be the future of all apps (once completely secure) the app was only 2.5 mb! I was so happy to see that. This could be a huge step in iOS app developments. I hope it all gets straightened out.
Imagine downloading apps , where the core functionality will be only the software.. and all the bloat (sounds, libraries) will be on their cloud server.. and we can access them when we need to. It's actually very intelligent on their part , if they went about it the right way. Time will tell
@johnn yeah that's great and all until you find yourself wanting to make music without an Internet connection or years go by and your device still works but oh no, the company went out of business or whatever and no more cloud server and now you can no longer use the app.
True, but for $3? Hopefully I will have the project finished , mixed n mastered by that time. Anything more than $3 .. yes I would expect to have the libraries
some of the coolest ios sounds are coming out of this app rather easily. i might buy a hardware version of this, should one come into existence.
There is that!
It's quite cool that you can load a song from another "member" and work on it. If you share the result again, it gets linked to the original one (don't know if I made myself clear). It's a kind of remix.
So Apple issued me a refund even though I didn't ask for one in reporting my issues. Well the refund will pay for my 3 Yonac apps I picked up in today's great sale.
NOW with audio record and open in 'AudioShare'. Works great but seems to have lost the mute buttons and no update required for this.
Wait. Update allows open in audioshare???
No update. Open Frum and check audio record in settings !!
You mean I could've just clicked my heels and gone home at any time, scarecrow?
Interesting, I've never seen this before on the ipad, It seems both an advantage and disadvantage of web apps is that they can be updated without you updating. Does Apple allow this, since they can't then check what goes in an update?
Sorry, I'm out...
An app that updates without your consent (or Apples), collecting data from your iPad.
What could possibly go wrong?
It is a little disconcerting, but more that a feature you liked suddenly disappears or is moved, or is broken when it wasn't before. I do like to be in control of when something is updated.
