    Haste ma n Kaugummi?

  • I think the app is developed with Juce - which as far as I know, isn't compatible with IAA or Audiobus. Maybe some dev can confirm?

we are all looking for deeper touch expression.
    MPE definitely is the ticket.
And it's affordable this time. ;)

Gee, what a bad PR event for such a nice thing.

Copied this just for the Rocky Horror Show :D

The Noise app is made with Juce, which has proven difficult to combine with Audiobus. The SDK is framework agnostic however.

Let's get some impressions of how expressive MPE is.
    Start 0.36

    oh là là
    Want.
(This seams to be a layer of two sounds)
    Holy shit. <3

Having a closer look at the keyboard I get now that pitch like that is guaranteed
and the obvious thing to do
I can be so stubborn sometimes,
WTF do I need this for.

Thanks to "mr rubber finger" for the great demo. :)

  • I saw a link to an SDK for the Lightpad Block, but now I can't seem to find it easily - can someone send me the link? Thanks - [email protected]

  • I think this will be significant .

This is the cheap ticket to MPE (Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression) and its wireless.
The other mpe controllers cost an arm and a leg.

Surely MPE would be better implemented as a 'no contact' paradigm, for example, wearing gloves that have all the axes tracked and with a 9DOF IMU for each hand. Or alternatively a motion capture vision tracking system that 'looks' at your hands and fingers and joints and overall orientation and movements, and makes data happen from that. Then we're verging on the verge of dance interpretation.

No, actually playing on a surface that has some give in it makes a big difference in terms of expression, consistency, and playing comfort. "Air" playing can get pretty fatiguing too...

You really need pressure and something to press again
    Forget videotracking
    And gloves that's so 80s

    Me too.
Gee, I thought I'd never have anything to do with MPE because the controllers were so expensive.

  • I'm impressed with what they've exposed here, developers can pretty much do whatever we want with them, if the default modes aren't enough. And to answer obi's concern, it does appear that they show up as USB midi devices so BTLE is not required. Looking forward to trying it out!

Fair enough, but don't think 'air guitar', think more in terms of dance and what our physical movements might 'mean' when we move our limbs about in response to music and rhythm. Everything has a meaning.

  • If you've seen the Roli "Noise" app reviews on the Apple Store site.. People are pissed at them. It seems they've been left in the lurch. The seaboard was never really perfected.. People payed for sounds that were disposed of.. Not pretty ..Maybe growing pains? I hope they do better this time around. Their image seems a bit tarnished . Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hm, that's the thing too. Music makes me want to move. Not the other way around.
I never wake up and think I feel like dancing.

They fucked this up. Instead of coming up with a new "blocks app" they took the noise app and removed the keyboard and replaced it with a grid, ppl woke up and the keyboard app was gone. No wonder people are pissed.
    They should have known better.
The PR event for blocks was mediocre too, they managed to make it look like just another little box with lights, and the music was bad, lol

Maybe, but that was handled really badly. What's even more inexcusable is the copyright grab in the new terms, I mean WTF, are they completely clueless?

    Yes, it's bizarre.
I wonder what lawyer ape bit them with this one.

  • One of the reviewers on the App Store says he using this as a case in point in a UX design book he's working on lol.

  • Think I will wait a year on this one.

  • edited November 2016

Thing with the app is they didn't only piss of their users who bought the 2€ app.
They also pissed of their users who bought their big and expensive mpe controllers.
How on earth can you missmanage all your clients like that.
    Oops
Let's hope they will learn from that.

    5d touch: Strike(velocity), Press(aftertouch), Glide(pitchglide/vibrato), Slide(whatever), and Lift(release velocity).

Lift is kind of geeky clever,
Wouldn't have thought of that. :)
LOL, the demos i like are all from the same guy
    It's always the same hands.
Slide is a very musical guesture perfect for hold chords
Unsure if glide is what I want musically, but it's there.

  • btw. What are the dimensions of the thing?

    94mm x 94mm

  • I try not to dwell on unpleasantness, but I return to just being so pissed off every time I think of their stunt.
